As a former FedEx driver, I had the pleasure of delivering to Steve's shop before he moved to his current location. Steve if you read this, it was the shop behind the McDonald's. Steve is a wonderful guy and would take a few seconds to talk shop with me and made me a supporter for life.
@@Christopher_R Too many people in business seem to think you have to win every deal, crush your competition and treat it as a blood sport. They tend to go out of business. I'd much rather do business with someone like Steve because he's so passionate about it, loves it and helps people out. I'd much rather give people like that my business because that builds good, long-lasting business relationships.
@@brolohalflemming7042 100%. I wish more people would stop confusing small business owners (Technically defined below 500 employees, but I'm talking below 50.) with "big evil" corporations etc. So tired of the anti-capitalist crowd thinking I pay myself $500K per year and give all my guys min. wage. It's more like the opposite. When I was starting off for the first 5-7 years, my guys made a MUCH better living than me and had to deal with 10% of the stress and half the hours. Never mind the fact the education they got. My guy who started off sweeping floors is now working at Moroso as a fabricator. He didn't pay a dime for that education from my "evil" self. lol
I have to admit I'm a bit surprised. I expected to hear how you built this slowly over the course of 32 years. The fact that you are where you are in just about the last 12-15 years after all the adversity you faced is nothing short of amazing. Good on you for sticking with it and MAJOR props to your wife for supporting through the entire journey. Great story and thanks for sharing it.
I was surprised too. Gave up half a shop and his own tools halfway through. Now he's making his own billet blocks. And some of the best racing engines of any make. Freaking crazy.
Over 400K Steve!! So happy for you!! Lets go!!! Edit: Editing my comment cause I initially as soon as I clicked on the video and saw the subs. Just wanted to say thanks for this video. Love having more of the back story of Steve and how this whole thing came to be. I love how humble you are Steve. Hats off to you for being so persistent and sticking it out!
These are the stories people need to hear. You will have failures in life, but if you keep pushing you will reach your goals. It takes sacrifice, but things don't happen over night. You have to weather the storms and put yourself out there and take chances. Props to Steve. Plus I love a good Michigan success story!
This is quickly becoming one of the best channels on YT! The love and dedication Steve shows for engines and the automotive world in general. Such a wealth of knowledge and we are very grateful for him passing his experience on to others 💪🏼🤘🏼🏁💯🇺🇸
But just let everybody understand this… It took him 32 years to get here but now he’s here and there’s only up from here! 🔥Hell yeah Brother!!!!! you made it
Brother from another mother. I watch your channel from Queensland Australia. It’s so nice to watch and learn from a man that has followed his dreams and made an honest and highly respected business from it.May God bless you and your family with all the happiness, good health and love that you deserve. Such a humble man. I loved the way you acknowledged your wife.
I agree, but push up David Visard also. He needs more subscribers too. He's one of the smartest automotive engineers to ever exist. He's videos are more on cams, heads, flow compression and oil flow, fuel flow etc. I don't think boost isn't his expertise but I know he knows everything about it. I'd love to see Steve and David meet up like David and Tony do.
“Back in the old school days” I graduated HS in 2015. My five favorite classes were auto, machine shop, wood shop, English and science. We had lathes in in metal shop, all the tools you need in wood shop. Auto was the BEST. Shout out to Mr. Brannock, he really is one of the greatest humans ever. Older gentleman, hands STILL registered as certified weapons. If he caught us with dip he made us swallow it instead of writing you up😂 I will forever owe a part of me to that man
In 2005-2006 my Highschool auto shop was my refuge. Instructor taught us about the real world and useful life long skills. It wasn't just automotive, he got into plumbing, HVAC and machining. 17 years later I'm still a machinist and love every day of it
Congrats on giving a smoking deal to Garrett. I've been here since seeing you with Tom a few years ago. It's nice to see you finally getting the attention you earned a while back.
Major Respect from Japan. The only American Performance shop on mainland Japan. Nothing great happens overnight. You stuck with it and have ben rewarded. Much respect and something I can FULLY relate to.
It's awesome to see such a humble guy from where I grew up in Michigan living the dream with a family business. I've been following you for quite a while and it's awesome to see how you've grown. Thanks Steve, Kyle and everyone else
Well heck... he got to 400k. This channel is going to blow up. Really cool information from a chill guy... that and his Greta dyno sticker is perfecto.
Golly, what an incredible story! Being self employed, a few key takeaways - no partnership (I couldn't do it either) and don't build it first without the work to pay for it. Kudos to you Steve
Steve, you are proof that a house built on a rock foundation will withstand storms, while a house built on sand will fall. (Matthew 7:24-27) God has blessed you. Congratulations my brother in Christ 🙏💪
Hey Steve, fellow Hastings guy here. I remember you, never really got to know you, I'm a bit older. I also worked at Thomet Chevrolet and remember you from frequenting Showboat. My cousin worked at Showboat also.
Im glad Cleetus had us come over I loved this video it is such a wonderful story and I always thought you were a wholesome guy and this video just proves it more! best of luck Steve
You have alot to be proud of and grateful for Steve Morris.. It has been my honor to witness such a loving recollection of your past history by father and son! All mushiness aside, when you two caught one another grinning at the phrase "Sugar Momma", I imagine anyone watching this was smiling right along with you! CLASSIC!! Thanks for letting all of us into your world and such a great video!!
Father and Son are just like a partnership. That is why working together is hard sometimes. You both did a great job. I see you went way up with your subscribers.
To be fair, I would not call that a partnership. It's more like an apprenticeship for Kyle. When you have a partner, you are equal in terms of making decision, but I'm quite sure that Steve's calling the shots and Kyle is doing his absolute best to learn everything he can. This is a family business, but I think Steve's the big boss man😀
Kyle is very fortunate to have such amazing parents and I am sure that Kyle has learned a lot from both of them. I am sure that Kyle understands the relationship is far more than a partnership.
I hope you come to America one day when 45 is rightfully re installed and freedom returns to we the people from every country on earth. If I make it there , I’ll be coming to meet you. I am an Aussie patriot that loves freedom and good old fashioned values. See you in the future.
Thanks for sharing I really enjoyed this video. My first job in a repair garage out of high school was for a Christian owner. He lived by Proverbs 22:1. Being a successful business owner and honest Christian isn’t easy. That was something about you Steve that stood out to me. You’re a good man who stands behind his work, but you also understand the value of your God given talents.
I’m glad to find out the story I’m a engine builder myself trying to figure out how to tune. It’s never to late in life to follow your dream it took me a long time to figure it out but better late than never
FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND. CONGRATS STEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I started a painting company in the Bay Area with a 6 ft. stepladder. I worked alone. No partner, no employee(s)=no headaches. My income was based solely on my performance. I remember once I was feeling bad about working alone and letting anyone else work. I talked to an old retired painter, and he told me “having other people helping you is not necessary, a journeyman can do an entire house alone, you won’t have unknown thefts on your jobs, drinking and drugs, no one asking for advances to do drugs and all types of confusion. Work alone”. I didn’t feel bad no more. That was my hustle, my livelihood. Get your own.
I’m a firm believer that you have to fail in order to succeed. Congratulations on hitting 402k but we all know that you will grow even larger soon. I commented on a video on January 18 that I couldn’t believe that you only had 182k subscribers. After watching this video I want to say you are a great person and a great role model to your son. Thank you for letting us in and treating us as family.
As a business founder and owner, I have to say that I don't understand that idea at all. Yes, you need to be able to pick yourself up IF you fail, but you don't need to fail to have success. I did not fail and the business I started with two others in 2003, now employs over 3000 people world wide, and is a publicly traded company since 2021. Many who fail can't get up, and the sad part is that sometimes they fail for reasons out of their own control. So it is absolutely not a must to fail and you need to avoid it, because it won't always make you better or able to succeed, far from it in fact.
WoW, thanks for sharing your story,so many people assume that anyone successful had to have it handed to them. I really appreciate how much credit you give your wife. A marriage is the one partnership you stayed in for 25 years. I think it is great that Kyle is following your footsteps and keeping the Morris name alive for years to come in the racing industry
Amazing! I had no idea about the motorcycle crash and all the trials and tribulations you went through! You definitely deserve all you have today. Such a good example of staying positive, Steve Morris is the guy you want to use as an example for your children, and the kind of guy everyone wants to hang out with. We are fortunate to have this channel. Edit: 400k!! Woohoo!!!
This brought back so many memories of my early years, Steve. George Delorean. wowser. What a unique and cool guy. I am going to admit, I used to do a LOT of Street racing. I remember all the famous cars. The silver Bullet, the silver Mustang 2 Roush built with the 505 wedge, for Ruggirello, among others. We used to trailer our stuff up to 12 mile, and met at the old Clock restaurant, at 12 and Orchard Lake Road, and then race on the not yet complete part of I-696. We called it the Top End Club. I couldn't afford a decent trailer, just a tow bar back then, and George had a shop called Leader Automotive. He built my exhaust for my 502 big block Chevy in my 67 Camaro, which consisted of a right off the header collector 3 and 4 inch pipe, 4 Corvair Turbo mufflers ( 2 per side) , and dumping out just in front of the rear axle. The system was expensive, and was fabricated to fit each car and engine setup, and was expensive ( about 600.00 in 1977 dollars!) All the guys had this exhaust. Was not much power loss, because the engine tune didn't have to change. Last year, George passed. I ended up in the Clinical Engineering field, after my wife passed away, and I ended up a single parent. I truly enjoy all of your videos, but this one was the most honest and special yet.
Amen. Keep the faith. Don’t see many Christian people in your type rolls. God has definitely blessed you in your business. Always enjoy watching your videos. Can tell when someone is a Christian!
Steve, we are alot alike. Went into a partnership with a guy in 2008, worst mistake of my life. I walked away from everything in early 2010 flat broke. Rented one bay out of shop and started a new auto repair business. Found a niche market in Diesel repair and run a successful business since then. Took me surrounding myself with the right people. Love hearing these type stories. I think the struggle makes you a better person with a better business mindset because you know what not to do. Good job.
I enjoyed your story, Steve. For some reason, I had imagined that you had probably gotten an engineering degree and built your business without too much financial worry. Man was I wrong. You are definitely the epitome of determination. I’ve always admired your Christian witness. God had plans to prosper you, and it’s really cool to see how things have worked out for you and your family. Proud for you, Steve. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the inspiration. God bless you brother.
Thanks for sharing this information and congrats on 400k subscribers let’s get this channel to 1 million subscribers as its one of the best channels on RU-vid.
As a C4,5 and 6 breaker, I identify highly with you all. I also was young and in good shape like Kyle, and healed without surgery. But you are a VERY lucky man to still be walking. Your story is one of extreme perseverance and fortitude and I commend you and your family, and wish you all the best. P.S. I was at Great Lakes and witnessed the epic thrash you went thru, and asked how you still smiled all the time. Now I know... 👍👍👍
So cute that Steve is blushing at the start of this .....much respect sir....this could not have been easy....you have changed engine building forever...💪😎🍺🇳🇿
Partnership issues: There are partner pirates that let you spill your dream, then they take over and run you off. Many times they will stick you with a debt too much to pay off in 45 years. In other words they either want to steal your ideas or they want you to be a slave to them. Engineers: There are born engineers that only need a little mentoring and there are educated engineers that want the title. Problem is finding the born engineers in a world of mega-ego and toxic ego. It took me a few tries to find ways to identify the born engineers. In this case, college education isn't needed, as a college educated person has to get past the toxic ego before they are productive, but the high school grad can be productive much faster. Running a business is tough, but making it big has more to it than just luck. God has a blessing for those that keep looking to Him for answers.
Thanks Steve, Your A Bad Bad Man when it comes to HP. You created a legacy for your son/family & a way for your generations to come to excell and support themselves for another 100 Years. That's sweet, That's what a real man does for his family. 👍🏻
"Sugar Momma will definitely help!" Cracked me up. Loved this entire story. Thanks for this and...for giving "Mamma" credit. And the final reference to the Golden Rule tops it all off.
Steve has built one hell of a engine program and should be very proud, but you can see he’s done even better at raising Kyle. These guys are genuinely good guys and it’s painfully obvious. Big Fan from Indiana
That’s awesome, I draw a lot of parallels between your and kyles relationship and my own with my father, as a 22 year old myself and my dad being the one who started the family business. I think often times I want progress to happen instantly but your story is just another reminder that progress takes time mixed with persistence. Thanks for sharing Steve
I know Mrs. Morris is Camera shy but I’d like to hear her take on supporting Steve like that. To have him just say F-it to business and say you keep it all and then start from scratch all over again. That’s one hell of a support network!!
Man, I’m getting chills, remembering this inside drag racing stuff and what have you.. I’m so glad you included these clips!!!! Friggin cool as heck!!!!
Been in a motorcycle accident myself but was way worse than Steve and Kyle’s accidents. And you guys gave some great words of wisdom and advice to everyone. Thanks
GUYS!!! WE DID IT!!! Over 400k Steve Morris and Cleetus McFarland is like bread and butter….. macaroni and cheese…. Peanut butter and jelly, cheese and wine
Two miracle's walking around building engine's. Very blessed to be alive. Love the show. And yaw seem to be able to get along good for a father son team.
Congrats on cracking 400k man, you deserve it. Love seeing everything you are about, you remind me of a family member that used to race at 131. He had a spooky fast car.
You were always on a mission to be the best at building engines. I think you've proved that point, Congrats!! I can tell that Kyle will keep the SM brand moving forward.
Congrats on hitting 400k subs and for being honest about life. So often today we don’t get to hear about people’s life stories the good, bad, ugly and successes. It’s refreshing to watch someone to be honest and open about their life. Hopefully your story inspires more people to keep on chasing their dreams. Keep up the good work and we all are looking forward to more great content.
Man love your channel you deserve this. The way we get to see you work with people amazing. WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU WORK WITH OLD MANS GARAGE AND HIS SON.
Steve very cool indeed. It was great that you would shared all of the true trials and tribulations of business. And even the humility of saying how important your wife was to your success. Then by expressing the reality and the sacrifices that we as independent owners suffer through to hopefully one day be a success story. What also is amazing to me is how you and your son both nearly died from the same type of accident and both are here to tell us about it. What a testimonial. Great statement, Treat others the way you expect to be treated and if you do you may survive anything in life!
DOG GONE! I CANNOT BELIEVE IT Steve! I watched that show where they interviewed you! I had forgotten all about it! I remember thinking you were so cool... but kinda "stuck up"! Butt, you were so good... you could afford to be, cause you were that good!!! Thanx for jogging my memory... & being you! J
What a cool video! From learning how you got started and the truck ya'll did for your uncle. The video on Inside Drag Racing (which brings back SOOOO many memories btw) to how you and Bailey got together, to today... And being interviewed by your son... Pretty dam cool! Thanks again!
That was legit. Thank you for sharing your amazing story. It explains a lot i’ve been a fan of you and Tom since Drag week and you and the wagon and your channel since sick week love y’all
Awesome brother let's go.nice to see good people like your self and Garrett/ Clatus make a good deal and helping each other out. Look forward for more to come from the both of you. Possibly doing some things for fun together. Keep it up it💯
Gosh dang, I've been following you for a few years. I remember when you had less than 50k subs. The growth that Cleetus has brought is so great! Also, glad to see you guys rep'ing Centroid. I'm a dealer for them, not the 5 axis machines, but everything else. God bless you guys!
Amazing man and son Ive been through all your injuries and sadly health on top of it all for me legally blind for 6 years you name it this really hit me in the gut I wish you nothing but the best I've watched you and Cleetus since you began watched Cleetus tear up Ls engines left and right and actually yelled and begged him to get in contact with you maybe just coincidence but things are looking up for both of you I'm 49 going on 50 My goal in life is to own a 11 second street car I can drive anywhere small potato's I know but when your on disability your living on beans but with some luck and Help from above I will get there. I am lucky like you I have a very caring and loving wife and grown kids so just maybe one day I can figure out how to do something at my pace and get me a car and build an engine to work with. Seriously though why I can come across to personal at times when you guys don't know me from an ant hill but when you have lived as much as I have through trials life etc you learn what to sweat and not to sweat and you learn we all aren't that different after all. Kindness and love goes a long way in this world and never hurts to believe in a greater being upstairs either. I really hope one day I can achieve my goal and meet you and Cleetus sometime really admire you Steve and who you are my wreck was on a 3 wheeler at a younger age but like you there's got to be a reason I'm still around. You and Kyle please be safe count your blessings and most of all keep doing what you are gives beat up guys like myself something to smile and entertain us with. Nothing but the best for you and your family. God Bless
Great to hear you’re doing well man. I hope SM sees this so you can meet him at an event to discuss your new street car build plans. Keep on keeping on, people like you and Steve inspire everyone else!
