Don't be offended by stupid comments carl450r. This shows over and over again how many ignorant people are out here running their mouths about NOTHING that they understand. Great clip.
Cool video Carl, too bad it doesn't have a spitting wedge welded on it too so as you're running the log through cutting it could split it too, nice job.
Jeesh, pple love to knit pick... it's a logging machine he's using to cut firewood, not spec. built for it but it works.... that machine is the one used for loading the trucks that go to the mills and stuff, set the length and run it, LOL... I like it.
Excellent job, good operating! Burned very little diesel to get a cord of wood compared to the back busting chainsaw that requires gas and oil. You can load my trailer any day. Great job and loved the video!
Yes, there's more efficient ways of logging it up, but I very much doubt he bought that harvester just to process a few tops. Might as well make use of it while you're there cutting down on waste too, nice work mate.
Ignore all of the hate comments this is your way of doing it and I would do it this way if I could so fast and you get payed well I bet its alot better then waiting all day to get yohr trailer filled with a chainsaw
Never mind the bad comments.. It is good to see that not all the smaller logs are being sent out for chipping. Just got to be split up and stacked that's it! save a lot of time!=)
Nice skill there man , I've seen some of other clips with the same type of machine, pls tell me , why do you make the first cut so small, is it like a reset cut or what ? I must say I've never seen a machine like this , I'm unfamiliar with them .
there's no profit in doing firewood this way unless the wood is free and the processor belongs to someone else and they buy the fuel and pay for break downs
+dave12546 Seriously. do the math people. upwards of 400 grand for that machine with powerhead. home many cords do you gotta do to cover all that overhead? plus fuel, plus operator expense, plus breakdowns, plus wear&tear, and transportation to the site and back. complete waste of time, money, fuel, and more importantly the time lost the machine was not clearing the forrest.
Do you guys not understand he works for a logging company hauling 8 foot to a mill, and that he is just cutting some wood for himself on the side? You don't buy a processor to cut firewood, its just an advantage of being an operator. I know many operators that do this.
+C Genious this video is terrible. How about showing the machine foresting, loading huge trucks with logs, crawling around the woods, stacking up huge loads of log length, de-limbing if he works for a logging company? instead we get this little cheese whiz of a video from a guy that got to use daddy's machine on a sunday. do you guys not understand the quantity he threw to the side as "waste" could heat a home for a month in northern michigan with that. the front half of the trailer is loaded all neat and proper and the back half is a sloppy mess. plus all of it still needs to be handled again for splitting. plus handled again for stacking. No thanks, i'll stick to cutting, splitting, and piling in a bang bang bang, quick process. with my chainsaw and splitter-conveyor.
Im going to guess , cutting some firewood after your shift with a Logmax .....5000? , from the heads/trash pile?. Probably used 50 cents worth of fuel. I wouldn't fill my Stihl for that. Looks like you got the measuring working nice ( for a change right?). Nice work anyway, it's what ya do.
Cool video of incredible machine... even scary looking ... just make sure you Plant More Trees after you cut them all down... so the humans and animals still have oxygen to breath.
That tool he's using is called a feller buncher. It's used for logging; it cuts the tree, rips off the branches, and stacks the logs in piles. Using it to cut firewood is a bit more than a bit excessive. Works though...
How about processing and manufacturing in the forest? I have such a machine that was custom designed to have an atv or utv or small tractor pull it. Leaving the mess in the woods is the way.
i like this machine i once processed 60 cords my old man dropped off with his dump truck, i wish i had one lol where i sell wood is like selling water in the desert unlike others i see very little waste cus someone will come buy and get the leftovers lol and yes it is a feller buncher, and to all of those who see waste all of that wood is by product, and i would like to see anyone try and out pase this machine
making firewood is not my job harvesting log is my job and confirm that is a 600 000 machine 400 for the track harvester this is a eltec h226 2012 and a logmax 7000 at 200 and this machine earn between 10 and 20 thousand a week so it's worth the price :P we don't do firewood for living just for ourself we sometimes sell it by a truck load:35 ton aprx 40 cords for 1400
With equipment like this around takes probably hour and a half with a chainsaw and cuts are all different. 10 minutes max with a processor and there all same length
I wonder how many chords until it pays for itself? Including operating costs? I bet you the 10,000th chord is the break even point. But with a setup like that you could cut that in less than a year.
pretty dam cool but its not that efficient as a processor i'd say, you can just hear how much fuel that thing is burning, cant forget the routine maintenance on that thing.
What do you mean rough???? You do realize this is forestry equipment that processor get double to triple that abuse if it is felling and processing in the block. That's easy work for them. They are built to take a lot of abuse
alot of wasted movements. you should have a conveyor belt loading the trailer with the feed right next to the pile of wood. also makes cutting the wood faster. then someone can be stacking the trailer at the same time without worrying about hitting them. you should also lay a large tarp underneath the conveyor to catch the sawdust and sell it too.
+tom steve its not about saving seconds , you will save hours. Also the more you move anything, the more it will break. conveyors are a lot cheaper to fix than the hydraulics.
IF it was a production firewood job, but I highly doubt that is the case here.theres no way all them logs cut into firewood could bring the price they would as they are. justa guy cutting some firewood and not in a production setting. so it would just save seconds. I will stick to my opinion of not cost effective to save seconds.
maybe, just maybe his production is making the big piles of logs in the backthat get sent to different mills and not firewood production? idk, I could be wrong. its beena few years since ive worked logging and maybe now they chop it all up into firewood.
