@@GoldBallHunting they're entertaining, inspiring, and motivating! I've watched Tammen and Saiki for three years at the national indoors in Boise and these two gentlemen are the perfect example of how to play the way you and Jeff describe in Gold Ball Hunting - simple technique, consistent, and they always seem to be where the ball is going. Thanks for posting. Inspires me to increase my consistency. I feel that I can reach this level, even so late to the tennis game. Now I just need to know more about how to get myself into tournaments so I can get a true baseline to build my goals on. Gold Ball Hunting, baby!
Atta girl! When you're ready, schedule a comp private coaching call with me and Jeff and let's give you a plan to get to where you want to take your game. Brent calendly.com/goldballhunting/10min/
So much to learn from this age-specific tennis. Your wonderful conversation and any actual play should be in balance, of course, but yes I'd love to see more of these edited recordings. One thing I would say, just from having been a cub reporter before newspapers died, you could identify the players by physical characteristic (the tall one, the one in red) before the play started just for the benefit of us novices who don't know anything.
Some physical description (a single detail!) just so the complete innocent has a feel for who is who. There won't be running commentary as in a conventional sportscast, so just a little bit of extra imagination may be a good idea at the very beginning. Think of how Brent introduces Jeff every day. Same thing. Just for the benefit of a complete newcomer you wouldn't want to work too hard.
Hey Ricky. Assuming you saw the end of episode #343 with a short clip of Mark hitting. Yes, the next match I'm posting will be a doubles match featuring Mark and his partner Wesley Cash. Brent
Hey guys, great stuff - I can't believe how well Maurice, in particular, moves! A lot of the shot selection is top-draw too - forehand slices up the line, lobs over the backhand side, short backhand slice off the same look as the deep slice backhand (something I know you've mentioned before) - very impressive, thanks for sharing.
Loved watching this match. When I looked at stats showed neither Maurice or Mike never went middle on add side with 2nd serve I know Bret has said he goes into body a majority of time but I was surprise on grass they never went middle. That would be taking angles away be was also going to forehand. They did not seem shy about going to forehand with 2nd serve on the deuce side. Not sure what that means if anything. Randy
Mornin Randy. Looking forward to seeing you here in the desert next month. The no middle placement for their 2nd serves on grass with these two guys is probably b/c the server felt it might be too much of an opp for the returner to play a chip and charge and challenge from the net ... Brent
Thanks for the match, enjoyed it. Funny thing is the winner Maurice lost 6-0, 6-0 to Mike on March 30, 2019 and this match was just a month later. Mike actually looks more technically sound in my opinion. Great video.
Hi Omar. As they say in the NFL --- 'on any given Sunday' ... The margins at this skill level are razor thin, and just b/c you get a lopsided result one day doesn't mean it'll happen the next. Brent
The land of drop shots and drop volleys !!! Very interesting. But this is very specialized grass court tennis. I've played on grass twice in my life and it has led me to the conclusion that tennis was not invented on the lawns of England but in a warehouse in paramus NJ. The guys lined up some boxes/crates to act as the net, had a nice solid concrete floor and good lights and started our wonderful game ! Grass ? England ? nah.....
Morning Mark. Clay court tennis is the same. Lots of droppers and volleys when you stretch an opponent out wide. Oh ... and the same for hardcourts too ;-)
