Great job on your video. Great production value. Clear and concise. Keep up the great work. Also that engine looks like whoever owned it did outstanding maintenance on it. When I first saw how black the oil was coming out of it I got a little scared. But inside it looks like damn near new. All the parts look great should be an easy rebuild. Can’t wait to see the end result

Very instructive video! Currently "hunting" for a 351W roller at local junk yards myself to replace the 351 .040 overbore that came with my '86 Bronco...Thanks for posting!

When removing a stuck fastener, you can keep the entire engine stand from running away from you by standing on it as you apply the leverage. Should a cylinder head really give you a struggle, spin the block so the deck is parallel to the ground--when it's at an angle, it's easier for the head to want to slide off and meet your feet. If its an aluminum head, consider taking out the rocker arms so all valves are closed, getting a cylinder to TDC and use a leakdown test fitting to pump the cylinder full of air. great video!

These are good, strong engines that respond well to heads, cam, and intake swaps.

I rebuilt my 351w four years ago, put GT40 heads back on flat tappet motor with a comp cam for towing with headers . It was bored .40 over.Put a 3.90 gear in her . She had a lot more towing capabilities after the makeover. These engines are so easy to work on. I'd love to do another. That motor looked way better than mine which had a 107,000 miles but she still ran ok. Good luck with your makeover.

SO glad to see this video!. A friend of mine asked me to rebuild his 351w, and honestly I have NEVER touched a Ford engine. HOWEVER!, I've built a few Sbc 350s, and this looks like an almost Identical process, with nearly identical architecture. Thanks for sharing this.

Awesome video. I’m hoping to also upgrade my 302 to a 351 Windsor. FYI: 250,000 Kim’s equal about 155,340 miles.

I know it's an old video, but, what's with the allthread with a nut in some spots instead of a regular headed bolt? I first noticed them in my bronco's Windsor. Always wondered.

The only reason to use a 302 is a 351w won't fit!! Nearly an inch more connecting rod that has 3/8" rod bolts! The rod stroke ratio is better! The block is stronger! By the time you buy a set of aluminum heads it's a no brainer! Don't listen to those guys that'll tell you to stroke a 302!! Been there, done all of it! You're on a budget, spend the money on a set of heads! Get a set of cheap pistons with big valves reliefs!! Cam, heads and pistons! You can shoot 150 on them, just back the timing up 3-4 degrees and go for it on 93 octane pump gas!! Did it for 5 years 3-4 nights a week! Same engine! And yes, started out with a 5 liter! The grin on ur face is priceless! We leave all that stroker (and we did that too) to the guys that think they're fooling people! " It's a 306!" Yea! Buy a good set of heads, a cam and intake!
@paullowery4593
@paullowery4593 Год назад
I only want 200 for it because when I bought it the intake was busted on the bottom of the plenum so no intake and the valves are stuck in the head
@markmccarty9793
@markmccarty9793 Год назад
@@paullowery4593 that's a good price, but I got two. A standard flat tappet and a 95 roller. I'm 62, already retired, bad back! Got one build left. Probably sell the rest of that stuff! Or give it to a friend! The Fairmont wagon talks to me! All the potential for so little money!

Hey. I’ve recently got a 351w. I have no clue about engines. But I want to get some decent power out of it. What parts would you recommend I change out if I’m on a budget? Thanks
@markmccarty9793
@markmccarty9793 Год назад
@@shubyz good set of heads, intake and cam! If you got the money buy the rpm package and go with it. 412hp if memory serves me. Rings, bearings,gaskets. The heads are the big thing. Check ur valve to piston.

A 351 w with big money thrown at it made 748 horsepower. I don't remember the torque. All motor.

Does a efi intake on a 302 fit on a 351w
@huculak302
@huculak302 Год назад
No, the 351 has a taller deck height so it makes the intake wider than the 302

You have to get GT40 heads! please dont waste time and money machinging those E7 heads. get a set on ebay fresh off a motor 200-300 bucks and spend your machining money on those heads. I left my E7 heads in an abandoned chicken barn where they belong!
@huculak302
@huculak302 Год назад
Around hear GT40 heads are worth there weight in gold, I’ve had a few things change over time thinking about it and I’m prolly going to buy aluminum heads, they’re lighter, flow better and aren’t that much more than GT40s for what I can find. Most people selling them local to me want 600 dollars and they still need to be redone!

A 351 is not a small block it is the smallest big block ford made in the day
@huculak302
@huculak302 Год назад
The 351 Windsor, which is what I have, is a small block. The 302 and 351 Windsor are the exact same block for the most part other than taller deck height for more stroke, bigger main journals and a few other things. But ford also made the 351 modified and 351 Cleveland which is kinda up for debate if they are small or big block for some people, I’ve personally had a 351 modified and I will say it was much larger than a 351 Windsor
@paullowery4593
@paullowery4593 Год назад
@@huculak302 I'm 52 I grew up on the 302 351 Windsor and Cleveland I was brought up on the concept that the 351 Cleveland was a big block on the basis that it was eventually turned into the 351 modified then the 400 but when they went to the 351 modified they also changed the bellowing bolt pattern to what is considered the big block
@huculak302
@huculak302 Год назад
@@paullowery4593 yes the Cleveland and modified are very closely related, they are both what I would consider a big block,from what I understand the 351 and 400 modified use the same block with a few little changes because of the displacement difference and the 400 is a big block so I’d say so is the 351 modified,but the 351 Windsor is a small block platform based on the same block as the 302
