@@francovlla I am on a medical school and I can confirm it's putting me under pressure and I sleep less for studying but I have some free time tho but damn her shifts is not comparable to a medical school, she's on some next level bro
Your vlogs really make me so happy that I wasn't an intern/resident in America! I always thought TV was an over-exaggeration, but it isn't!! Well done on you for remaining so positive, bubbly, energetic and wonderful through it all!
Yessss!!!!! Pre dent here!🙋. Thank you soo soo much for vlogging. You're literally the only person on yt giving us information about OMFS! You're really underrated. Hopefully i can be in your shoes one day! Thanks!!!
Also can i just applaud you Rola on whilst trying to get some much needed sleep, your alarm went off to call you in, whilst checking your pager you actually turned the camera on to film it for us, your just amazing
This is so cool. I had DJS 2 years ago and really loved all the residents that were part of my journey :D its fun to watch this vlog imagining what my Dr went trough.
Hi Pankti, thank you for the kind words. Unfortunately since I am not foreign trained I don't know the exact details for this but maybe in the future I can do a video after some research!
I'm a first year medical student. Hopefully I'll get to do all these one day. It's thrilling and terrifying at the same time. Recently discovered your channel. ❤️
This is my first video of yours I have seen and I am in love with your content . Thank you for sharing , I cant wait to see more . I hope your staying safe and healthy during covid ❤❤
Dr. Rola Rabah vlogging her day... I love it! Really wished to see a little bit more of your days as a resident. I admire you as a person, Rola, because you seem to handle your career + personal life very well. I would love to see more vlogs, more personal videos such as room tours, q and a's about student life etc., cause you're really an inspiration for me. Thank you and keep going girl😘👑
Doctors need to start getting more sleep man. This is why there are so many medical errors during procedures which lead to fatalities. This is ridiculous
Before watching her videos i was under the impression that their shifts where only 8 hours like other jobs. Watching her work shifts seems much longer than 8 hours holy crap. 😳 definitely not enough rest.
@@rose-cq5xp after longer shifts (like nights shifts in a row or longer hours in a row) doctors and hospital staff tend to get a day off just to catch up on their rest and make sure they are in tip-top shape to perform for their patients. But I understand where your concern comes from! Residency is the hardest and longest, while as you move up the food chain, the more rest you are likely to receive.
Much adoration from India! Im a dentist and aspiring to become an OMFS as well! Joblessness is rampant among dentists here, but honestly I'd rather hold a scalpel than write spreadsheets. Good luck.
Just found your channel mrs.Dr.Rola Rabah, and i love watching this vlogs! I have so much respect for all of you in medical field, police etc.. so much dedication and just pure love for this job you have!!
....In Canada, doctors have 26 hours of call and I'm already worried. HOW ARE YOU DOING 36 HOURS - That's like 38-40 hours of no sleep with the total of getting to hospital, prepping, leaving, etc JEEZ LOUISE
I love this video, I’ve been waiting for you to post something like this for a while. But I also really want to know where you got your scrub cap from?
This video made me so happy that I was in a near fatal MVA third year of medical school and my loans were all forgiven for total permanent disability. I was a level 1 trauma and had over a dozen very major surgeries in the past decade and was having them a week apart at one point. I would be pissed as hell if my care was in the hands of a person who was up for 36 hours straight as on a cognitive basis it’s hardly different from being legally drunk. Let alone someone first assisting or God forbid performing the surgery. She couldn’t go to sleep after 30 hours and had to do 6 or 8 hours of tele-visits instead? No other person could take over for her? What type of program is this?! Looks like NYU to me. I was at Stony Brook myself which is not far from there. Anyway, you can see the lengths that they go through to find loopholes in the work hour limits. And why would there be such an urgency to get patients in after rescheduling when many of these procedures are elective lol. To the point where someone is working this long and sleeping 2 hours in 40 and apparently not even protected after this call and has to go back in for another day of this? This is why my former colleagues who completed their degrees and residency look like they aged 20 years in just 7 years. This is not safe or healthy. 24 hours I can understand, but 36 is just like in the 1970’s. I am just so grateful that now I get to make my own hours and to have been able to have two kids I actually can see and enjoy growing up instead of flushing my prime years down the hospital drain like this. I actually work with lots of MD and DMD students with everything from dental/residency/medical apps to staying in medical or dental school to USMLE / NBDE and am thankful none of them are gunning for surgery. This is just not cool at all and no state to be in when slicing into people.
can this program seriously not afford to employ another resident? both of them would be working 18 hours shifts as well im sure that should be enought to satisfy the sadistic desires of any attending just as well as making one resident do 36hrs. seriously, even if it's a given that the hospital administration does not give a damn about the well being of the resident it begs the question: are they so short-sighted that they can't see that someone who hasn't slept in 30 hours might be more prone to making mistakes which endangers the patients? or do they not give a damn about their patients either lol
I know the Libby Zion law is mainly for NY but it should be nation wide. There should be a nation wide cap on the amount of hours doctors and residents work. You guys are heroes. Heroes need rest too.
I am very interested in your videos i hope u make one for foreign students and how can they take certification to practice and specialise in your country Also i hope u make a video for your operation
As a pharmacy student, I would go on rounds with doctors, residents and nurses but I never knew what their actual day was like because I would only get to see them for a short period of time. Thank you for taking the time to do this and props to you for getting through these long, hectic days. It’s not easy but nothing worth it comes easy. I just graduated pharmacy school in May and it’s been pretty tough with finding a job with COVID but I trust everything will work out in the end. I’m excited to see more videos from you! Lots of love from Chicago 💕
Hello----I just have a question---so you are a dentist and a doctor? So, will that mean you'll be an orthodontist or surgeon who just focuses on teeth? I hope this isn't too stupid of a question!
She's an oral maxillofacial surgeon, so not really a dentist anymore, but not a physician either. Most of her work is going to be surgery on the the facial and oral area. She cannot be an orthodontist (orthodontists are dentists), and she is not allowed to do dentistry anymore besides pulling teeth out and placing implants. It wouldn't be right to call her a dentist because there's so much more things she has to do, so I'd say just "oral surgeon" is appropriate.
