For anyone struggling with .366 AP-M try to think of it as a shotgun with a little more range. At 100 meters it no longer does above 85 damage and therefore will not one tap to the chest.
.366 AP-M in the 209 has been my go to for quite some time. They key is to keep in mind you're firing a munition with a -20% accuracy debuff on top of a rifle that's already half smoothbore. It's absolutely brutal if you land your shots consistently at close to mid ranges, and the VPO-209 sounds fantastic unsuppressed. Your rounds deal so much damage that you can really take other players by surprise. 30 rounds of 90 damage is nothing to scoff at. It's a skill cannon, and will be bested by high RoF weapons in CQC, but it's versatile, lethal and reliable once you learn it.
Well in Russia it's classified as an shotgun because smoothbore, no rifling in the barrel. And it's easier to get shotgun license in Russia. That is why the cartidge was designed and the weapon made. Some other countries also have restriction for civilians that they cant have any cartidges that are used by militaries. The AP ammo is just nasty. Done the Tarkov shooter part 7 kils with the VPO
@@kanggoo57 yep! To clarify a bit further the rifling is only covering about an inch or two towards the very front of the barrel and has a bit of an aggressive twist rate in comparison to a barrel that is rifled all the way through
First of all, it's rifled, it uses Lancaster rifling, roughly oval in cross-section. Secondly, as far as I've read it's classified as a shotgun not only in Russia, but in other countries as well due to some international agreements governing these matters, but more importantly, it's no longer considered a shotgun in Russia due to the recent amendments in the law.
@@F1ghteR41 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--kqh7bwrx-w.html I wouldn't call Lancaster rifling as rifling in as compared to the polygonal rifling used in modern weapons.
This has been one of my favorite guns in Tarkov for about 3 wipes now. Not meta, but I love that it is different and slaps! Love the reminder of the different rail system. Can't wait to try it out.
My friend and I have been using this with EKO as an early wipe gun, not many 30 pen ammos available at that stage. Actually gives you a chance to pen through tier 4 after a few shots unlike m855
Ohh no shit!?! I've been using the 209 with EKO. It's not bad. And I'm pretty sure it's the only silenced weapon I can build atm. It's either my ammo or my sight, but sometimes I feel like the accuracy of the 209 really lacks. It's nothing for me to take 2-3 shots @ sniper scavs.
@@3adamwardw make sure you buy the weapon from trader (with 100% durability), because the ones you get from scav have huge accuracy penalties since they are at 50-60%...
I found that running a rat rig and lightly modded 209 is very good for raider hunting on Reserve. Decently cheap + enough damage to kill raiders quickly
The bullet drop and damage fall off past 100m is the rough part of this build, It is a great mid range ambush kind of weapon if you just go in with a basic low power scope and aim for single fire taps with a suppressor.
This budget builds are very un common and show that you research about it and take your time to test and find weapons that are cheap but are rarely used even tho they are very effective
Just dropped a duo while coincidentally doing Tarkov Shooter pt 1 with VPO-215 and iron sights using AP-M, I think I've found my favorite budget weapon.
TY rly good information, nice voice clear words. and ur helping me all the time - i started last season and got permantly slapped around. Even the easiest Scav were going to kill me - so i stopped the game but as i found your guides i recently becomming more and more convident that i know why i died, though learning and hopefully dont die next time. LSS: THANK YOU
I kinda fell in love with the VPO, still a noob but I prefer it over spraying with the ak. Also found like 2 supressors for it in raid, which was pretty nice. Found the AP rounds once in raid and managed to kill somebody with them, mainly shooting eko now since I am lvl
I used this a lot early wipe. ap-m was easy enough to come by, and virtually no one was running class 5+. One shot to the thorax or head was real nice. I found it fell off as the bell curve of players ranked up, though. I'm glad you mentioned the 10 round mags. Using this as a DMR the extra ergo is REALLY nice. I found though it was really inconsistent at 100m +. The MOA isn't bad, but weak enough to lose accuracy when sniping, as is the vpo-215.
Yes! My baby gets the recognition it deserves! Really hoping they add a lower base recoil gun that can take this ammo soon though. Also thanks for bringing up the M1-B gas tube handguard. That alone got me to lvl2 traders on the Vepr KM with a red dot of my choice.
You can also trade in two scav ones for a 100% one from Mechanic, and can often get a good deal buying just the internals from Fence, throwing on an AKM gas tube/cover and grip from Skier, trading them in to Mechanic for a shiny new one, then selling him back all the parts you're replacing off it anyways.
I love using the AP-M, I started using the VPO-215 after watching one of your video and it works great, accurate, cheap and I always get it back; that paired with a suppressor and decent scope means I have a simple, cheap and reliable Tarkov Shooter gun. On another note, I don't understand how weapon repairs work in Tarkov, and the only videos I see are about weapon jams, any chance you could make one if enough people are interested?
I'm pretty sure the lower the durability on the weapon the more likely it is to jam and repairing it just burns its max durability but it gets your gun to a better condition
BSG has info and I believe the wiki does too on how repair works. Basically anything below 60% has a chance of malfunction. If you mag dump above 60%, it will hurt your weapon and the hotter it gets, the more chance for malfunction.
@@TheJynx2011 I guess I meant the repair itself, I don't understand the cost differences between the three and what the extra cost gets me, and what level it will repair to.
@@Gigabeef I believe it adds 1 ergo. I actually set the iron sight as default when walking around as it is always more urgent to ADS when enemies are closer.
This is my first wipe and only 2 months in playing...I just had my most successful raid because of the confidence the VPO has given me. Love this monster!
As long as you're aware of the MOA, it's a great mid-range battle rifle. A part that you didn't touch on Giga, is that even tier 5 and tier 6 armors get shredded really quickly and still only require 2 or 3 thorax shots to kill. This was my go-to gun for the majority of last wipe, I call it the "Budgo Beamer" and eventually got so good with it that I would run the meta setup and called it the "Boujee Beamer." Got me lots of meta vectors, MDRs, slicks, M4s, etc last wipe. Haven't messed with it as much this wipe as full-auto m80 slingers are plentiful and so good
So in this video you mentioned about weapons being zero'd using certain ammunition. This fact is somethingg i was completely un-aware of and makes a ton of sense. Do you think you could do a video on this concept and/or provide some sources as to where you found this info as im now burning to dive into this more haha. Thanks as always, easily the most informative tarkov creator out there and love your work!
Thanks! Yeah I have it planned, there are a few old videos on the topic but I have wanted to do one for a bit. It's not as bad as it once was, because the trajectories are all flatter in 12.2 but as you saw from the clip it can still be a problem!
The video is very good, I've actually slept on it until recently and I really like it now, it's a great budget gun Also, if I remember correctly, it classifies IRL as a "Smoothbore Carbine" rather than "Shotgun", but I might be mistaken
I found this gem of a slayer by mistake. I was down to my last weapon (vpo 209 I picked up in raid to sell for some change) and I had found eko ammo for a decent price and figured “why not” and oh my gosh it was fantastic! But I thought it could be better. I unlocked the flea and found AP and oh. My. God. I juiced out the weapon for about 140K and am 1-3 tapping players every raid. The ammo is about 650-720 a pop which hurts but when you consider I’m putting down thicc bois with ease, I don’t mind it. I used to always throw these away but this gun pays for itself 2-4 times over every raid. I strongly recommend it to everyone I play with now.
I would love if the UI had something to where we can change what type of ammo the weapon is zeroed to. It would help in those cases where your shot is on, but since the weapon isn’t zeroed to that Ammo, your be up shooting high or low
Great video! I love playing the .366 guns even late in the wipe and I'm always sad about how little modding options they have :D On a different note, have you considered doing a guide on nightvision in general as well as in combination with scopes? Some of the most popular scopes are literally unplayable as soon as they are paired with nightvision, due to their brightness >-< Even after playing for 4 wipes I tend to avoid nvg because of that and also because I don't really know the exact differences between all the different devices. I only know there are blue and green ones + the super expensive ones that the chads run ^-^' As a result I play nightraids almost exclusively on Interchange and Factory, since a flashlight is pretty much all you need on those 2 maps. I think a lot of casual/newer players might feel the same, since there are only a handful of quests pushing you towards playing nightraids. Stay healthy and keep up the good work!
sadly with these .366 weapons, they are not really active modding platforms, they are cheap weapons made to get around regulations and there are only like 5 models of .366 weapons at all.
@@tezpokemonmaster yes, but also no, it seems to have a threaded muzzle, so all you need is an adapter, and a muzzle device for any caliber higher than .366 (kinda hard as most guns tend to cap out at .308 in size), but you should theoretically be able to just put a supressor off of a USP onto it
Commenting before watching the video, but after leaving a like of course. The .366 AP hasn't been too reliable for me this wipe. I've tried to use it for Punisher pt. 4 given that you don't need a lot of mags but it hasn't proven that good. The damage and pen loss over distance really kills it for me. The round still slaps for Tarkov shooter pt. 3 of course.
Funny because the BC (ballistic coefficient) is better on the AP-M compared to M80 ball or 54mmR Light ball so it looses less pen and damage overall. Probably what is happening is that you do not hit your target or not hitting them where you aim due to a combination of recoil and bullet speed more on par with hot pistol ammo, shotgun slugs or .300 FMJ or AP.
i loved how you pointed out about the 10 round mags. I'm so cheap that i thought about it too. maybe my ratty friends around the world will think the same.
6:23 This is the right comparison to make, as it shows how absolutely crazy overpowered .366 is in EfT. I think you're correct, someone at BSG definitely owns a .366 gun and is a crazy fanboy even by the standards of .366 owners. Overall, good video, although I find that it lacks an advice on what kit to put with such a niche gun.
If I’m not mistaken Nikita owns one… He even mentioned that the .366 AP ammo doesn’t exist in real life. He really likes the caliber, so he just made a round up. If I remember correctly he said that you can take as the as vals sp6 bullet and stuff it into the .366 casing. So that’s how the idea was born
@@Starboy-ll3fb I know that .366 AP doesn't exist, but given the description it might be a half-plausible round to make, provided you have SP-6 bullets at hand. My issue is more with how ungodly OP it is, which is nicely illustrated by comparison with M80.
Fair comment. I wanted to continue to do full loadout vids.. But I wasn't sure what else to say other than 'headset, ratnik optional, mmac/Ana m2, meds' haha I run all my budget kits the same! I always always use class 4 unless I'm doing a really stupid quest and I tend to use the same loadout for many many weapon setups. Any thoughts? Didn't wanna put the same content in every week is all :)
@@Gigabeef Well, there's a couple of basic ideas. First of all, with this gun you can hardly engage in close combat on even terms, so to speak, so you should be geared to be able to avoid it. Having the best possible headset for situational awareness is a must. Both helmet and armour should blend into the environment as good as possible, same goes for the backpack, which should preferably be smaller. You may forgo a low class helmet for a camouflage hat if it works for the map you're on. Secondly, if you are engaged, you should be able to disengage and survive, so you'd better carry at least a couple of grenades to get away safely and attract other players to the ones attacking you. In terms of survival it is also advisable to carry food & drinks with you. If you're running 10-round mags, it might be wise to carry a suppressed large-capacity pistol with you as well.
I actually noticed the .366 AP-M stats shine through the charts and thought I'd give it a go. Built three decent to good kits of this gun, two for close range with high ergo and one for longer range with low recoil. At the end of the day, this gun is unrealiable, lacks dpm in close range fights, too inaccurate mid-long range while also losing one tap chest potential really soon. It's essentially good if you can sneak up on someone pretty close to one tap them, but even then most other guns will do the same job. The damage and pen are amazing for the price, but the gun and the accuracy don't really fit well into any role. It's still a really good budget gun if you think about it. Take 10 round mags, use it like a Vepr-Hunter or an SKS with no mods and you can find it useful in the ultra budget role for ratting around.
I have found that at longer ranges, the AP-M ammo has significant drop off. Multiple times I have had to add 50 meters of range to my shot to account for bullet drop at 150-200meters+ that I do not have to do with 7.62x51/54 platforms. It is a vicious CQB round if you can handle its recoil tho. So I build my rifles for up close, aim at stomach, and let the recoil carry me up.
This is definitely true for the 215 because its zeroed for eko which is much faster. Less so for the 209 because of the fmj zero. Kind of annoying because you'd want it the other way around for the apm's!
The biggest thing I struggle with here is that the fleamarket is not available until lvl15, so until then I stuck one by one scanning these traders for these attachments
Geksa is actually my go to. It's flesh damage and frag chance are so high that the ROF doesn't really seem to matter, and it drops scavs like sacks of bricks.
@@ayzoidz2651 i actually like a lot of semis in tarkov , for some reason for me it works better even when up close.(excluding smg's, and some other guns)
Somewhat good, been running quite a few of these this wipe. It’s good with the AP ammo, but the recoil is crazy weird. Even with mods, it has a shit ton of recoil. (Also somehow a scav tanked two of the AP rounds to the thorax from 5m. Turned around and one tapped me. Lol)
My biggest gripe with this caliber is WILD inaccuracy ever since 2 wipes ago. I used to snipe with VPO-209 for days but now it's almost as bad as shotguns, dispersion even at 100m is crazy and beyond that completely unreliable - and that's completely disregarding damage fall-off and penetration fall-off. VPO-215 is the only weapon I ever consider running it in nowadays and even then for long range you have to use EKO because AP is just too slow and drops too fast so you don't get any mentionworthy penetration to begin with. VPO-209 used to be my favourite underdog pick but they nerfed it into the ground.
0:23 IRL .366 weapons in Russia not a "shotguns", they are smoothbore weapons. Shotguns are smoothbore weapons too; maybe because of this fact there is misunderstanding.
Im glad this gun is finally getting the recognition it deserves but im sad that people know about this now because that means itll be more expensive and ill get blasted with it more often.
@@Gigabeef Thanks. I did about a 100k build with the 10 round mags and dropped a chad in dorms first run. This is great since I can't craft or buy any other ammo that really pens lvl 4+
I used AP-M a bit with the 215 doing some of the tarkov shooter quests and used the 209 a lot with other ammo but have yet to try the AP-M with the 209 for real PvP...Late in the wipe doing punisher 4 I'm somewhat intrigued by this combo but feel a bit put off by the vertical recoil of the 209 compared to an RFB with M80/BCP that might even cost me less money.
I've been using the 209 allot, and in close range the combination of a 4x and recoil makes it a liability, so I've been running a TT for close quarters. But I've been using up my geksa and fmj rather than shelling out on ap-m, and yes the pen hurts, but it's cost friendly and helps me get my eye in, I'm still not to grips with this gunplay yet.
I run it with 10 round mags and use it to snipe at mid range. I one shot 3 members of a 4 man squad when I was sat up outside dorms (though the small mags bit me in this case as the fourth man got me).
@@michaelrogers6674 oh nah bro I try to aim for heads bc usually you’ll pen the face shield or it’s a lower class armor. I don’t think it’s a good gun for long range sniping
I feel as tho id still rather use the RFB for a cheap pack a punch build, 55k not including the m80 ( ik ik costly but the damage 😍) will have you DROPPING juicy chads in 3 shots or less
How about 300m and more sniping shots? The accuracy donwside is freaking me out...feels so random in some cases...im always trying to make a clear headshot...so how about the FMJ, with vpo 215?
0:24 it's classified as smoothbore rifle, not shotgun. In Russian weapon laws we have smoothbore weapon, like MP-133 and MP-153, and rifled barrel weapon, like semi-automatiс VPO Vepr KM/VPO-136. But VPO-209 classified as smoothbore because of 366 TKM caliber.
The Ammo and the Weapon are pretty nice and good bang for the buck, but for me the greatest downside is the pretty bad accuracy. Had dozen of shots not hitting even tough i was crouched and not moving. only played it twice this wipe in the first week, after that it was kind of unneeded for me...
Under 100m I don't think there's any situation where you won't hit a headshot, it's under 3moa I believe. People always over think the accuracy, its a % on the original and the gun is fairly accurate to begin with so 30% on that is not actually that much
