I'm currently printing the parts for this, and I'll share my finished project when I reach that point. I didn't realize it until it was too late, but my print bed isn't large enough to print it in single pieces.

@RefreshingViews I ended up cutting the parts in half and printing them, then gluing then together. It worked out pretty well.

Do you see any issues on making the “hinge” larger and hollowed out to fit the finder in there?
@RefreshingViews

That would be perfect, albeit tricky to make. Perhaps bore a hole down the centre of the bolt?

Great work. How long can you expose for example with 200mm? I have build one too (with your gears from thingiverse) but my tripod is crap. :(

Glad you are enjoying it and yes a decent tripod will make all the difference. I am only using mine with a wide angle Samyang 14mm so don't know how well it will perform with something more powerful. Let us know how you get on!

Good day. Could you advise on following: 1. Use a microwave motor 21 V 2-3 rpm with PWR regulator 2 Use 2 disks with a belt like a gear. How to do calculation than?

It’s about 120-130mm long - the middle third or so after it was bent.

Hi there, this is awesome. Just a couple of questions. How does the second gear screw onto the threaded rod? And does it matter what number of teeth the gears have? Thanks
@RefreshingViews
@RefreshingViews 11 месяцев назад
I epoxied a nut into the gear; and I just went for the biggest gears that fitted in the space (1:1 gear ratio).

Hi there, do you happen to know the torque of the motor you are using? I was hoping to get one that is 3-5V so that I can use it without having to have power from a house. I have looked at a few motors but im not sure if they will be powerful enough
@RefreshingViews
@RefreshingViews Год назад
Not sure of the exact torque but it’s powerful enough to life the camera and it’s lens. Obviously the slow rpm helps with power-torque.
@czajla
@czajla Год назад
gear ratio makes that motor does not require a lot of torque. I have built a barn door tracker using a 28BYJ-48 5V motor. It did not work well because whole set was too wobbly, but engine power was more than enough
@GeertDroid
@GeertDroid 2 года назад
Can you make a video of the results? And would be a stepper motor not more precisely?
@RefreshingViews
@RefreshingViews 2 года назад

@amrelsayed5893
@amrelsayed5893 9 месяцев назад
Hey, Thanks for the video, I will 3D print that, I think the plate is 270 mm as i can see from the file is that correct? Cause u have X axis size 100mm and Y size 270mm, So does that mean that it's 270mm long and 100mm thick? And What are the print materials that could handle a DSLR camera? One final question :D You said that it will move 1 step (in rod) each minute, Does that mean the mount will move every minute or it will continue to move small steps through the 1 minute? Cause if we are going to use a lense like 55mm we need it to move every 9 seconds. Thanks
@RefreshingViews
@RefreshingViews 8 месяцев назад
I printed in PETG as that withstands “hot car temperature”. The motor is a DC motor so it moves continuously at the sideral rate. All dimensions are in the print files. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

What's the type/name for the "polar scope" looking how to find one cheap
@RefreshingViews
@RefreshingViews 2 года назад
That’s a 6x30 finder scope. If you want cheap, a simple biro tube held against the hinge will suffice for wide angle shots. www.firstlightoptics.com/finders/sky-watcher-6x30-right-angled-finderscope.html

Hi Kirit - you can point the ball head where you want (up, down, left right). The camera is then pointing where you want while the tracker remains aligned to the celestial pole.

How do you make the curved threaded rod?
@RefreshingViews
@RefreshingViews 2 года назад
I bought a stainless steel rod; marked out the desired radius with a compass on a piece of paper and then bent it by hand to match the curve. The best part was in the centre so I cut the ends off with a hacksaw.
