In entirely the same boat regarding 3D printing - fascinated by the possibilities but utterly clueless. Printing little helpful things as you do in this video is probably exactly how I’d start too.

Thank you Chris for sharing my Apple TV mount in your video! I was wondering why I suddenly got some downloads 😅. The "holes on top" downloadable files do include that hole in the middle ;) I do print them standing up with a brim (so with the gap down). No need for supports or anything.

For your Apple Watch stand, can see some stringing on your model, might be the humidity, you can dry your filament and try again. Hope have a better result

Careful with CF petg if you don’t have a hardened nozzle it will chew through it before the end of the roll.

Why didnt you fix the rough surface on the Home pod mini stand? Heatgun or so. I think you need to lower the print speed to not get those rough surfaces when there is a lean. Also it seems you use too little infill for things that needs to handle stress. Normal pla is fine if you have enough infill.

@Vash.Baldeus

6:45 simple, not enough infill and layers to make it sturdier. My guess you used about 50% infill and 3 layers for perimeter?
@ChrisWilmshurst
@ChrisWilmshurst 5 месяцев назад
I followed the recommended infil of 20% with that one. I’ve since reprinted it at 50% with petg and it’s showing no signs of stress or cracks :)

FYI, if you want to hang your apple TV vbehind your TV, you're likely to get no connection or very irregular connection to any potentional game controllers you use with it if you game on it or stream games to it.

@74862
@74862 6 месяцев назад
Awesome video. Btw, you can dramatically increase the strength of your prints by increasing the number of perimeter walls and % infill. It’s hard to tell from your video but based on the empty space inside your broken parts it looks like you are using low percentage infill. For parts I want to be as strong as possible I use 4 perimeter walls and 100% infill
@ChrisWilmshurst
@ChrisWilmshurst 6 месяцев назад
Cheeers John it means a lot! I think I printed with a 20% infill, I’ve been following the print guides they usually put on printable. 100% infill could take a long time!
@74862
@74862 6 месяцев назад
@@ChrisWilmshurst yea it can take longer but if you also get a bigger nozzle it should make up the difference if you don’t want to wait. Most printers come with a 0.4 mm nozzle. If you switch to 0.6mm your prints will complete much faster and can even be a bit stronger for the same amount of infill since the plastic being extruded is now 50% thicker than using 0.4mm. Just something to consider if you get more into 3D printing. I fell down that rabbit hole a while back and have enjoyed it ever since. It’s amazing being able to have an idea and then realizing it in the physical world so easily
@ChrisWilmshurst
@ChrisWilmshurst 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for that suggestion! I’m guessing bigger nozzles are best for bigger prints? I have 0.4 and 0.2 nozzles. I’m not sure what I’d use the 0.2 for, but I picked them up as they were on sale.

@@ChrisWilmshurst I think you need to increase your printing temperature let say by 5 - 10 deg because on video it seems like layer separation.

0:00 «Apple accessories are pretty expensive». Thank God a 3D printer is quite low cost. 🙄
@ChrisWilmshurst
@ChrisWilmshurst 2 дня назад
You can buy a decent 3d printer for as low as £150 and filament can cost as low as £10 for a kilogram… a kg of filament can print you like 20 accessories. It’s economies of scale. Think outside the box and the possibilities of what you can achieve outside of apple accessories with a 3d printer.

@@ChrisWilmshurstwelcome to the rabbit hole that is 3d printing. Suggestion #1) switch to Orca Slicer Suggestion #2) complete the calibration per filament Those are the 2 best things that ever happened to me in my journey (using an old stock Ender 3). Hope these suggestions help. :)
@ChrisWilmshurst
@ChrisWilmshurst 6 месяцев назад
Hey thanks for the help! So far my process is… Boot up the printer, clean the bed and nozzle, auto level. The new AnkerMake slicer is based off the prusa one I believe, so it’s all trial and error at this point! I’ll try out your suggestions on one future prints!
@emv143
@emv143 6 месяцев назад
@@ChrisWilmshurst Orca Slicer has pre-built profiles for most printers out there. Orca Slicer is a fork of Bambu Slicer, which is based on Prusa Slicer, which is based on Slic3r. :) You'll only need to calibrate your printer just ONCE for every NEW filament want you use and you can save those profiles for future use if you run out and get a new spool. Once you set your filament and machine profiles via calibration, you'll see a BIG difference. My process AFTER calibrating: - Turn on printer - Slice model - Press Print :) I don't have the luxury of having a bed probe to auto level, but I only level my bed manually ONCE every 6 months or if I accidentally lean on the print bed. :)

Tbh for a beginner these prints don't look too bad. And while I don't really know much about this printer, I'm guessing the weird texture of the layer lines are more due to print settings rather than the quality of the printer itself. Like I'm still rocking my Ender 3 Pro from ~4 years ago, fully-stock parts n everything with little maintenance done to it and it's still printing out relatively nice stuff with the right settings!
