It’s amazing to hear these artists talk about all of the fundamentals we all still learn. Like of course, they’re fundamentals. But hearing these masters talk about “blocking in” and silhouette, and the one who didn’t want too much details. This is a great showing of entirely different styles and like every style out there from low detail to high :)
I've learned in this 15 minute video more then my 12 years of art classes in school ever taught me. The only thing school ever taught me was that I suck, without ever explaining to me how to paint or draw.
I definitely recognize Eyvand Earle and Mark Davis' styles in their paintings of the tree. However, their individual styles also come into the film, and it makes the film better because of their individual contributions.
Every so often I look this video up and rewatch it. It is so engaging. I think the black and white one is my favorite, but that gnarled closed up of the trunk is a close second.
I think Josh Medows got cheated in this recording. Film can't do his work proper justice as it makes it flat and the colors blend. You get a true idea of how good that painting is if you pause about 14:52 and he holds it in the light at a slight angle and suddenly the whole painting pops with texture and life.
Great paintings and it's wonderful to see them unfold.. I realise it's a time capsule of how we were but the misogyny still irks me as a female painter. How many females were denied opportunities to create and contribute at that time. It's all men, men, men... sigh.
thank you, exactly this! i was about to say the same thing you did. i am glad and cautiously optimistic though, that we now live in an era where, at least, *some* progress has been made compared to back then.
Walt: My Word It looks to be one of our fine artists neglected to mention he did a little micro dosing this morning, and here is his interpretation of a tree 14:35
Imagine having these four on your wall! Oh well, some day...when I somehow become a bajillionaire. Love them all, love this video, love this concept!!!
