My 99 Miata I used to own was 260 whp and torque I felt that a Miata shouldn’t even have that much so I can’t even comprehend lol .. 260 felt insane lol but fun
What a milestone. Don't even know where to start..remembering the 420hp achievement, it was so overwhelmed DRIVEWAY build. But this 523hp is beyond words, ofc it sounds insane and wants to rip the rear subframe from the body, but no bogging, no missfire, like a normal daily car. Congrats dude, you are amazing and you inspire. I'm so glad that followers could help with a few gallon of e85, it was used gloriously:) Off to grab a t-shirt now WHAT'S NEXT??:)))
You should def get an AEM 12 turn trim pot for boost control. Its P/N is: 30-2056 Its a must for high hp miatas. You can set a boost table 1 for wastegate pressure and boost table 2 for your mad table and have the trim pot blend the 2 tables in MS. 0 on the trim pot is 0% blend 12 on the trim pot is 100% blend.
You have to do a new draggy run in this beast. We all deserve it. BTW have you tried 275 tires just in the back since there is no turning it may help with traction, you can use all the traction in the world with this beast of a car.
Your car makes literally double the power to the wheels as my setup (basically max stock con rods) and I couldn’t be happier for you man. Been following this journey if you’re for a few years now and it’s so great to see the insanity you can unleash. Please be safe out there man the community would lose so much if anything happened to you. Keep up the wonderful content creation.
Congrats Greg, you earned it. I've been watching you for years, had two Miatas since then, and haven't even owned one in a year. I can't imagine ever not watching your videos since I'm always learning.
I can’t believe I’ve been watching your channel since before your first belt change diy! Congratulations for all your hard work and thank you for sharing your knowledge over the years! Well done! Can’t wait to see your next platform. ND, NC or If you decide to become Greg the E30 Dad I’d be okay with decision too.
Thank you for putting together these videos and congrats on breaking the 500, looks warp speed fast! Honestly, I've learned a ton and still reference a lot of your vids when working on my Miatas. I went BW turbo after seeing "real life" results on your vids, now I'm rebuilding a pretty similar setup: 6758 on kraken, forged, vvt, MS3 and ID1000 and so on.
Lowering from 7200-7300 Definitely not, that's nearly stock. All turbos will drop off between peak torque and redline, if boost is flat. They follow the efficiency of the engine pretty much.
Congratulations. And I love the intercooler comparison. Keep up the good work. Home built is the best! You came a long way! Must be crazy to rip the car with this power to weight!!!
@@bandwagon240 I would just pray for his hands really lol about to come outta there all kinds of cuts and bruises. I have a z32 and I have some marks to show lol
I finally finished rebuilding my engine for the 2nd time but it's running. It's turbo'ed, obviously not like anything close to yours, but it's turbo'ed. I just wanted to say you have been an inspiration to me and made me believe in myself to doing this. My turbo project has been about 5 years in the making, doing a 1.8 swap, gathering parts for the turbo, adding the turbo, throwing a rod, swapping in another 1.8, breaking a piston, but now it is now running after about a year and a half of fixing. I just want to say thank you for everything Greg. You don't know how much my life has changed because I started this project when it was a dark time in my life. Thanks again Greg.
Nice one Greg. Loved watching your videos and you've inspired me to do my own turbo install on my MX5. Keep these videos coming. Can't wait to see what you do next with it. 👍
Well done Greg, you've done your homework and put your heart and soul into that Miata. It's a beast! Any chance of a cost breakdown? I wonder how much you spent vs how much a v8 swap would cost.
Thanks for the great content. We have three miatas- 2x’99 & ‘03. Shout out to the guys at O Reilly’s on Clayton rd in concord ca for turning me on to your awesome channel!
Miata dad comes through again. How awesome. Truly inspiring. I have 1990 Miata that is being put together piece by piece right now in my garage. Gees I can't wait to drive it again. Anyone that's ever driven a boosted Miata knows exactly what I'm talking about. Nice work Greg. Blood sweat and gears !!!
Ohh man, there is so much history contained in that dyno sheet at the end. It started at 100 horse and now you're driving an actual rocketship. You earned it my dude now go RIP IT! That dyno plot made me realize I've been following this project for 5 years now, what a trip it's been
last year during the same time, a family got killed in an industrial estate after visiting Husband in a workshop putting in overtime. Just saying better test in a non risk area as after seeing the driver build his car in person for years and testing it the same way it was a not only a shock to hear it on the news but also devastating for all persons left behind. It is a great build Im all for it, but calculate all possibilities to maximize your efforts rather than consequences. The father left behind is still a mess just saying.
@altruismfirst6489 man that story barely made any sense. Are you saying don't do 100 mph in an industrial area? Cuz that's a bit of a N.S.S statement.
I’ve never owned a Miata but I’ve been watching every video since 2014. Just begged my wife to stop watching Friends so I could watch this on the big screen! Couldn’t be more stoked for you!
I don't know what the qualifications would be for GOAT Miata. Or what qualifications one might one need to call a person/car that title. But I think you deserve it. Definitely the greatest journey of car and hooman here on the yeetube. The advancements in production from 2013 to now, the achievements of goals you've made for the car and yourself, and especially the effort to keep it going are a treasure for anybody who can relate. Much passion, much car, much doge. To infinity and beyond! p.s. the sound of that miata is my alarm clock now.
@@TheCarPassionChannel nah... but it would be cool. "*maaaaaaaAAAhhhhhpsshoootootoo maaaaaaAAAAAhhhhhpsshootootooo MaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAaaaaahhhh!* Goodmorning, it's another beautiful sunny day in california, and this morning here on zoom zoom 90.0 we've got some delightfully modded miata sounds to get you going, have a nice day and pass you later." Lol, are you too busy for radio?
I’m building a 2002 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8 and I’m doing it all in my driveway. The only thing I’m gonna get a professional to do is the dyno tune. I’m shooting for similar numbers and your build is giving me all the confidence I need. Thank you
Awesome dyno graph of your journey with this beast! I loved the "broke and boosted" series, so seeing this awesome setup really means that much more. Looking forward to the next stage of your build.
I got hammered the other day for telling people my power goal. I was told "Dyno numbers are just figures, what does it trap?". The reality for me is my goal, is just that a goal. I don't plan to run it at full power for events, it's nice to know the power is there if and when I want it. 500whp in a light front wheel drive car doesn't make much sense for autoX and hill climbs with the way my power band works currently and lack of decent tires. I could care less what my 1/4 time is, but would be fun to try one of these days. NOT EVERY STRAIGHT LINE METRIC MATTERS to me, and frankly being judged solely on my trap time minimizes/disregards absolutely every accomplishment I've made elsewhere.
In the last video there was a guy in the comments who told you that intercooler pipe would come loose lol, I can't remember who, but I remember that comment. He recommended some other kind of clamp
I was just watching the old rebirth vids and laughed so hard at episode 11 (5:30) when you said you weren't trying to go crazy and make 500whp. Oh how times have changed. Congrats!
I've never been in a Miata and probably never will, but I am just totally amazed by your work and by your car. Congratulations Greg! I am pleased to be able to follow your videos to 520+RWHP.
Holy cow that Miata rips! Seriously watching the pulls I was in disbelief! Looked like it was CGI or special effects. Congrats Greg! Inspiring Miata owners all over the world! :~)
I agree. You max out power in a controlled setting... You need to drop it down an easy 25 WHP for streets. I have a 1991 Miata NA 5 speed with the 1.6L DOHC that is bone stock with 92K miles. I WOULD BE HAPPY WITH 300'ish WHP. I would probably dial it back down to 260 WHP on the street. That would be fast enough.
Jay Leno’s garage interviewed Christian von Koenigsegg who designs his own engines, said his v8 puts out 260 horsepower per liter. 260 x 1.9 liter = 494, less than your build, amazing!!!! (273/liter approx)
absolute goosebumps when you broke 500 for the first time! Congrats Greg! I've loved watching every step of this build, and can't wait to see more projects and content from you!
AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -the miata -the intercooler piping -grog peter -the undertray -that one dude on the Moped when doing a pull -me, not even there
I'm in the middle of building a D16 for boost. I've been nervous about everything I do to this motor and this just inspired a lot more confidence in my plastigauge motor.
Fuck yes Greg you absolutely deserve all the positivity, love and success you are having right now and with such a good message at the end ohh I just can’t enough wholesome vibes 🙌🙌🥰
Surely this high power-to-weight will take your Miata to 130+ mph in the quarter !! I can’t even imagine the feeling of acceleration in this 427 Mini Cobra !!
watch out that intercooler hose, when mine blew at full boost (36psi) it over-sped my EFR7670 and I needed new compressor wheel (and only that fortunately) ;)
Well done! 30 years ago I bought my red NA, and still have her, rust free, 46k KM, and stock. Probably makes 100HP. I can't imagine what she'd be like to drive at 500HP! One thing's for sure, I'm NOT showing her this video...
Congrats, Greg! It's good to see you reap the rewards of your efforts. I'm looking forward to "Too Soon Junior" on that same T-Shirt. If you make some with an NB on it, I'll buy two! One for me, and one for my dad who has a Mustang. He'd wear it too! lol
Bro, the editing on this is a whole different level. Amazing job, it's been fun to watch over the years. Also, I guess 520whp is cool too. Congrats. Now to go watch a video on depowering my rack so I can get mine back on the road.
Working on the 99 Miata as you speak. -Harddog rollbar I'm putting in now. - just got the flyin miata coolant reroute kit Friday. - flyin miata turbo kit has been ordered, just waiting - suspension and wheels will be ordered closer to spring........hear nothing but good things about KW coilovers (still looking), wheels.............. I'm probably going to end up saying fuck it and get the wheels I really want.... VOLK TE37, but damn....even for 15" they are expensive, but such a great looking wheel (was going to put them on my 95 Integra project car I didn't finish). Enjoy it for the summer then it's down the rabbit hole. bigger injectors, stand-alone ECU more boost... etc.. I do still need to order a LSD, probably stick with oem LSD
I've got a handful of.... things to sort out with my car, but maybe, just maybe in 2022 I'll tell Toby I want the new record lol I cant fathom my car having another 120hp....... just sounds freaking mental lol
I just love all the pokes at Mustangs, it's hilarious. You chose your enemy, and stuck with it. Whatstang lol And 523! What!?! Maybe get some big white circle stickers on the hood and doors, and put the number 23 on them - with a very small 5 inside the number 2. Because that thing, no matter how streetable it is, is a race car, and it's earned it's number. Congratulations :)
Amazing work Greg. Can’t remember if you’ve ever mentioned the weight, but if it’s still in the same ballpark as stock, you’re in the same power/weight ratio range as something like a McLaren 720S…
