Day 3 in the woodyard shows my process on how I process large rounds to manageable pieces. Lots of work, but very rewarding. Created by InShot:inshotapp.page...
Hi Michael S.! When I read this, I was like, YESSSSSS! That is an awesome word. The 4th video in the series is already edited, so it won't be this word. The next video I make I am using this word and giving you the credit!!! "Indicating a good chance of success" That word says it all! Thank you for watching and giving me a great word! It will be in the November 20th video! WST
Hello 3 Feathers! Awesome name by the way. I appreciate the sub. I hope you like what you see. The early stuff I was trying to find my way…. Well, I’m always trying 🤣 Thank you again for watching and subbing!
I gotta tell ya I like the idea of using the maul to finish the cut when noodling! I would always stop put the saw down and roll the round over to finish the cut. Definitely a time and chain saver move Mike! WST school of noodling 👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻🐿
Hey Todd! I noodle when I must noodle. I’ve had enough practice to find what works best. You have the right saw for it now. The maul is key. Stay away from the ground and keep that chain sharp. Enjoy the camping my friend!! 🔧🔧🔧🐿
Hi Mike!!😀😀 The Husky did a great job of noodling. What I usually do when I'm noodling is make my first cut like you do. Then instead of finishing it with the maul I give the block a quarter turn and make my next cut first then I finish both cuts with the maul. That way it helps keep you up out of your noodles on the second cut. In blocks the size you are ripping I will usually make 2 or 3 cuts down almost through and give it the quarter turn and make 2 or 3 cuts. Then just a few swings and it is all broken down. Take care and keep up the great work my friend!!😀😀 Logger Al
Hey Logger Al!!! That is some of the best advice I've received. I can see where that would be better. I will incorporate that into my knowledge bucket. I appreciate the advice and for watching/commenting. People with the experience you have are the true heart of this channel. Much appreciated. Take care and I will see you on the next one! WST
@@WSTMike Your welcome Mike. I always try to learn everything I can and pass on as much knowledge as I can. I've been doing firewood for 45 years now and am still learning.
Hey Logan! I love deadlines. It pushes you to get things done. I am sure you have noticed the same thing with your growing operation. I love the woodshed also. It is much better since I rebuilt it. Take care and thanks for watching! WST
Hi Daniel! The channel is doing great. Really starting to get into the flow of it all. Very humbling. I found a fence staple not long ago. It took a good bit of filing to get that chain right. Same with this last chain. I still wouldn't change from noodling. I have to be able to handle the pieces easily. Thanks for watching and supporting as always. I appreciate you!
I use that stihl winter blend also, but only in the winter time. Works well in the colder temps especially when I'm chainsaw milling. This time of year I usually start with a sweatshirt on, but am usually down to the T-shirt by the end of the first tank. Been enjoying this series, keep up the great content.
Hello again Timber Visions! Thank you for stopping back. I am glad you are enjoying the series. Last episode is Saturday. We will resume with just Saturday videos after that. I may sneak in some other content on Wednesdays. The short days really hurt me this time of year. Glad to hear you use the Stihl winter blend. Great stuff! I would be "all natural" on film, but no one wants to see that. I decided to stew in my juices for that video LOL!!! Thanks again for watching and supporting the channel! WST
701 I'm in the house! Big rounds are alot of work but they provide so much good straight wood when you break them down. I personally love the bigger stuff. My back not so much...
Hotbox in the house!!!! Thank you so much for subbing. I appreciate that. Indiana Doug is like a dating service 🤣 The big stuff produces a lot indeed, but you work for every piece you get! My back is fine…ask me again in a few years. Take care my friend!
Just a tip you may want to try. What I do when the rounds are too big to lift is I just lift the splitter, turn it over, and place it on top of the round. Easy day.
Hi Kenny! I was fortunate to get a good amount done before the nail. Noodle King 🤣 That sounds like a title earned for sure. Thanks for watching my friend! WST
Hi Del!! Hope all is well with you and the wife! Noodling is a lot about the chain. I spend the evenings getting the chains ready and let the 72cc and 94cc saws do the rest. Nice to have some power in the cut. Take care my friend! WST
Thank you , we are doing good . My wife is getting stronger everyday since chemo is done . I know she is feeling better because she was kinda on my butt yesterday !!!! LOL I’ve been looking at an Echo 590 but I’m not sure .
@@inthebackyardwithdel438 Don't hesitate on the 590. I can noodle rounds all day with it. Get it broken in and have it tuned up after about 10 tanks of fuel. And it runs so awesome.
WST, awesome 4X. Cajun is doing some good work and you are doing a good demonstration. Attire, denims, chaps, t-shirt, flanel button up, flanel button up with sheep's wool lining. If the wind will lay and it is 40°F + I am in the t-shirt if doing axe work... Another good one sir...
Hello Brian!!! Thank you for coming by again and counting for me. Much appreciated. You sure are going to love tomorrow mornings video! Cajun is an excellent dude. He has helped me on several occasions and builds a wicked work saw! Love the attire. You have me curious on the sheep's wool. Thank you for watching! I appreciate you! WST
When I got big tree service wood I had them drop some chips I spread them out to about 6 inches deep and blocked and noodle on the chips. You can cut thru and never hit dirt. Peace
Hi William! I noticed the same thing. The thicker the noodles got, the better it protected me from accidently sticking my chain in the earth. I still have plenty of chips from a tree service that I plan to spread in the woodyard. I think I am going to do what you suggested. Thank you very much for the helpful comment! Take care my friend! I appreciate you! WST
I told Trey that you would comment on it. I just knew you would and had faith. Funny what you don’t see when you are filming. Blue was looking for some critters as always. Thanks for watching and for your support as always! Cheers Rod! 🍻🍻
@@FirewoodMidwest Julie is a killer too??? Hmmmm, he might just like that. He’s a charmer. Julie doesn’t stand a chance 🤣 Thanks for the vid credit. I’m going to skip #4 and go to #5 just to mess with you 🤣 Thanks for watching and tell Julie to hit Blue up on Whiskers.com. His dating profile is up…..
I actually like breaking down huge tree service trunks. I do some here and there so it doesn't burn me out. I break it down same as you. Noodle all day. Though I do have a new splitter coming that will lift the big boys.
Hi Jeff! I don’t mind it either and I think it is smart doing it in steps. I am curious what kind of splitter you have coming? Let me know if you don’t mind. Take care and thanks for watching! WST
@@WSTMike I purchased an All Wood Musclewood Splitter. All splitter brands were being considered by me. I needed a short wait time. 18 months wasn't going to cut it for me. And fairly close to where I live in Ohio. All Wood is right up in Michigan, less then 3 hours away so I will be able to pick it up. The wait time is less then 2 months. The build quality seems to be up there with the best as well. As with all these big Splitters, the price is never right. But I have a 4, 6 and 8 way wedge coming with it. So I should be able to split some wood pretty quick. I have at the moment 15 cords of wood that I'm bucking up and getting ready for the splitter which will be here in December
@@jeffy1466 Jeff, those are very quality units. I don’t blame you for not wanting to wait 18 months. I sure wouldn’t. Glad to see some one doing research and finding other companies that make quality products. I’m in Michigan and there is a fair amount of companies that make equipment for the woods. Love to hear how you like it once you put it through the paces. Take care!!! WST
@@jeffy1466 Please do!! Love to learn from folks like you. Even if you wanted to send a vid to my email, I would love it!! woodsweattears@protonmail.com
You can run skip tooth and not have to change your bar length. I tend to run skip on the bigger pieces they say it helps with cleaning out the chips in the cut.
Hi Steven! I completely agree with you. I have two full comp and two skip tooth. I like the ship better, plus the rpm’s stay up there better. I rotate the chains, so some of what you saw was skip and some full comp. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it very much. Stay well my friend!
Great job Mike! I hit a lot barbed wire in trees here. 🙄 after you spend so much time on a chain sure is aggravating lol keep it real man. I’m trying to keep up with your vids I’ll just be a little slow. 💪🏽
No worries brother. I’m behind on vids also. Working and running a channel gets you behind quick! Always real here. If I ever don’t look real, let me know!!! 🤣🤣 Take care brother
The rounds break down fast when you noodle them, and you can get a ton of wood from them. I been finding the standing dead oak with no bark is running 35%-40% moisture but they seem to dry faster then live trees would Great job
Hi Larry! I appreciate your comment. I agree with you 110%, I’m getting a lot of wood. I’m always looking for dead standing also. Let nature do most of the work. Take care, Larry! I appreciate you.
you are getting some big rounds. I would not have all them layers, just jeans and a shirt, maybe a flannel, I hate to be hot and sweaty. I hear sawdust works well between the sweaty legs.
Hi MSOH! It was in the 40’s, so I decided to wear the layers. I hear you though, getting sweaty underneath isn’t great. Sawdust would work also 🤣 I really appreciate you watching as always! Take care! WST
Hi Larry! Thanks for coming back and commenting. No booting happens around here. You have a right to free speech my friend. I'm glad you enjoy the channel. I'm just trying to make WOOD fun and to be myself. I'm not a wood seller (yet) but I know what I want when it comes to firewood. I can tell you it isn't green and it isn't trash. I think all I have learned as a user will make me a better seller when that day comes. Again, thank you for supporting the channel. We appreciate you! WST
Mike, Funny to watch, back in the 70’s it was a no no to noodle wood, I split it all by hand, maybe the fact there was no kick back protection or automatic oilers on the old saws🚜🪵👍🏼🇺🇸
Hi JD! Amen to that brother! It amazes me how many people just throw whatever they want into a boiler and expect it to perform! It would be like putting diesel fuel in your tractor that has water in it. NO BUENO! Things are only as good as the fuel you put into it. Hope all is well in OK! Take care and thanks for watching my friend! WST
@@jdspencer4297 Never will say there is not a better way. I guess that is the way I’ve done it and haven’t explored other avenues. Thanks for the idea. After 4 days straight in the woodyard, I think I saw one of my abs pop out. Hadn’t seen him in awhile🤣

Gringo Pine!! Hope all is well on the doorstep of hell! I totally agree with you!! Cedar noodlings would be tremendous. I would do a 15 minute video of me just rolling around in them! The story of WST was not really a story per say. I just riff and say whatever comes to my mind. It was fitting at the time. Take care brother and peace to you and yours! WST

What outerwear jacket and pants were you wearing for woodcutting? Looks like a good setup. I typically wear denim jeans, hickory shirts, denim vest and or jacket from Bailey’s.
Hi Richard! I use the Husqvarna Technical Gear. Very durable and lightweight. Here is the link for the jacket www.treestuff.com/husqvarna-hi-viz-technical-jacket/?gclid=Cj0KCQiA-K2MBhC-ARIsAMtLKRvKmdXsrB62QeVCUp7Iu9rkh_NFNsfxuA8wqTYXYnYtxG4Ncq5R-14aApuDEALw_wcB I also use the technical chaps for the summer and the insulated bibs/chaps for the winter. I can’t find the link to the insulated bibs. They may not make them anymore?? I appreciate you watching and I hope you are enjoying the videos. Take care! WST
Nice Mike breaking down those big rounds. Would have been really efficient if you could have split them down all the way before stacking. Love the saw take care, Ben. #ogaoutdoors
Hi Ben, I do agree that it would be more efficient, but the plan was to break them down and get them under cover before the snow flys. I will split down what is needed once one of the stalls is empty in my woodshed. That may be December or January. Thanks for watching as always!
Good morning Mike. With all those noodles do you have a plan for all of them. I’m not a noodle guy first off but I may try it out lol. Been fighting 20 plus inch rounds of red oak. It’s heavy even cutting them 14 inches long. More time with the saw is a fun thing though lol. I be out!
The Stan, good morning to you. This is all boiler wood. I’m waiting for one of my sections of the woodshed to open. I will split the noodles and stack them in the woodshed. Having over 100 rounds 20” diameter and up is a lot. The chainsaw is the quickest and easiest way on the body. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel as always! WST OUT!
Hi Robert, I sharpen 2 chains and it lasts me 6 hours or more. I had 4 days and 100 rounds to get done. The chainsaw is the fastest and easiest on the body. Thanks for watching and commenting. WST
