Hello Thomas! Glad you got the hoodie and I am really glad you like it. Wear it proudly! You get reward points for sending folks to WST 🤣 Thanks for the support! WST
Good demo with the chainsaw against the chaps. I hate to say this but I have never worn chaps in the last 40+ years of cutting my own firewood, around 10 full cords each year, then I started to see videos on chainsaw accidents last winter so I bought my first pair of high quality chaps last spring and have worn them ever since, even if I needed to run the saw for a couple of minutes. I will say this, the good Lord has always kept me safe and I thank Him for that whenever I'm out cutting wood.
Hi J! I hear what you are saying, but I have very happy to hear you wear them now. I’ve had a few instances where I accidentally swung the saw toward me and caught my chaps. Very minor damage, but I always thought what if? Thanks for sharing your story. Stay safe my friend! WST
Good Morning Mike, this was indeed our first time seeing chaps vs a chainsaw! Thanks for the demonstration, it's nice to visualize how they protect us in the wood yard. Good Luck with Big Blue, hopefully its an easy fix. -David and Rachel from CFS
Hi David and Rachel! Glad you enjoyed the video and realized how much you love your legs! It was a fun vid to do. Big Blue is healed. Just had to diagnose the issue and was able to fix it for ZERO dollars. Happy that is all it was. Thanks for watching and supporting, WST!
Hi W,S &T - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I'm always amazed how few guys your side of the pond wear any leg protection when chain sawing and when they do it's usually chaps. I started off with chaps but found them uncomfortable and sometimes impeded mobility so I switched to proper trousers. They are light, cooler and more likely to provide better protection and I never operate a saw without them. As I understand the theory, the fibres main purpose is to jam the chain thereby stopping it in the shortest possible time and preventing penetration of the skin.
Hi Big Rodders! It’s been awhile. Glad to have you. There are a lot of people that don’t where protection regularly. It’s everyone’s decision what they want to do. Personally, it’s something I’ve invested in to stay safe. I appreciate you watch and good to see you again. Take care! WST
Nice demo…….I hope the tractor isn’t an expensive fix. Thanks for sharing the demo for those that don’t think the chaps are needed or necessary 🚜😞🪵🪚⛓👍👏
Hi LTD! Glad you enjoyed the demo. I had fun doing it and had no fun cleaning up the saw! Tractor is fixed and ready to go. Cost me nothing but time. Thanks for watching! WST
Hey Woody! Glad you enjoyed the vid. The only way it would be more interesting is if I did the demo while wearing the chaps. That would have been a train wreck inside a dumpster fire. Tractor is fixed! A little time and zero cost. Happy as a squirrel at a peanut festival! Thanks for watching! WST
Glad you didn’t get in a lather when you got that big gash. Glad that it didn’t pull you in too. A lot of gladness here. Wonderfully informative video Mike. 🐿🐿📏👍🏻😬
Hey FM! Thank you for realizing and pointing out my best adjectives from this video. I pride myself in choice words to describe my subject matter. I’m GLAD you enjoyed it! I’m still not sure what that emoji is after the two squirrels?? Paper towel roll? Please answer me back… Goodnight. WST
Good to see you again Mike. I feel the same about such problems as your tractor. It's only metal, rubber and plastic. I laugh at such problems. Great demo on cutting the chaps. I cut a hole in the first pair I bought the first time I wore them. 7.7°F here in Virginia last night. Clint
Hello Clint! Good to see you also. Problems are what you make them. I use to get a little sideways when things went bad. I learned that if I stayed cool and thought it through, the problem was solved much sooner and stress free. Enjoy the weather and stay warm. That is cold for you all! Take care! WST
Good video thanks for sacrificing the chaps it shows you should wear them you might have a good Nick in the leg but you probably won't end up in the er that sucks on the tractor hope it's not too much
Hi Larry! Hope all is well in NE Ohio. Happy to sacrifice a pair of chaps for demonstration. I really wanted to know what would happen at full RPM. Needless to say, cleaning the saw was harder than the New York Times Crossword. Anyway, the tractor is fixed and it didn’t cost me a penny. Just time and common sense. Thanks for watching my friend! WST
Nice video, sorry you were having a poor day, but you are right yelling and kicking never solves anything, after seeing what happened with the chaps, I realized my wife does still love me after all these years, she gave me a pair for Christmas knowing I would never buy them for myself
Hi Heinzie! Hope all is well. The day got better when I destroyed the chaps. I felt so much better! Your wife likes you living, that is a good thing. Tractor is fixed and good to go. Figured it out and it cost me nothing but time. Thanks for watching! WST
Making do. Most of my temporary measures have been in place so long I fear they may be permanent. I see you already have leak fixed on tractor, so good deal. Good demo on chaps.
Hi Bill! I’m a little sleep deprived today, so I’m not sure the measures you have in place. Pearl Harbor was on again last night….. The tractor is fixed and I was very elated it was an easy fix. WST 1 - Dollar Signs 0. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the video. Take care! WST
Mike, great demonstration on the Chaps! I always wondered what would happen, now i know. Hope you get the hydraulic leak fixed and it is inexpensive. Friday i was getting some honda keys that i lost somehow for my Wolferidge and on my way home a pulley bearing went out, i lost my power brakes and power steering. I managed to drive it home because i had dual batterys, but man it was hard to steer and brake. Dad always said even if things dont go as planned, make the best of it. Which is what you did. Have a good one and see ya on the next video!
Hi Craig! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I always wanted to know also, so we all found out together. The tractor is fixed and back at it. It just took some time to troubleshoot and a wrench. Very happy it cost me nothing but time. Sorry to hear about your truck! I hope that gets resolved very soon. Sounds like maybe something in the computer for both those things to act up in unison? Best of luck and your dad was right! Thanks for taking the time to watch. WST
Stuff broken down are times we all start telling our frends how we love there mother..🤣🤦 Nice chaps demo. I got a pair afer another channel did this a few years ago but still makes a good reminder for us to ware them and the new guys coming in too..
Hello Daniel! There was no mother lovin’ here. I was as cool as the other side of the pillow and oily….. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the dumpster fire. I had fun lighting it up and watching. Thanks for watching and supporting! Take care, WST
Great Demonstration Mike! Nice way to utilize the old chaps one last time. I gave my first set to a friend. They were still viable and he’s the kind of guy who wouldn’t buy them for himself. Depending upon ground conditions, I oftentimes don’t wear them when felling. I’ve caught the straps on the heel of my boots in a getaway scenario and down I went! I’ve come too close whilst bucking a time or two... I nicked the outer fabric around the left knee numerous times without get’n into the spaghetti😬🥲 Too close for comfort! Bless’ns to ya, Tedd
Hello Tedd! I understand in some cases that chaps impede the sawyer. I got better form fitting chaps to allow better movement, plus I get more cat calls when I wear them. In your case also, you are a surgeon. You can patch yourself up, the rest of us can’t….. thanks for watching. WST
Hi David! Chaps are a pain, but they do what they are supposed to. Glad you enjoyed the vid. By the way, I have fixed the tractor. Thanks for watching and take care! WST
Hi John! Hope all is well in SJ. It was a fun test initially, cleaning the saw was a pain!!! Leak fixed! I’ll cover that in a future vid. Take care my friend. WST
WST, great demonstration, not a free one...$...I am thankful for the sacrifice and "we" will have this for a reference indefinitely....Also very wise advice on the cussing/anger fit, cool, level heads prevail....great job sir...
Hello Brian! Glad you enjoyed the demo. It was not that expensive. Just an extra pair I never wear. I some more expensive ones that fit better that I use. It was just fun to see what happens at full RPM. Cooler heads prevailed and the tractor is fixed. Some time, thought and a wrench is all it took. All good. Thanks for watching! WST
Always wear your safety equipment! I cut my shin last May while wearing shorts. I will never make that mistake again. Keep calm, never be in a hurry and wear your chaps
Hi Richard! I sure do agree with you on wearing the safety equipment! I’m sorry you had that happen to you, but I’m thrilled you learned from it. Chainsaws are hungry beasts and they don’t care what they are cutting! Thanks for watching my friend! WST
Thanks for the chainsaw chaps video - it’s important to keep safety in mind while enjoying the finer things in life. Tough day - I hope you get you tractor issue sorted out and get it back in service - this is an opportunity to learn and move forward - enjoy the journey - cheers
Hi Bota Bob! I agree on the safety aspect. A good day of work is one you return from safely. The tractor issue is fixed and will be covered in a future vid. Thanks for watching! WST
Hello Don! Glad you enjoyed the dumpster fire. I also agree that if you have any equipment at all, you will have those days. Fortunately, I was able to fix the issue later that night for ZERO dollars and just some time. Appreciate you watching my friend! WST
Morning Mike! That’s a bummer on the hydraulic leak. Cold weather seems to make the weak points on equipment often fail. Hopefully it’s a simple fix. Chap demo was almost exactly what I had pictured I’m my mind. I guess more than anything the strands are designed to stop the rotation of the chain immediately!!! Thanks for sharing brother 👍🏻👍🏻🐿
TOA, TOA! Tractor is fixed and it cost me nothing but my time. The chap demo was fun and a bit labor intensive later on cleaning the saw! Cheap chaps or not, they would have saved a leg. Thanks for watching, brother! WST
Thank you for that valuable demo and sacrificing a perfectly good chap leg for our edification. But you didn’t show whether you got your ash nicked or not. Cheers. 🇨🇦
Hello Cloud Moon Lake! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I had fun making it for sure. You bring up a very good point on ask the ash and if it had a gash or not. I should have done that!!! Thanks for watching and for the great comment! Take care! WST
I thought for a minute I was going to see Rage 😡 Monster on screen, dude perfect style. Good vid my friend. Just heading to my land, going to be 33deg C today, so lots of wood and sweat today too. TheRuralProject
Hello Chris! Rage Monster 🤣🤣 He use to live here, but I traded him in for a sandbox with a rake and some stones. Calm. 33deg C !!! Wow!! That’s 94 degrees F here. Wow! I won’t see that for 6 months! Anyway, be safe and drink some water. That’s toasty. Thanks for watching my friend! WST
Hi Max! Chaps do their job for sure. This was in no way point at FM. Just the timing of the video. I also called it a dumpster fire, because I thought train wreck would be too insensitive…. Thanks for watching! WST
Hope the hydraulic leak is an easy fix . I think I know why we had the safety demonstration but it was actually pretty cool to see what would happen . Great video ! Del
Hi Del! The leak is fixed and I will cover that in a future vid. As for the safety demo, it was just me wanting to destroy something and see if I would walk away from it. Thanks for being a loyal supporter. I appreciate you my friend! WST
I wonder if there is a difference between the cheap chaps and the more expensive ones? Interesting test the real dumpster fire would have been you wearing them during the test. You know like " hey Billy hold my beer lets see how well these saw chaps work that I'm wearing"
Hey Snypes! If I would have been doing the test while wearing them, that would have been a train wreck inside of a dumpster fire!!!! I think there is a difference between quality chaps vs. the cheap ones. I’m not made of money yet, so I just shredded the cheapies. Thanks for the comment. Thanks for watching and take care! WST
Great video about chaps. To be honest, I never have used chaps. But, I need to, for sure! I know the feeling about equipment failure. I went out to my 2019 Chevy Colorado truck I purchased brand new and have 2 issues happen on Wednesday. First, the wipers do not work. Well, here in the Pacific Northwest, wipers are kind of important! Second, a few minutes later, the brake fluid is low warning appears. We'll, so much for cutting wood today. I can't get the truck in for service until Tuesday. The fuse is fine. The brake fluid is real low. I don't know what's up with that, no leaks I can find. I am still in the 3 year 36 month bumper to bumper warranty time, so that should be good.
Hello Steve! I’m clap you enjoyed the video. It was more for me to learn if I could survive an angry Husky. Sorry to hear about your truck. That gets a bit frustrating, especially being that new. I went through the new DEF requirements on my F350 diesel. That was a PITA while they tried to get that right. 3 times in the shop and now it’s finally right! Best to you getting the Colorado working for you. Thanks for watching! WST
After further investigation, I had an engine fire that burnt some wires and melted the bottom of the plastic brake fluid reservoir, and who knows what else. Tow truck is ordered. It's less than 3 years old with 30K miles, so not sure what's up.
@@WSTMike After nearly 2 months in the shop I got my truck back a couple weeks ago. Found our a rodent chewed it's way through the wiring and brake fluid reservoir. $3400 later, got a new wiring harness and a used brake fluid reservoir.
Good video. Most have a story to go with each of their safety items. Stuff just happens. Please get back to our regularly schedule less serious shananagins like you cutting a 4 inch tree and winching with a 2 inch cable over on and through a muck filled pond just to say it went better than expected lol. On a serious note have an great weekend.
THE STAN! That’s funny. I felt like this video was tame from the standpoint that I didn’t set myself up for felling 2” diameter pines, while screaming timber or run for your lives. It was simply a, go with the mojo kinda vid. The tractor deal set me on a different course and then the junky ash didn’t help! I pride myself in my ash. I like it firm and dry. On a serious note… shenanigans will soon ensue. I’ll make sure of it. Stay warm my finger lake friend! WST
Hi David! The chaos did do better than I thought. Happy to know I have a chance of walking away if I do have a slip up. Tractor is good to go now. Figured it out and it cost me ZERO. Thanks for watching! WST
Well that tractor problem chaps your ash. :( Did you do the chaps section for Rod's Education? 😛 Thats just a little chunk of meat instead of going to the bone!!!!!!! Excellent test!!
Hello Steven! Congrats on using each topic of the video in a sentence, well done! 🤣 Rod was not the reason I did this, I did it because I wanted to know if I would survive a 70cc saw coming at my leg. We got the answer. The Ash tree I strapped the chaps to didn’t even complain. Win, win! Thanks for watching and for the awesome comment! Take care. WST
Cajun! How goes it, brother? Now worries about the tractor. She’s fixed and doing what she does. Just a leak and was solved quite nicely with a wrench and some muscle. Hope you’re healing well. WST
Hi Logan! How’s the truck? I’m sure you’ve put a 100,000 miles on it already? Tractor is fixed. Simple fix. Jeans, eh? Well, it took me an hour to clean the saw from the chaps, I’m not going to do another test anytime soon. Sure did enjoy the demo though. Take care my friend! WST
Hey Mike, truck is doing good. Glad to hear you got er fixed up easy. I hear ya, I’m sure you had a fun pulling all those little strands out of there. Maybe I’ll have to do the jeans example on my channel🤔🤔
Ive seen this demonstration done by Mike of Outdoors with the Morgans i believe. I hope im remmebering that correctly. That ash sadly wouldnt be much use to ya or even in a burn barrel if you are just trying to get rid of it
Hi John, very good point and something I’ve considered. Thought about not doing it if people that saw them thought I was careless or just lucky! 🤣 I’ll hang them in remembrance. Thanks for watching! WST
Hi Larry! I agree on the trailer. I have one in mind, just thinking on it a little more. My Cat is a 1998 300 4x4. I wish it was bigger, but it does a lot of plowing and general work. It hauls me down the road every week to ice fish. 👍
@@WSTMike Don’t know if you watch my channel, but I have a 1200 polar trail that I use, the trailer tires follows in the ATV tires tracks. I plow a lot of snow also. I haul about 10-15 full cords a year with that trailer Take care
@@larrykluckoutdoors8227 I do watch your channel and I have seen you use that trailer. I know you like it. I have a few things ahead of a trailer that I would like for the firewood. Thanks for the advice. I always appreciate it!
