4 Extension Ladder Safety Tips 

Using ladders is a necessary part of cleaning and maintaining your facility. However, they can become dangerous tools when safety measures are not followed. Depending on the type of ladder, there may be different safety rules you should follow. Let’s discuss some important tips for extension ladder safety.
1. Only extension ladders should lean against a wall. Step ladders should always be used in the open position.
2. Extension ladders should extend above a roofline by at least 3 feet. They should also be tied off, or used with assistance.
3. Maintain a safe angle with the 4 to 1 rule. This means that for every 4 feet you want to climb up, the bottom of the ladder should be 1 foot away from the wall.
4. Never stand on the top 3 rungs of an extension ladder.
