In this video, we'll talk about how a Kong dog toy works. A Kong dog toy is a great tool for training your dog. It's also an amazing pass time for your dog when you are looking for an activity to do inside. Stuffing your Kong dog toy is a good way to keep them happy and it will give them something to focus on when you're teaching them to be in their crate quietly, or while you're traveling, it's a good way to help them relax. But here are some other games you can play with your dog just by using your kong dog toy!

Loved the recipe! I also like combining different textures when stuffing a Kong. My border collie Java will have a great time playing with the Kong stuffed with carrots and peanut butter only but my husky Jenna won't "go through the veggies" unless she can smell the sausage from the other end, so I often modify recepies to add the protein at the very end to make sure she's motivated enough to eat the veggies

I think I posted this comment in the wrong video but... you get me. Loved this one too. Some toys I leave on the floor before I leave, and others I hide. That gives them an extra something to do when I'm not home

Great ideas! Sometimes we have to "get creative" to make sure everyone eats their veggies ;) Thanks for watching! ~Ken

Ever since we started stuffing our dog’s kongs, she’s not interested in them unless they have food in them! She loved just chewing on her extreme kong before, but not anymore. Which is a shame as it’s really durable.

Good ideas, and I have to say it’s been quite awhile since I’ve heard the phrase “one trick pony.” Enjoyed that. So off topic: I would love your input on the Do Not Hug Your Dog stance. Thank you!

Hi, Diane! I'm not sure if "do not hug your dog" is a topic of controversy or not, but I am sure that any time we get a new puppy, we spend a lot of time handling him or her. We hold different body parts and reward, pretend to look in their ears, eyes and mouth and reward. It's important that your puppy gets accustomed to the idea of being handled by you, which will make them more comfortable when being handled by someone else. I would never hug a strangers dog, and a lot of dogs get worried when someone is standing over them, especially when someone reaches in to hold them. Maybe this is where the question comes from. When we have a new puppy that's uncomfortable with being held, we patiently wait until they're more relaxed in our arms, then praise and sometimes reward them. This can be one way to get a little wiggle worm of a puppy to relax. We hug each and every one of our dogs. They are our family. Here is a link to the video we published about why handling your puppy is so important: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cpWiQNaZWss.html Happy Training! ~Ken

McCann Dogs I agree wholeheartedly on all your points. Not hugging dogs is a controversial topic. According to the “experts” dogs do not like to be hugged, and the experts use the dogs’ body language as indication to validate this. I have always handled my dogs, with lots of loving and affection. When I saw this hug info, I kept looking for valid reasons. I can’t imagine not giving my dog a hug, especially a puppy. Because I respect your handling and approach to dogs, I thought I would ask. Thank you very much for your time and input.

When you consider the "expert" opinion, keep in mind that we train over 500 dogs each and every week. We have staff that has trained tens of thousands of dogs, working with every breed and temperament, ranging from family pet to dysfunctionally human aggressive. I have worked with thousands of dogs over my 10 years as an instructor at McCann Dogs. I can tell you that it comes down to the dogs' ability to be handled. And that relies entirely on introducing the dogs as puppies to handling. You can trust your gut in knowing that with enough opportunity to get used to handling, and being touched and held, you can hug your dog. And make sure to enjoy it;) Can't wait to hear more about your puppy! ~Ken

You don't need a washer just tie a knot big enough to not go through the whole.
@McCannDogs
@McCannDogs 5 лет назад
Hi there, Memphis Reines! In some cases that will definitely work! In some cases though with enough tugging on the rope or lace, he knot gets tight and slips through the hole. This is especially true for the senior Kong’s, which are quite soft! If you can get away with not using a washer, that is an easier process for sure! Thanks for watching! ~Ken

Peanut butter, really? and you're inside? Seems like a recipe for disaster. Say it ain't so Joe.

Peanut butter is considered toxic for dogs.
@McCannDogs
@McCannDogs 5 лет назад
Hi there, Memphis Reines! That’s actually a myth! The ingredient that you need to be aware of is Xylitol. It’s an artificial sweetener that is toxic to dogs, and can be found in some artificially sweetened products. Peanut butter itself isn’t harmful to dogs. When giving your dog peanut butter, using an all natural peanut butter is always the best choice because it doesn’t have any extra calories in it! Thanks for watching, and Happy Training! ~Ken
