I am from the south of Poland (next to Wrocław). 20 years ago I moved to Warsaw and at the beginning I had to take the time to like it. Today I can say that I love Warsaw with all my heart. And when I meet my friends who live in different Polish cities and tell them that I love Warsaw - I see big surprise in their eyes (what are you saying - how can you love Warsaw? For what?). My answer is always one: for it's energy! for possibilities, for what cannot be seen with the naked eye, but what is experienced every day. I have lived in various beautiful places (paris, washington dc, lausanne) but Warsaw is the city of my life. I wish you to experience the energy of this wonderful city that rose like a phoenix from the ashes.. and it s just the beginning:-)

What's more interesting : I've heard many times a surprise or even bad opinions about the city from people who ... actually haven't lived there :)) That's a funny thing about humans psychology and their need just to adress a subject which is ... popular/common etc . On the micro scale I observed the same pattern about studying at KUL. What may seem to be much different due to the background of the university. But all in all, most of the opinion were expressed by people who haven;t graduated from this univerity and even been there at one. How 's it possible that they have so many to say about it.

I have to admit that your observations about Poland are very accurate. TBH I've never even lived in Warsaw, but when I moved from Poland to Berlin (5 years ago) I had an impression that I went back in time for about 10 years - I was shocked that Germany is so backward. It turned out that in many aspects Poland has overtaken the "west", is much more modern and, in addition, is still developing what is very visible, unlike in Germany. Both 5 years ago and now in Germany, there is still a problem with card payments, even in a big city like Berlin. When I lived in Poland, contactless payments have been in place for many years. In Berlin, it was not, and it was just beginning to appear - all the terminals were not adapted to it. Same with Apple Pay - In Germany at first nobody knew what was going on and when I wanted to pay with my watch, cashiers took the terminal and said that you can pay "only by card". Not to mention how many things in Poland can be done online. In Germany everything is sent by traditional mail and it takes ages to get something done. Self-checkouts began to appear only 1-2 years ago, where it has been operating in Poland for x years. There are so many things that make your life easier in Poland, that Germany doesn't have, there are thousands of examples like this. I don't even want to start talking about housing situation, sending CVs to apply for the flat as this is the worst aspect of living in a big western city. Flat offers are often disappearing after 10-15 minutes as they already have over 100 candidates by this time. When it comes to salaries, if you have education, white-collar job (especially IT, business or even such thing as UX design) you are able to earn exactly the same in Warsaw as in Berlin. + Warsaw still has this advantage that costs of living are much lower

This is because Poland has one of the most developed mobile payment systems in the world. In 2018, 27% of the population paid at least once for their grocery shopping with a phone.

Hello my dear friends.. and THIS is why I continue to fall in love with Poland. With Warsaw even. You most definitely have me thinking, and contemplating my own future my friend. Yes, I live in a metropolitan city. Los Angeles. Sure we have diverse foods here. However, safe? Unfortunately this city is becoming progressively worse as far as safety. New York City? Where I’m from? Again, sure. Some absolutely beautiful architecture! Fantastic places to go, and of course to eat. I’m also a foodie, and crave different and unique options. Safe? It’s New York. So no, unfortunately. Not so much. You started with the infrastructure. And to be totally honest. I wouldn’t take a bus here if you paid me. Dangerous. Trains even. Any kind of metro here almost doesn’t exist. I mean it does… sort of. It’s a bit more complicated This is a car city or state even. You really need a car here. I know you know what I mean. I wish I could sit down and break bread and have a coffee and discuss this more… God willing next year! That’s my plan! So looking forward to coming to Poland 🇵🇱. So excited! I absolutely loved this video. Sure I love and appreciate all your videos.. but you’re giving me food for thought. Ahhhh see what I did there?? LoL. So much to think about. And in closing..The answer is….. No. my city or cities are NOT better than Warsaw. Who would’ve thought?? Much much love my dears🥰🥰♥️♥️❤️

As someone born in Warsaw in 81 i can say it's is loosing a lot of it's very... "Specific" character BUT there are still districts, where older rules apply and that gives them flavor and very specific feeling - like entering some closed commune with different set of values. I'm quite amazed seeing those values blossom all through the country since war started. It seems that they were too deeply engrained by last generation, that even Twitter alphabet cancel mob got devided. :) Every year i see more and more flags. :)))

"With Warsaw even". It is interesting that so many Americans automatically assume that Warsaw is nothing of interest and are always going straight to Krakow. It is probably due to this conception that since Warsaw was razed to the ground in 1944, it is best to skip it since there are no old things to look at.

Warsaw of 10 years ago ... before Poland - Ukraine Euro 2012 football cup you could still see Ikarus buses in the streets, central railway station was a smelly, dirty place full of drunk homeless. No direct access by car to any highway, or even motorway. It was not entirely clear whether it would be possible to prepare the entire infrastructure: roads, stadiums, railway stations on time. Ultimately it worked.
@maciej3226

Central railway station was a smelly, dirty place in 1989-1995 In the first years of transformation (with homeless ppl and drug addicted sleeping or leaving there). .After that it was again clean and funtional place (after renovation in 1996), so do not lie. 10 years ago it was just renowated again - and modernized at the same time..

Hundreds of drunken bums circling the platforms and corridors. From the side of Aleje Jerozolimskie, in front of Mariott, the bums were sitting / standing in a group of 20+ at the bus stop, throwing a party where normal people were even afraid to approach. This train station was smelly and disgusting roughly from martial law in 1981 - 1982. Or, if you want a slightly more traditional Polish take on fast food, check out one of the many places that do "zapiekanki". @Okonsky There are many Georgians. Are there many people from many countries and nationalities in Poland or in Warsaw? I love to see the diversity and I love to see the many different people living together peacefully and respectfully. In America we try but not all of us. And it is sad. But I just saw a gathering at the White House for Eid. I had never even heard of Eid before maybe last year, when I was watching a television medical drama set in Toronto and the main character was from Syria, and someone who looked basically Canadian walked up to him and said Eid Mubarak. So I can add that to holiday greetings such as Chag Sameach. And Goodwill to all of the peoples who are trying to live peacefully with one another. And special greetings to the people of Poland who accepted and helped, voluntarily, so many of the people who have been victimized by someone who does not want to have peace with others.

Nice video, thank you for making and sharing it with us.)) I'm a Varsovian originally (on my father's side our family has been in Warszawa for several generations even before WW1), but we migrated to the West when I was a child. Yet I still come visit Warsaw practically every year, whenever money allows it, sometimes even more than once a year. My heart is tied to this city with an unbreakable bond, I really want to move back someday. You're right that it's very difficult to find all 4 of these aspects in tandem; in the UK they struggle especially on the food part haha, but when they don't it's usually either too modern or unsafe. The housing is actually surprisingly worse as well: England is a first-world country, but all these terraced houses are flimsy, damp, mouldy, cramped, and have very little greenery. Poland, on the other hand, is a second-world country and has all these intimidating tower blocks from the PRL (especially in a big city like Warsaw). However, these "commie blocks" all come with central heating, sturdy and durable quality, good ventilation, and they were built with people's necessities in mind - there is plenty of open space between each building with greenery, playgrounds, parking areas, etc. Shops, doctors, schools are all within walking distance. It's a greatly underappreciated element of the old state-controlled housing estates in Poland. Anyway, I'm glad you and your partner have found your place in Poland and particularly in Warszawa. It's always lovely to hear stories of people from abroad settling in and falling in love with my old hometown. Hopefully, I'll be able to do the same one day.

When speaking about public transportation you missed a very important piece of it you probably did not yet discover. There is the "Warszawski rower miejski" system in place where you download an app, make a small deposit and can have a bicycle pretty much anywhere you need it. The best thing is that up to 20 mins it's completely free of charge. That's what makes it a real city transportation solution adding to the excellent system we're having here that you described.

Dude, your making me really jealous with these videos!!!! Incredible delicious food and all these ultra POSITIVE points about Warszawa. (I know you are secretly getting paid by the PL government to promote PL 🤣). How's social life for foreign expats - making friends/connections? I'm glad you guys look so happy wondering through the streets. So did you pick a name for the 👶? Next time your in NYC and passing through Williamsburg Brooklyn, let me know, we need to meet up for a good meal - my treat.

I'm from Łódź (Poland) 1. infrastructure - We have it rather good. Our metro/subway is still not ready, but overall public transport is great. Some smaller streets in the middle of the city are often closed for renovations, causing annoying changes in the traffic routes for cars. 2. Food - We also have a lot of international food places here. Most likely to a smaller extent than Warsaw, but it's still large variety. 3. Architecture - Łódź has rather unique architecture on the scale of Poland. We are not like other Polish big cities with old castles etc. Instead, we are the city of factories and the whole city tries to keep that style as we prefer to renovate building instead of destroy and build new ones. We have small modern style areas, but it can't compare to Warsaw. You can still see how the city is evolving, and new cool buildings are appearing (either by being built or by being renovated from something old) 4. Safety - I'm not aware of any differences in this aspect between big cities of Poland. 5. Prices - Warsaw is more expensive to live in than Łódź. It's capitol after all. But you also earn more there. People in Poland tend to dislike Łódź. Even people from here often have some inferiority because of the lack of popular tourist attractions in a form of castles as well and the old buildings that "looks the same all over the city". I disagree. I notice a lot of beauty in my city after living here for 10 years. Architecture is actually really nice, with both the renovated buildings as well as simply well-kept ones. The wall paintings that were added over the decades adds the color to the most unexpected parts of the city. Whenever I notice some street looking uglier than others I get surprised by a sudden huge wall painting balancing it out and possibly even making my day, since even after 10 years I'm discovering more of those paintings as there are hundreds of them. You should visit Łódź when you're free. It's the closest other big city to Warsaw and well-connected, with lots of trains between the two every day.

Naprawdę Polacy mają pretensje do Łodzi?

My friend, you know my opinion about Warsaw (vs my place of birth). Anyway, I have been to the burger place when I was there during the drum camp that I have attended. The burgers were nice indeed. As I said today, you are looking great - the sun is giving you a great smile, Marina is looking great with the suntan - her belly looks cute and she seems like a very happy lady. Polski Fiat was a thing during the communist era. We had a factory that first assembled and later built from scratch these vehicles. Imagine a family of four traveling for the holiday in this car (it was called Maluch in Poland). People were traveling with their luggage on the roof and squeezed inside. Basically it was a car that was more or less the only option - the bigger fiat (125) and later Polonez were available to the richest or dignitaries and party members. Did you know that Tom Hanks was amazed when he saw the Polish Fiat and took a photo next to the car? After that, there was a fundraising and some folks found a well preserved Maluch, fixed it and sent to Tom in the States?

There is a big museum of the WWII. Hel was the longest fighting polish military outpost in 1939. Sopot has the biggest polish pier and crooked house. Wrocław is very nice place to visit especially Stary Rynek/Old Market, which i really huge. Then you can see f.e. the mysterious castle in Książ. Good luck.

Also I am thrilled that you have found an apartment even if it will not be for a month. It is time to be "nesting" soon :-) I have heard that children who are raised in multilingual families speak later than other children, but then they catch up and they are multilingual. It is far from the time to be bringing this up, but I'm thinking of it now and I don't want to forget. I wish that I could have learned other languages when I was young and had more neuroplasticity. It's not that I'm old, But there is a certain time of life when your brain is more attuned to learning languages and your child will have that. Lucky girl. :-)

I agree with you and few ppl here in the comments. Warsaw is an "acquired taste". It gets better the longer you taste it, the more exposure you get to it. The one thing I could never quite find there was the parks and water, being someone who grew up in the northern Poland in the Masurian lake district, I longed for the space, clean forests and lakes while in Warsaw. Things improved tho in the capital. You've got a lovely walkway along the Vistula river these days, even some patches of sand locals refer to as "beach" :D I guess it's better than nothing and definitely better than 20 years ago when I lived there. each time I visit (every few yrs) I am absolutely shocked and amazed at the progress. Be sure to visit the business district with all the new modern tall towers with office space for the yuppies :D Summer offers some magic too, especially when there's world cup or some events of that nature. Go out watch a game or two with some ppl in the various squares while enjoying some food and drink.
