Gizmo Hibiki you give people far too much credit. Most of those who see her as hot agree she was always a woman. While there may be some who like her for being trans and those who genuinely don't care what her original gender was most will say she is a woman and always has been. Personally believe she was always a woman and the trans thing was a PR move gone horribly wrong.

The line from the video shows Vivian saying "Three sisters" then the other sister saying "What three sisters?! You're a *BOY* aren't you?" I don't know if it's sarcasm by the mean sister or not but it made Nintendo of America want to change so Vivian might be a boy.

However, in the Japanese version the "Three Shadows Group" uses the word 魔女たち (majotachi), which refers to a group of sorceresses, i.e. females, words like her, she, and sisters are also used. Unlike most characters that undergo major changes during translation, Vivian maintains her (female) name in both the English and Japanese versions. Beldam often calls Vivian "man", but this could be explained as Beldam's way of insulting Vivian. More telling is that the menu information describes Vivian as a male, though this also could be a joke showing that Mario (who is apparently journaling the adventure, though that's debatable) misheard that Vivian was male. The word "siren" points to this as well, siren being a female Greek creature of beauty who tricked men to their death. However, "siren" is used only in the English script. so yeah she might actually be born a woman and calling her a man wasn't a sign of her being transgender but just a petty insult on an jealous sister's side. who knows, i don't really care. i just don't like false info being spread, but in this case it's hard to tell either way.

This case was more justifiable, though. Even reading the comments in this video alone, most agree the changes were necessary for the most part. Well, besides the case with Vivian. That still remains a hot topic of discussion. And there was something about Poison and "newhalf" but that's beyond me.

Yeah, that's not what this is about. What I care about is the level of quality in Censored Gaming's videos. The Vivian thing has never been been fully covered by any source. Censored Gaming simply just regurgitated what's on the Paper Mario wiki without any further research into the issue, when Vivian's gender has been a debate for years now. This was the chance for them to use whatever extra connections they have, hell they could have easily paid someone, that speaks both Japanese and English, some money to read through the Vivian scenes and give their insight for the video. As for Poison, they used a quote from Ono, a man famous for only saying what people want to hear (And lying about it.). Yet ignored quotes from both the creators of Final Fight which say that she's a woman. It's shoddy work. Much like how in the last list video they said a character was censored in all regions outside of Japan, while showing him uncensored in a region outside of Japan.

Poison especially has been widely regarded as transgender in all of the subsequent games. It's not even up for argument. Sounds like we're just a bit upset that trans characters exist in muh games.

I'm not, as you can see I have no issue with Birdo or Yuan. What I'm upset with is the lack of research. Poison is only regarded as transgender in all ENGLISH games. In fact she's not mentioned as being transgender in a game until Final Fight Revenge, which was made in America. She then didn't show up again until SFxT, in which Akira Yasuda wrote this in the art book: i.imgur.com/2GHa92N.jpg As such, it would be nice to know things like, what does Japanese games say about her? What is her story mode in SFxT in Japanese? It's coming at the video purely from the English speaking audience's perspective, when this isn't something that can be covered solely from the English speaker's perspective. As for retconning Poison. That's fine, they can do what they want, but when the two people involved in creating her are still with Capcom and still say she's a woman, that means she can't be retconned. I'm uncertain of who legally owns the rights to Poison right now, it might be a situation like Karin where someone that isn't Capcom holds the rights, but whoever owns those rights can have the final say, so if it's Ono she's trans if it's Yasuda she's a woman. That's what I'm getting at with my post, this isn't a cut and dry "she's trans" issue Capcom has conflicting reports coming from all over the place and Censored Gaming could very easily gone and done the research. It costs $400 to find out who owns a copyright, now I wouldn't pay that to win an internet argument, but if I was reporting it to make money that doesn't seem like such a big deal. With Vivian, there's no official stance from Nintendo and all we have are a few fan-translated snippets of dialogue which no one can agree the meaning on. Once again, like with Poison, a professional translator costs maybe a couple hundred dollars, they could easily find the budget to do that. But they didn't.
