Especially considering Nuno Bettencourt is only one of the most unbelievably talented musicians ever. They are criminally underrated, probably because everyone thinks "hair band," and they only know the song "More Than Words," which is just really not representative of the rest of their catalog.
Can we take a second and really appreciate the 96 quiet bitter beings riff, I mean how do you even think to do that. Will always appreciate that riff and refer back to it for inspiration
It’s an underrated ozzy track. It doesn’t get the love that anything from the rhoades and zakk wylde era do. Which is a shame bark at the moon is a fantastic track with a great riff.
Well, it is far less praised than things like Crazy Train and even No More Tears, at least with modern radio, so that is likely the logical. There is often a lack of appreciation for the Jack E. Lee days of Ozzy time, so not touching on the two "main" guitarists, Randy and Zakk, makes sense.
Dude! The first time I heard The Leper Affinity, when that riff kicks in, I was absolutely standing there with my mouth open (whilst headbanging of course). I'm so happy that I watched to the end of the video and discovered that your favorite riff is also one of my favorite riffs. Once that riff happens, you know Blackwater Park is going to be a wild and unforgettable ride!
A close second for me on that album is the riff in A Funeral Portrait that happens from 2:00-2:30 in the song... in an album full of amazing riffs, that one in particular always without fail makes me feel something powerful and visceral.
@@frenchthrasher Exactly my thoughts! Although, I didn't know Anthrax had made a cover of it. So I haven't heard it yet. All I know is that Trust don't play the riff that way and I like their version better. In my last cover band they had the song and it was so good (I discovered it at that time) I had to play it as they play it, solo included. Cheers from Southern France mate! 🍻
@@BradleyHallGuitar I was about to say the same... Seems I'm too late! 😉 Also, I didn't expect some Muse even though your pick is awesome. I played it in my first cover band with some others including Hysteria and Stockholm Syndrom. And I expected some Opeth, then I was thinking "not sure if we can call any Opeth riffs 'underrated'", apparently we can! And again, love your pick. The solo started playing in my head right after. 🤘😎🤘 Peace from France mate! 🍻
@@dominikweber4305 no it's not dumb! It's a symbol from an anime named Shingeki no Kyojin, or in english, Attack on Titan. It symbolises obviously freedom, courage, and determination.
LagAvenue hmmm...not sure about that one. I’d definitely say Universal Mind is more popular. However, probably not as common as some riffs you’d hear =D
Amazing video!! We have similar taste👌Glad to see Jason Becker, Emperor, Carcass, Opeth, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Testament, The Darkness, At the Gates, Slayer, Mastodon, Marty Friedman.. . I hope you do the second part of this series. This is a great way to know about other bands. So many suggestions. You are great. Saludos desde España
Awesome compilation, here some suggestions for a part 2: Scorpions: "Sails of Charon" Savatage: "24 Hours Ago", generally speaking, why is nobody talking about the late Criss Oliva when it comes to amazing metal guitarists?! Annihilator: "King of the Kill" XYZ: "Face Down in the Gutter" Nevermore: "The River Dragon Comes" Thin Lizzy: "Massacre" ("Live and Dangerous" version) Crobot:"Welcome to Fat City" Alter Bridge:"Peace is Broken" Accept: "Midnight Mover" Pagan´s Mind: "Intermission" Jorn Lande: "Lonely are the Brave" Armored Saint: "Mess" John Norum:"Distant Voices" Paolo Gilberto´s Racer X: "Miss Mistreater" Symphony X: " Serpent´s Kiss" Teramaze: "Without Red Hands" Skullfist: "Get Fisted" Grand Magus: "Hammer of the North" Richie Kotzen: "Riot"
I would go with Savatage’s Holocaust for an example of Criss Oliva’s ability to create killer riffs. An woefully underrated guitarist and riff machine.
@greekfreak those are some awesome underrated riffs you have listed🤘and when it comes to *part 2 PLEASE atleast *one* of these riffs* : I bet a handful of them *will surprise Bradley and everyone else*: . *curt mitchell* - wool blend (Jimmy page tribute - tone junkie ( evh tribute - enemy (dimebag Darrell tribute . *kings x* - I'll never be the same - far far away - sometimes - in the new age - black the sky - out of the silent planet . *kxm* - burn - I'll be ok - big sky country - never enough - scatterbrain - war of words - vessel of destruction - big as the sun - noises in the sky . *George lynch/ lynch mob* - ghost - vulture - tierra del fuego - flesh and blood - love power from the mama head - jungle of love - the secret . *big wreck* - diggin in (Aadgbe)half step down - voices (same tuning as above^) - control - you caught my eye - all is fair . *venom* - nightmare (whole song has killer riffs but the intro clean acoustic into the verse plus the bridge breakdown riff over Kronos 's bass solo is just pure evil. . *disclaimer* I completely agree with you - I love sabbath and zeppelin the Beatles etc but we all know what whole Lotta love and iron man and day tripper sound like those have been beaten to death in most riff countdown /play through style videos all over RU-vid already!! This is the perfect chance for you to play the *rare gems* and not the songs that everyone is already familiar with : these rare ones I've listed, most have either *never* been heard or covered and *WILL* definitely make you grab your guitar *AND* turn heads enjoy lmk what you think, cheers from Niagara falls Canada! 😊🙏🤘
96 quite bitted things was always my answer for underrated riffs but damn I never thought about how underrated betrayed by a7x is, great video man, defo give me some more things I need to get around to learning
Fucking hell mate. Easily my favourite "underrated riffs" video. About half way through i thought to myself "there better be an opeth riff in here". Wasn't disappointed. Great job. Great playing.
Not sure if stranger in a strange land is “underrated” but it’s easily one of my favorites of all time, I fell in love with that riff wishing 5 sec of first hearing it
So glad you put The Root of All Evil... what an album opener that song is. The riff slams you right in the face. Also And Then There Were None is my favorite Exodus song, the solo is amazing too
I absolutely love that you have Cloudkicker in here. Ben Sharp is a musical genius and is incredibly underrated, plus he his digital downloads are completely free.
Actually, now that I think about it... the title track also has one super-syncopated monster riff in 14/4 (not sure how a schooled musician would count that, I'm sure you can correct me) in its mid-section, right before Loomis starts sweeping that solo out of the galaxy... THAT is my nr.1 favourite Nevermore riff ever, and they only repeat it 4 times and that's it. Do you know what riff I'm talking about? Jeff and Steve play two different versions of it, one palm-muted and one with open strings.
Amazing!!! Watched till the end! My suggestions for the next one: Angra - Nothing to Say Ensiferum - Deathbringer from the Sky Kiko Loureiro - Reflective Symphony X - Anything from the "V" album
Ugghh, I was hoping to you'd play more of "Only Ash Remains"... it's so damn good. 🤤 Also. The Leper Affinity! I was hoping their would be an Opeth riff in here (favorite band), Fuck yeah! I love that riff. Glad it was number 1. Åkerfeldt is a master songwriter and has written so many incredible riffs.
Watched the entire video thinking "damn this dude can play" and that all riffs were great picks. Subscribed immediately upon seeing that riff from Leper Affinity is your favourite of all time because it could very be mine as well! Keep putting out solid content dude!!! Edit: That Ihsahn riff is straight up nasssssty!
Rust In Peace Polaris is one of my favourite riffs ever and definitley very underrated! You should do another video like this I'd love to see some Alter Bridge in there, they have a ton of underrated riffs!
I love that Newborn is first. I’ll play the verse riff from that song and everyone always loves it. Even my lo-fi hip-hop friends will be like “What is that? That’s sick!” I know it’s a few years late and not exactly what you might expect but the riff from The Cure’s song End is astounding. It’s so simple, beginner level really, but the way it twists at your heart is amazing.
Very accurate and precise quick picking fair play to you, but I was admittedly very smug at the timing of 'Get you Back' and 'It's Showtime' reassured me I haven't wasted 15 years of playing lol
@@BradleyHallGuitar I am glad you liked it :D Also, if yo liked that you should definitely check out Vektor Tetrastructural Minds and Annihilator Perfect Virus, they are all kinda similar and kinda different to Xentrix, but they all rock. Also, unrelated to this particular video but related to your channel in general, man you ROCK! Your videos are really just amazing, entertaining and educating, especially your tutorial videos (sweeping tutorial helped me a LOT). You show more skill, better teaching and MUCH more humour than popular yt guitarists, like Stevie T for example, and you deserve much more subs and views, just keep the great work!
I know i'm late to the party, but OMG i waited for any Opeth riff all the video and you delivered at the end with one of my all-time favorites and it was interesting to see we both play it completely different. I fell like Opeth need a whole 50 underrated riffs video of their own
5:00 That riff man. I remember learning it by ear listening to the THPS3 soundtrack, at least I think it was that one. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane bud🤘❤
You should check out Rings of Saturn. I'm usually not a Death metal or deathcore fan, but they manage to meld technical metal with deathcore its perfect. They have a lot of great riffs Edit: OMG I LOVE CLUTCH! THEY DO NOT GET ENOUGH LOVE!!!
The Root Of All Evil was the first DT song I've ever heard and is still my favourite DT riff. You've also included some more of my favourite riffs: Bark At The Moon, Where Do I Hide, Heartwork, Antisocial,... 🤘🎹
Ahhh yes! I was waiting to see a opeth riff in this video, but you saved it to the end :) please make a top ten opeth solos/songs/riffs video! Keep it up! love your content
Paul Gilbert, Jason Becker, Nuno, Syu, Shawn Lane, Petrucci, Bumblefoot, Friedman x2, I think you hit most of the players that make me go wtf voice leading is that? Well done, sir.
Also - Lamb of God - One Gun As I Lay Dying - Condemned Who Cares - Out of My Mind BLS - Trampled Down Below Killswitch Engage - Fixation on the Darkness Blablaa. Great video !
Zr00we Vektor is amazing, one of the few post-2000 bands that get me really excited! I love also Gorod and Obscura, but they are prog death, not thrash like Vektor.
@@user-dn6ht6bo7r I'm just kidding doing my fanboy. ;) But it's really well known that petrucci is invredible and Symphnony X guitarist is just from another world... 😎
