What would you do with 400 bananas? I need to know your favorite healthy recipes for using bananas... and quick before they all ripen! So far, I'm making Natural Banana Chips in my dehydrator (video on that coming soon); Freezing some for smoothies / ice cream; and giving lots & lots away!
Leave a comment or send me your ideas. I'll pick my favorite and share it with everyone... just as long as it's not a secret family recipe (in which case you probably shouldn't be sharing it with me - LOL) :D

They grow like weeds in my back yard... and in most peoples yards here in Hawaii. That's why they can be hard to give away. =) God Bless! ~Erika

I don't know exactly, but it is some sort of Chinese variety that does really well in our backyard. It keeps a sweet, but firm fruit even after it starts to turn brown. Hopefully yours do well! God Bless! ~Erika

Chicken flavored rice and bananas. It's a Puerto Rican and Dominican dish. The salty from the chicken flavoring in the rice and the sweet from the bananas gives it an amazing balance to the pallet. When I make it I just either boil rice in chicken stock (be careful of which stock you use, quite a few tend to have MSG contained) and plate, then cut up bananas (uncooked) on top. So good!!

Freeze the over ripe ones for pudding, breads, muffins, pancakes, and smoothies. Dehydrate what you can. Use the peels to shine up your leather shoes, banana oil is good for that except suede. Compost the waste. You can also freeze the fresh ones for smoothies. Fresh doesn't seem to have as strong as a flavor as over ripened to bake with. Fresh ones go great with bananas foster dessert. Also to cook like plantains. Fried bananas, dipped in corn dog like breading & deep fried. Wish you luck with

@TTTTTURTLE Thanks for the suggestion! Aside from giving over half away, we ended up making lots of smoothies, dehydrated banana, banana muffins/bread, raw ice creams, raw desserts, fresh juices, and even the old classic 'Peanut Butter and Banana' sandwiches. We also threw a 1 year old party for our son and had a 'Banana Split' theme! We're looking forward to our next batch coming in soon! Thanks for the comment... God Bless! ~ Erika

You can chop them into 1- 2 inch chunks and then freeze them in portions so that you can throw them in the blender and make smoothies. Bananas freeze really well. Give some to your local homeless shelters, women's shelters, day shelters. And such. If you are near a busy urban area make a 'free box' and leave it by a library or a walmart. Bananas are great in breads and cookies you can use them as an egg sbstitute in vegan recipes and use less sugar in cookies cakes and breads.

I eat 400 to 500 a month. Hawaii would be heaven to me. I love to freeze them in the summer for raw ice cream, but they should be really ripe when doing so. I make them chewy in the dehydrator, when super ripe. Mostly I eat them fresh throughout the day and throw them in green smoothies. Thx for posting. :)

I am growing mine in zone 8B up in the high desert where it gets to 20F at night daring winter some nights, so far they are doing quite well just bring them in daring the winter and put my fav ones in my bathroom where they get extra extra humidity but I also picked verities for there size and cold hardness and have been told if I cover them with mulch so snow does not get on them I can leave them out daring the winter.

@stardustdragon111 As far as I know, the banana stalks don't produce seeds... Instead, they produce a single pod of bananas and die - but not before 1-3 new baby stalks grow at the base of the mother plant (which ultimately gets chopped down). We've successfully dug up the baby stalks and transplanted them to another yard - so maybe you can find someone that has some they can share? You also need a tropical growing climate & lots of water. Hope that helps! God Bless! ~ Erika

@Alina674 I'm in Hawaii. It's considered Zone 11 since we don't ever experience freezing temperatures. I'm not entirely sure what variety of Bananas we grow (since there are several hundred types), but I do know that it is a Chinese variety and is of a medium length. They are very sweet, and are much tastier than the typical store bought kind. We have a new pod just taking off and I can't wait for them to be done - we managed to consume the last batch in no time at all! :) God Bless! ~ Erika

Sometimes I take banana chips a bit farther, and pulverize into banana powder. Even less storage space than chips. Then I can use it anywhere, baking, smoothies, and my personal guilty pleasure, banana ice cream! Need to make sure powder is really D-R-Y, or you end up with banana brick stuck in the bottom of a jar. I live with humidity, so I put powder back into dehydrator for a final, final drying. Its not a pretty powder, a khaki-brown, and I will confess to dressing it up a bit with some Wilton dry yellow food color (gasp!). Also, having just made pumpkin pie fruit leather, I can envision a similar leather with coconut. Cinnamon & nutmeg are great with bananas.

Very easy - there are plenty of places where you can donate food - just give them what you won't be using.

Did you know that if the bananas ripen on the plant they tast even better, thats because thats when they start to pull the sugars from the plants, in fact thats true with all fruits I know it's true because I've done the test to tast it for myself. I live on an island were bananas are used in many dishes, you can boil them when they are still green and eat them with olive oil and some fish, like tuna or other types of fish you may like.

@soymilkduh Aloha! I didn't buy them... they grow wild in my back yard! :) Sometimes more than one pod will be ready at the same time and we can't give them away fast enough. We try to get creative, but you can only eat so many before they go bad. God Bless! ~ Erika

Let me get this straight....a young woman is asking for advice on the INTERNET about what she should do with her BANANA harvest? She then says she'll "do it online" in a video afterwards if she finds the right suggestion?
