That's some great turning Lock Noob. I'd be very interested to see your lathe. Finding centre must be a challenge all of its own. I'm guessing its a watchmaker's. I'm also guessing you have a powerful magnifying glass!

I'm seconding this request. I took a peek at your channel history and didn't see anything about how you make these :( Really tiny machining seems like it'd be full of interesting nuances, if perhaps a little tricky to film. edit: Ah, found it. "Milled using a dremel and then hand finished". That's less exciting, but certainly more practical, than I was hoping

@goldenking2046
@goldenking2046 4 года назад
@Jacob Mayes That is actually just a "pin". A skewer is the opposite scenario: ex. if the queen were behind the king and the king was in check by the bishop, you are forced to move the king(if there are no other ways to remove the check) but that automatically leaves the queen open to capture.
@Keldor314
@Keldor314 4 года назад
Definitely a lot of pining going on inside this lock! The pawn is pinned to protect the queen, moving the queen will skewer the bishop, and the bishop is pinned to protect the rook! Unless it's attacked from the other direction. Then the rook causes the bishop to be skewered, the bishop is pinned to the queen, and moving the queen causes the least satisfying skewer of all time whereby a pawn is lost.

First off another great video. I have to tell you I wish he didn't send the note to tell you to use light tension, which I believe is not the way you usually start a lock, I mean maybe it would have tàken a extra 15 seconds or so but either way I would have been curious. Keep up the good work, your videos have gotten me reinvigorated to the lock picking hobby, although tough to lock pick for long sessions when your hands are arthritic. I do find my self enjoying taking a fairly ordinary lock and messing with it to make it more difficult to pick,as I sure others do also to, it also teaches me more about the lock. Fills the COVID-19 downtime.

What if someone makes a lock with both pin alignment and a combination in one: the key has a core and a shell. The core turns throughout half the revolution, spinning the key pins around to align them in the direction they must be in to slide past the driver pins, then the shell turns throughout the second half, like a normal lock/key

just noticed i have that same vice. pretty nifty, not crazy about the suction bottom. I usually clamp it in a bench vice to use the top half

The ultimate duel: Two lock pickers are given a bunch of locks with Chess and Checkers pieces like this, and have to pick all the locks to have a complete set. Whoever has a full set of Chess/Checkers pieces first gets a point. Then they face off in a game of Chess and a game of Checkers, each game counting for a point. Then they have to put all the locks back together again, *working,* and whoever does so first gets another point. Whoever has the most points wins!

Do you think prior knowledge of whats inside it made it any easier, or did the pin shape just not complicate things? Did they just behave like spools?
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 7 лет назад
+Spring Bloom Just an easy pin. Knowledge didn't really help. Like spools or drunken spools.
