@@atanasdimitrov6469 In Gates to Infinity, we see pretty much a birth of a new Chaos God of Despair (Bittercold), along with the cult, who tries to help to bring it to life, so it can destroy this wretched world and give a chance of something new and better to be born afterwards (like cults of pleasure in the old Aeldari Empire). Yeah, we kill it, but it was right on the cusp of its proper awakening, and good guys had human getting isekai-ed here (humans are like untouchables for Bittercold). For bonus points, this human was not the first one to get here - just the first one to be lucky enough to survive. For his/her predecessors, it was a meatgrinder.

In the game of thrones books, where the throne is not just a spiky chair like in the show but a huge abomination of molten and bent blades like 7 m tall; one of the kings in the past died that exact way, slipping and falling on the many swords that made up the throne.

@@LeriHunter Not really - he had the idea, but the Imperial Cult developed independently. LIke it or not, the Emperor IS a god - in the Warhammer world, a "god" is a being that has great power over the warp. If Slaanesh can be called a god then so too can the Emperor by any consistent standard

Why wouldn’t they be sacrificed? Seems like they were unworthy Also after rewatching it, none of the aspirants are armored while the word bearer in the center of the ritual is armored, so maybe they all knew what was going to happen if they were found to be unworthy. It’s also just a cinematic made to be shocking, so in-world reasons for them all getting killed off might not have been as important as that shock factor

That actually is something I’ve wondered for years now. With the rate they get killed off, there’s no way that Chaos Space Marines are only made when current Astartes are corrupted. It wouldn’t make sense for them to not test out regular humans for genetic implants. I still wish that GW would go into this process more, and give us some named characters with their entire stories.

It looks like there was a vast group of aspirants (not necessarilly Captains), assembled and waiting on a Daemon to select ONE of them to rise and become a Chaos Space Marine. With a bunch of Daemons of various types - it looks like at least one Khornate daemon and something resembling a Flamer of Tzeentch - waiting to feast upon the others. Personallly I do NOT like those odds, but hey, I'm not an insane follower of the Dark Gods.

find it so crazy to think about that when on the ground losing 10 space marines is a heavy blow because of how hard it is for them to make new chaos marines. Yet when the ships are fighting in space, when one blows up it takes like a good 500-1000 if not more of them in a split second. Just crazy to think how many die without even making it to the battlefield.
