To give a long, but simple answer: because madness is always contradicting itself. It would not be Chaos, if it´s followers weren´t chaotic. They are hostile to each other because, to quote one of the greater daemons of Tzeentch, "the Gods of the Warp require them to", just as they require every other faction to be violent and hostile, wrecking havoc upon their enemies and one another, leaving only anarchy in their trail. It´s all part of the Greater Game; the Ruinous Powers feast upon the conflicts of every mortal, be it their followers or their enemies. They can, however, forge alliances with one another, for personal gain ... or while just following a whim. You can´t predict the Chaos, thus the option of forming alliances must be possible. If not, Chaos worshippers would become predictable. In other instances, Chaos can become predictable, because no one would predict that they would be predictable. Abaddon´s Black Crusades are a good example. They are almost like seasons of wether; heck, how many times did he try to conquer the imperium already? 17 times? Can´t remember anymore, damn often at least. Last but not least, the worshippers of Chaos try to impress their daemonic patrons by commiting violent and .... otherwise sinister acts I don´t want to describe further. They fight among themselves to proof their worth to the Ruinous Powers. And, of course, to entertain these dark masters, like gladiators in old Rom. In essence, Chaos is selfcontradicting. It has to be. Or it could be. Or maybe, it sometimes will be, other times it won´t. Hard to tell, it´s unpredictable after all. You surely get what I´m trying to express.

In regards to the order and time period of their awakening it is detailed in the book Realms of Chaos: Lost and the Damned book and also supported in the Codex Chaos 2nd edition, the order of the Gods had not been retconned from anything I could find. In regards to the war in heaven creating them (the necron version not the craftworld version. I know its awkward when there's two separate events with the same name) This is partially mentioned in Codex Necrons 5th edition when the war in heaven resulted in numerous warp entities being created and beginning to take form as a result from the conflict, but mentioned in more detail in the 3rd edition Necron Codex where it states that the emotions of the old ones creations (Krork, Aeldari etc) began to manifest themselves within the warp towards the end of the war in heaven, and what entities did exist within the warp had changed into new forms becoming creatures that consume souls. It's also important to note that unless something new/recent has come out to contradict it old lore is still canon (as Gav Thorpe himself stated when he was on our podcast on Tactica Imperialis channel)

Internet Zen Master If new lore contradicts old lore, then it is a retcon that supercedes older lore, but only if said contradictory lore is confirmed as being factually canon; the canonicity of all other unconfirmed instances are left open to debate as they may be the result of poor writing or part of an attempt, deliberate or otherwise, to obfuscate the true canon.

Most Chaos Space Marines have spent 10000 hiding out in the Eye of Terror. Thats a little like licking a nuclear reactor constantly for 10000 years. CSM gene seed is mostly too flawed and tainted to be salvaged.

The part about Chaos geneseed being "corrupted beyond usefulness" was slightly retconned into being much less likely to be useable, but still can still sometimes be viable.

Nuffle because he is ironically the most powerful of all Chaos Gods. As the game itself is played using dice. Also because I like the absurdity of the Blood Bowl universe.

Horned Rat because he is secretly a clone of the god emperor and created the skaven and the underempire as a corrupted image of the species and imperium he cared for after falling to his darker more chaotic side. The Skaven Underempire is a grossly exaggerated version of the imperium with the horned rat being the leader with final say over his species while only ever acting in times of great importance like the emperor along with the fact he also has his own personal throne like the god emperor. Clan Skyre is the Adeptus Mechanicus. Clan Moulder is the Adeptus Astartes due to the Rat Ogres and Stormfiends wearing power armor and wielding Astartes grade weaponry while being genetically enhanced super soldiers with strength and size being similar if not superior to the space marines. Clan Eshin is the officio assassinorum. Clan Pestilens is the ecclesiarchy. Clan Mors is the Astra Militarum. The gray seers are the inquisition, Ecclesiarchy, and Adeptus arbites as they are the main religious body of the skaven and ensure the horned rats word is followed with utmost force.

The Aeldari could always fall to Chaos, there's even some in Atlas Infernal

40K Theories oh, from what i know if they join Chaos, they automatically die since Slaanesh consumes their souls. I never saw a Chaos Eldar. Iguess they would be just like the Dark Eldar
