I'm sorry for this negativity but the "Sisters of Silence" only exist because GW wanted to have a new "cool" army for players to buy. Before the Sisters of Silence existed, it was the Sisters of Battle who were guarding the Black Ships. Also there simply would not be enough female blanks to form a single army. Blanks are extremely, extremely rare and to cut the tiny blank number in half due to gender... Not clever. Also to have the Sisters communicate by hand motion on a battlefield, that is very impractical (could you vox that wave?), again not clever. And to have Sisters of Silence populate the Imperial Palace is pure idiocy. Sisters of Silence drain psychic power from the environment while the Emperor is reliant on psychic power to survive. Do people not see the paradox of the Sisters' "protection" of the Emperor? I'm sorry for the negativity but honestly who thought that the "Sisters of Silence" concept overall was a good idea? We might as well introduce Grox chariots and create entire armies of those exploding frogs.

They ought to expand upon the lore of the SoB. For all intents and purposes, they don't seem to be diverse to me. A little more motives aside from "Purge the heretic!" Would be nice.

What you need to remember is that the sororitas are derived from the brides of the emperor which originally was a religious cult. Emps would have stamped that out long ago if he could have bute G-O-G-E Vandire basically tricked them, they got folded into the ecclesiarchy. They are for all intents ans purposes. Nuns. With. Guns. The sisters of silence were founded around the same times as the legions so they dont have rhe religious brainwashing.

for as much as blanks fucks up psykers, extremely powerful ones (like Emperor, THE most powerful one in the galaxy) can still use their powers around them. so at the most hundreds os sisters together might at the most give the Emperor an annoying headache, but nothing that would make him weaker at all.

As far as I remember, he was just fine in their presence. The blanks are merely resistant to psychic powers, while the pariahs have more "aggresive" effects against psykers. And even then, it would be needed a lot of them to harm the Emperor or even inconvenience him. Funny thing, the SoS were one of the few persons who, thanks to their anti-psychic abilities, could see the true appearance of the Emperor. They saw a completely normal man of unremarkable appearance.

In fairness in 7th edition they and the Custodes had separate codecies in the Talons of the Emperor box set.

From what I understand Astartes can be blanks (See: Captain Titus of the Ultramarines) but it is rather rare. Then again, that's kinda what homebrew stuff is for. Maybe something to the effect of it being a mutation of the chapter's gene-seed or something to that effect would be able to explain it.

An Astartes can be made into a blank (like with the Grey Knight Ferrymen), but a blank can't be made into an Astartes as the geneseed implantation process will kill them. But if they've already undergone their transmutation, then they can be turned into blanks artificially.

I was thinking that one of the lost primarchs was made a blank. Hey the primarchs were more or less daemon princes the Emperor made with whatever he stole from the chaos gods, wouldnt put it past him to figure out how to do the process, but without a soul, so this primarch may have been the last one he constructed. And how the sisters of silence come to play, well, to make a long story short, it boiled down to this primarch not wanting their troops to be heroes for hire for the other legions, so this primarch had a big hand in the creation of the order, some of the original sisters being former serfs to some marines whos powers were perticularly potent.

Keep in mind the ludicrous scale of the 40 k universe. If there's .00001% chance for a null to exist, and there's 20 billion people on a hive world that still means roughly 2,000,000 nulls exist on a planet. Half are female, say half get found by the Astra telepathica, and you've got roughly 500,000 possible recruits or draftees

That women have a hard time surviving the geneseed augmentation (which already kills a ludicrous amount of people) is that the overwriting DNA of the Geneseed that will eventually make the Astarte behave and look more like their Primarch, is that all known Primarchs are male. Therefore the overwriting can cause even more extreme organ failures and all that nonsense in women than it can in men. That is the lore explanation as far as I'm aware, technically women could survive it, they just have a really low chance of doing so.

Yeah. Have you played Soulstorm? By far that's the only W40k game that I have access to.

Depends on the group. Both The sisters of battle and the sisters of silence have rules about men joining (one as part of being allowed to exist and the other for unknown traditional reasons) so the *ahem* budges can simply be part of the armor (one size fits all and all that) while you could also say that it is symbolic (especially with the Sisters of battle) of their role of being 'the daughters of the emperor'. At least that's what I've been able to find on the subject.
