Not only is he a HOF player he's a retired supreme court justice for the state of Minnesota which is truly remarkable this man really is a role model for any person and should always be remembered not just for his play but for his character.

@TorgoFraNorgo

And the second was the greatest defensive player of all time. Where did LT rank on the list, I wonder? He (LT) probably deserves to be top five, but with these lists there's always an offense bias, and then a QB bias on top of that. Edit: I see LT was #3. I'm surprised. That sounds about right. But I do agree that #43 is probably too low for Page.

One thing people often forget about Alan Page was that, while finishing his career with the Chicago Bears, not only was he still one of the very best at his position, but he actually was a mentor for a number of players on what would be one of the most dominant defenses in NFL history, the Bears defense of the mid-80s. Among his teammates in Chicago in his final season (1981) were Steve McMichael, Dan Hampton, Otis Wilson, and a rookie middle linebacker by the name of Mike Singletary. All four of them were major contributors on the defense that dominated the 1985 playoffs, with Singletary as the undisputed leader on the field, and I have to think that having Page as a teammate could only have helped them understand the pro game a little quicker than they might have normally.

They also let Ed White go that year, and all he did after the Vikings let him go was to play seven or eight more years in San Diego as part of the offensive line that helped Air Coryell become the greatest offense in NFL history at that time, and one that teams still copy from to this day.

3:15 This kinda attitude is something everyone should realise. Yes of course, winning a super bowl is a massive achievement but so many players are basically ignored in the list of the greats just because they never won a super bowl. In Alan Page's words, 'It's just another football game' players shouldnt have their careers tainted just because they didn't win a championship when its a team game.....

If you saw Alan Page play, you would know that he is one of the best to ever play. When he won MVP in 1971, I couldn't believe it because I thought that it was restricted to offensive players. He deserved it that year and was just as good in other years.

Pure class, nothing but integrity. I wrote to tons of NFL stars back when I was a kid in the 1970s. Most of them actually did write back, and sent autographed photos. Alan Page did too, but he also wrote me a very nice letter about staying in school and so on, and, if I recall correctly, I think he may have also sent me a brochure about the Supreme Court. One of my greatest regrets in life is that at some point when my parents moved my entire autograph collection was lost. Alas, I do still have the memories.

He came from a family who valued education and never forgot where he came from. He was fiercely independent and marched to his own drummer. Truly a gifted athlete and human being on so many levels. He has helped many young people through his college scholarship fund, and other charities. You would think that being a college and pro football hall of famer would be the ultimate ceiling in one’s life. But for Page it was just merely a part of his life on his way to becoming a lawyer and a member of the Minnesota Supreme Court. He is the achiever that we should want ourselves and our children to be. When he says the Super Bowls were just another game and that life goes on, he believes that and he’s right..
