Today I demonstrate how to use the Hydrostatic Transmission Treadle Pedal on my Kubota B2601 compact tractor and the Twin Touch on the John Deere 1023E. This is not a "Treadle Pedal vs Twin Touch" video or intended to determine which system is better, but seems that some may not know the various way to use the Kubota Treadle Pedal. Thanks for watching.

Hi Ed. Just wanted to send a thank you for this video. About 6 months ago started researching small tractors....to help with my dead and dying ash trees as a result of the Emerald Ash Borer. Im tired, getting old, have taken down about 30 large ash trees with simple old fashioned tools and procedures. Hoping a tractor will give me a helping hand...help save my back.. with another 40 trees that need to be taken down.... I reside in Southern Ontario, Canada. I must say that this treadle pedal video was one of the very very most important videos in my months of researching...along with watching Tractor Time with Tim, GP Outdoors, Messicks to name a few of my favourites. My old, old cub cadet riding mower has the two pedal forward reverse like Johnnys. I have been driving this cubby for 20 years, and was, and still am, concerned I would have difficulty changing to a treadle pedal Kubbie. None the less, your video was a little comforting to me and I ended up putting a down payment on something orange! I went tractor shopping....1025R and BX23S. In my area, Johnnies were quoted at $6000 more than the comparable Orange Kubbies!!!. I wasnt real impressed with the Green Salesman and the dealership was 30 minutes away. I was impressed with the Orange salesman, the dealership is 10 minutes away and I have done business with them before. So, I took the $6000 extra and moved up to a B2601 TLB orange Kubbie. Presently anxiously awaiting delivery with hopes these troubled times dont hold it up too much. R14 tires, 3rd function etc are all back ordered, but dealer is expecting basic tractor delivery sometime this month..hopefully. Thanks again for your efforts and time in posting your vids. Im sure my size 15 boot will quickly become accustomed to the treadle pedal and soon be just like riding a bike. Oh by the way, your channel is the second channel I have ever subscribed to. Thanks Ed.

Thanks very much for this thoughtful comment, Keegan. As I said in the video, the dual pedal is definitely convenient but shouldn’t be a deal breaker. I think you’ll be very happy with the B2601! Congrats, thanks for subscribing, and please keep in touch. I’ll enjoy hearing about your experiences with the B2601. The channels you mentioned are surely among my favorites too! Hope you’re able to catch my livestreams. Take care. -Ed

I have watched so many of your videos I feel like we are friends - lol ( I do real estate videos for Hawaii and get the same response sometimes) So I don't feel bad ,,,, completing disagreeing with this video, although I am new to tractors, I did have an old JD for a few months before purchasing my Kubota. Doing my homework, both are awesome tractors, but the forward/reverse transition is way, way, better on the JD d- more "natural" . I find myself constantly having to "think" about finding reverse (its just not natural) and the amount of downforce required for reverse is 2-3 fold of what is required on the JD. So, all said, the both are awesome tractors, equal in most aspects so far, but the JD is superior in the forward/reverse aspect - in my humble opinion. Thanks again, your videos are awesome and I am learning alot for you - Mahalo my friend. Maybe I should note, I am on extreme hills, elevation changes and sometimes I have to back up a 100 feet or so , just to get to safe spot to turn around with my load and go in a different direction.

In the 70's massey Ferguson had a backhoe loader that had 3 pedals. Left was for foward right was for reverse and the middle one was smaller and was for neutral throttle to raise the loader quicker. It was shape like a horse shoe. Thats why i lke the 2 pedal over the threadell. Glad to see your making video again.

i like the hybrid thumbnail image. I could see like GM and Ford working on their 10 speed transmission, that some day Kubota and Deere could work on a side by side tredle pedal where it could be right and left for forward and reverse. press right to go forward and left to stop and reverse. The tractor industry could adopt some automotive standards like power shuttles on the right of steering column to change forward and reverse rather than the left side. It seems they would be designed that way they are to conform to countries that drive on the left side of the road with controls on the right side of the vehicle. that would be fine for Europe and some Asian countries, but in our part of the world where we drive on the....RIGHT side of the road LOL! it would seem more normal to put the shuttle lever on the right of the column and the turn signals on the left side and climate controls on the right side of the cab and steering column. Put the twin pedals on the right as forward and the left as reverse. Yeah the Ag industry could learn a thing or two from the automotive industry for sure. it would make the learning curve on tractor operations a bit simpler and quicker.
@MyClutteredGarage
@MyClutteredGarage 3 года назад
There's definitely a benefit to standardizing controls. Imagine if front-end loader controls were not standard? Thanks for the comments!

Excellent video and explanation. I’m researching tractors right now for our new property and was hearing negative things about the treadle pedal. I was really eyeing a kubota as the closest tractor dealership of any kind is a dealer, plus JD is quite a bit more pricey! I’m sold on the design, I actually feel I would get the forward and reverse backwards often on their design.

My Ford LGT16D has a treadle pedal design, but it's old school as in a rocker, not as nice as a Kubota, but happy it's not a John Deere 80's era hand hydro. And you are right Courtney with GWT had pointed out that JD put them on the wrong sides. I haven't had an issue, but it's probably just cause I learned it that way.

I agree on your usage, although I do find that if I'm doing small, precision back-ups (like 3-point implement hook-up) on my LX2610 I use the "lift the toe under the pedal" method. I can't do it for extended time but I find I have more control. (This is probably also because I have spent a lot of time on a Harley with a heel/toe shifter, not to mention my big ol' feet! ;-) )

Cut an inch or two off the bottom of your garage door and add a piece of heavy rubber to the bottom. If it's heavy enough rubber mice and critters can't get in but the rubber will give when open and close if there is snow or other obstructions . Plus rubber won't rot out like the bottom of the door if the wood touches the ground and always wet.

Very useful video. Drove my new B2601 for the first time today, moving implements that were de. livered with it. I found the pedal stiff, especially in reverse and hope it loosens. Have written down a lube that's supposed to help, but it's probably break in. I have a JD rider with the twin pedals and like them. I don't get the confusion with JD, since the brakes ARE on the far left. But I have gotten the wrong pedal placing my foot wrong. I look down sometimes to make sure. Not necessary on the Kubota.

Good discussion and explanation of the hydro peddles available. I have both systems. NH TC33D with treadle and RK24 with 2 peddle. I have no preference. The treadle has one disadvantage that bugs me: when the dirt/mud/snow/apples/pine cones gets under the rear and I can't push it down to move backwards until I get off and pull all the junk out from under the treadle. Additionally, I have pressed the wrong peddle on the 2 peddle tractor and either gone forward or backward when I really didn't want to. Neither issue is a deal breaker for me though. I'm currently shopping for a new tractor and the hydrostat system of forward/reverse isn't on my list of positives or negatives.

I am one that believes if Kubota offered a choice between the 2 styles, they would be going away from the treadle pedal in rather short order. I have both. I have the twin pedals on a Deere and I have the treadle pedal on my Kubota GR2120. I absolutely love this machine. It will mow circles around my Deere GX335, and that is saying something. Deere builds a really fine quality mower. When I bought my Kubota L2501, I got the gear drive. It wasn't because of the treadle pedal, but that did play a small part. You are right about the forums Ed. This seems to be the biggest gripe, if you will, about Kubotas.

I don't see why all the fuss about the pedal. I slide my foot just a few inches forward or backward and can easily operate the pedal and my foot is always in contact. Period. No lifting of my leg or foot required, no need to try a heal-toe from the floor board, no awkward twist, no finding the pedal with my foot. Works for me.

I have a Kubota and my father has a John Deere and whenever I get on his tractor it seems like starting over ever time. The pedal don't bother me I just find myself looking for the arrows on the pedals on the Deere. To engage the pto my Kubota has a lever the Deere has a button sort of, and the deere if you go in reverse will cut the pto out and maybe motor too, can't remember, where as my Kubota can go in reverse with a brush hog or whatever. Heck even my poulin lawn mower can mow in reverse if the key is in the right setting c'mon Deere. Haha jk. It works out though cause I have a Kubota l3940 and my dad has a John Deere 1023e both with loaders so kind of like we each have two tractors depending on the job and size needed.

I just bought a new b2601 and I’m a newb, but I had a b7800 years ago. I find the fwd part of the pedal fine but I also feel like I need to push the pedal “thru the floor” to get going.
