ive been watching this chanell for a few years now and the 1 thing ive noticed the best thing you guys have added to your shop besides the new shop and tools is Charles that young man has smarts and enthusiasm in spades.
@@Rattus-Norvegicus okay take Ike and Charles out= no content unless you want to learn about the plasma table. John knows nothing about engines he takes measurements and inputs them into a computer that already has the software to do so. Anyone can edit a video bud
5:16 "Instructions unclear, beard caught in fan" HAHA I wish everyone had that same random goofy sense of humor as you Charles! Great builder, and best addition to the team!
It does my heart good, seeing all you young guys doing this kind of stuff. It gives me great hope your generation is getting into the "nothing is impossible" kind of mindset, and doing it yourselves. Kudos to you guys! Very much looking forward to your next video.
"Instructions Unclear, Beard caught in fan." "I'm Exhausted." *Lifts exhaust* "Hotter than a Steil chainsaw in an East Tennessee pawn shop." Charles is a Treasure lol. BTW, just weld a tab of metal to the rollcage to hold up the headrest on the seat, and you'll be able to keep the driven pulley out of your back lol.
You need to deglaze those clutch sheeves.steel wool and some carb clean works wonders! So if that is the original carb,it would b jetted very rich with the stock jetting.reason why is those engines were jetted for the cold temperatures. Cold air = more of it,therefore more fuel is reguird.it needs to b leaned out.that thing should rip up to high rpm very quickly. A light golden brown spark plug is what your looking for.it should turn 8000 rpm when jetted correctly. So those belts should also b cleaned in hot soapy water before they ate used.they have a mold release chemical on them from the manufacturer. It causes the clutch sheeves to glaze over and it hurts performance.rode and worked professionally on snowmobiles for over 30 years.
Really loving the builds, banter, general conversations, task pertinent information, jokes, driving/racing and camaraderie. Y’all gents make a great team and an absolutely entertaining video👏
Love when all these youtubers are just wildly guessing at gear ratios. It's pretty trivial to calculate what the effective gear ratio was in the snowmobile that engines came from and translate it to a go-kart to get in the ballpark. Most snowmobiles of that era use a 2.52" track pitch and usually between 7-10 teeth on the drive sprockets. So effectively the snowmobiles 'tire' is 7x2.52" to 10x2.52" in circumference. So that's ~5.5 - 8" in diameter. Snowmobile chaincases are usually somewhere around 2:1 ratio. So if you roughly triple the effective circumference of the drive wheel by going from say an 8" diameter snowmowbile sprocket to a 16" diameter tire, you need to reduce your gear ratio by 1/3. So from 2:1 to 6:1.
Probably be a good idea to just get a full gasket/seal kit with new piston rings, wrist pins, needle bearings etc. It'd make that thing a beast again for sure. Awesome work as always! 😎
I love the random Charles comments! Sad that it puked a seal, but....she was really moving out good. I think there's a lot left in that combination, it'll be fun to watch you guys get er' dialed!
John - "That's the key to a 49 second lap" Isaac - "48 seconds sir" I love the whole crew for sure the trio is perfectly matched! But if I'm being honest I probably wouldn't watch as much if Issac wasn't on this channel. Just gonna throw it out there. Lol definitely my favorite channel on RU-vid! ❤️❤️❤️
Mr. Smith you will not find a bigger fan of Issac than me . I've watched these guy's from the start . I've seen John grow in ability by leaps , he's like a sponge at taking on info on what he's passionate about . Issac has been the best tutor I've ever seen on you tube , and then there's Charles an all around fix it guy , if there's a problem , he will figure out a way to fix it .T he best trio on youtube .
Im excited to see the video on replacing the crank case seal! I've got 2 two-strokes in an Argo 6x6 and a max ii 6x6 that both need crank case seals and bearings so that video will be perfect!
Love the 440 Murray! I recommend running 100 octane LL(low lead) av-gas. I have a 74 Yamaha 360 and got tired of burning pistons on 92 octane BP gas. With the 92 it would warm up and ping to beat the band. Switched to 100 LL and never heard a ping again and it always ran cool. Heat after a certain point is definitely the enemy!
They don't seem to care I guess... on the video where Ike pointed out and said it was no big deal, the comments absolutely roasted him for it... and they just glazed over it. Honestly its frustrating seeing them ignore the obvious issue.
A few things to consider.. Rear axle "chain adjustment" can be done by making the swing-arm length adjustable. (IE. Axle or main swing arm attachment point.) The jack-shaft chain can have a skateboard wheel on a piece of all thread, kind of like an automobile belt tensioner. As for the gearing, top speed will be attained with a 21t lower jackshaft/front sprocket and a 42 tooth rear axle sprocket. The upper jackshaft sprocket should be 17t and the lower power transfer sprocket should be 39t. Engine max RPM should be between 7500-8500 and is set in combination using the weight of the magneto and the weights in the clutch. The engine engagement speed is determined by the stiffness of the primary clutch spring. 3800-4500 is good. The secondary clutch is akin to gears, in a constant velocity transmission, the tension in the secondary will allow for adjusting low end torque by increasing to keep the gear lower during the powerband. But it will affect top end if tightened too much.
Hey guys! I live in Kamloops British Columbia, Canada (above Washington). Have watched y'all for about 5 years now, and every single year I want to come down to mini mayhem sooo bad with my projects, it's just a 65 hour drive lol. One day I'll meet you guys in person, but for now, love y'all and keep up the awesome content! 🤙🤙
That motor was made for a snowmobile its air cooled but you are running at much higher temps so its not getting enough air to cool it because it sits behind your seat, you may have to duct it with air scoops on both sides of your seat.
Well done gents! That kitty engine aint done yet! Those are tough ole sled engines. Ive had 2 of em and they always bounce back. Love the hot wheels in the rafter behind Johns head during the closing of the video!
"Cauae i done blowed it up!" Looking like u from night at the roxbury... you guys are awsome would love to share some of my builds with u guys.. keep it up
Tramoline springs, blown seal too much back pressure on the exhaust and get you a new set of piston rings and start over. Try running a 16 to 1 fuel mix to keep your rings lubed and cool, I haven't seen enough smoke comming out of the 2 cycle to say your getting enough oiling to the internal parts.
That mixed with running full tilt for most of track circuit with no real rpm limiter. I know dirt bike motors weren’t made to run full tilt like that so I can’t imagine snowmobile are either
16:1 fuel ratio ? Are you on drugs ? Running a 2 stroke at that fuel ratio will choke it. The most you will ever need to run a 2 stroke is at 40:1 fuel/oil mix and the engine will last a long time.
With todays 2 stroke oils, the way they are made, its designed to run at 40:1 or 50:1. Back in the 60's and 70's, the oil was designed to run at 16:1 to 25:1
I’m surprised all y’all right arms aren’t 10 inches in diameter with all your pull start motors Really enjoy your videos, the energy all 3 of you bring and the smooth editing Also should make the shed skid a thing. First rip is WOT out of the shed
Funny when Ike talking about that dual sprocket hub that crossfire 150 has it already. They use it on drive axel to strengthen chain so under torque it doesn't break it. I said what the heck when I seen it but did make sense after all
could try and run a brace between both your rear shock mounts and put some adjustment holes to find where the leverage over the shock isn't too stiff but isn't slamming the ground.
Hope to see you guys build some jumps on the track! Or a separate track that is just jumps. Time attack is cool and all, but flying through the air never gets old lol
in some of their older video you can see them launching cars and carts across the driveway from one side to the other..i mean it's not like hang time jumps but then again that is too dangerous ..not like they are on dirt bikes
I say this was pretty cool for explaining things to everyone about what you were doing and why. The couple of background setups that a few of the guys do is pretty funny beyond Isaac or the end with both down on the floor goofing off. There is one very big thing I really wanted to point out to you guys to really think about after watching the grand Prix laps for a while now. I really do not want to see one of you guys hurt gain as Isaac did with the 4-wheeler where he was in the cast for a few months. Your finish line as you guys come across at speed. You have all those cars parked in front of the big shop and next to the smaller one also. I keep watching and waiting for someone to crash into one of them and get hurt. How about moving the parking area on the side of the shop by the big door which would get things out of the way to prevent something from happening and there is lots of room there to stash things. That and the other thing I was waiting for Isaac to crash into the red Volvo wagon many times screaming around also. I see a few things in the background that may or may not be cool projects around. What is up with that red wagon? Is that a baby vette next to the old shop in white? The carport for the tine truck and the caddy looks very nice for the setup. What is the little black go-kart shiners Model T at the end of the video on the floor? That could be fun for something? Parades with some toys and it that you guys are doing? hahahha.
Hey guys. I've been watching you for years and still loving your content. Thankyou. Would you please consider miking everyone up to better balance your voices. It's a little thing that would improve and make your videos more profesh. Cheers
I would love to see you guys take the cross kart you guys built the 2nd one. With a tilitson 225 30hp swap on it. A great handling kart already with that crazy of an engine sounds like a good time!
Couple things to consider. Sled engines need more fuel to run in the summer. Look into tuning your clutches because you're only getting 2/3ish of that kawasakis rpms out of it. That belt WILL go thru the seat if it pops. Get that old Kawa spinning all the way up and give it a bunch more fuel and you will have to gear it down cuz it's way too fast!
THAT ARTIC CAT 440 MADE BY HEAVY INDUSTRIES ..I HAD A 1973 PANTHER AND IT WAS PRINTED IN THE BOOK 30W MOTOR OIL FOR THE MIX OF 40:1 BUT GRAMPA RAN IT 32:1...NEVER NEEDED A REBUILD KIT IN THE 20+ YRS IT WENT THROUGH THE FAMILY..AND IT HAD 2 CARBS GREAT TOUGH MOTOR..NEED MORE OIL TO HELP KEEP THE ENGINE COOL IN THE SUMMER DONT MIX IT UP FOR WINTER USE SINCE ITS OIL MIX WOULD BE LEANER FOR THE COLD..NICE WORK GUYS!!😁😁
Your tuning issues might be resolved by returning the exhaust/expansion chamber system back to the way it came from the factory. It looks like a short section of "header pipe" was added. This addition affects the timing of the pressure waves that the system was designed to match the port tuning and both, scavenge the burnt exhaust gasses and keep the fresh air/raw fuel mix from exiting the combustion chamber.
I had an idea for welding sprockets maybe a jig holding the shaft, on the opposite side a sprocket with a chain to a slow electric motor to spin it and get a perfect weld around and no warping!? My dad and I did this when we were developing prototype escalator systems when he worked for Otis elevator. Just a thought. I have a motor if you can't find one!
Hey I loved the video and I have a great idea 💡 yall should make a rear wheel turning go kart yalls pick I would love to see it to happen and I am so glad to see Ic still blowing up Motors keep up the score
You guys need to flip the jackshaft pulley around or get one that opens the same way as the engine clutch. If you don't, you're going to keep burning belts no matter how many jackshafts you do to reduce gearing. Belt misalignment is not something to shrug off. Also, ontop of that issue another reason you should get a different secondary is it looks like you're using a V belt (to make primary on motor), but the secondary looks to take a standard gokart flatside belt. That could cause some issues with slipping/burning aswell.
Yep, me being from up here in da nordern Mitchigan eh, I ain't never had any luck making those old 2-stroker snowmobile engines reliable. So much so that I'm currently in the process of building a snowmobile with a Honda CB750 Nighthawk engine, eliminating both the 2-stroke and that giant slipping V-belt in the process, and hoping that'll fix the problems that all snowmobiles seem to have. But then again, there still that rubber track thing......
Hay guy's do you know why the crank case seal blow out, is it the ring's? or just a gasket failure? great video, great little go kart, all the best to yous and your loved ones
You guys should check out the two speed automatic set up that was on the rather be welding channel you could do the same thing for your green drag cart👍
2 strokes lose crank seels all the time but you might have 2 much back pressure from your quiet exhaust? Maybe try a different muffler if you don't like the noise, but try to get a better flowing one, maybe try one with a 3" in and out pipe?
Rest in R.I.P.s 440 ❤️ On a sidenote, when are ya'll getting a lathe and/or a mill? The laser cutter seems super helpful and I'm sure you'd find good use in a lathe and mill as well.
