Of all the things that I have lost in life, I miss my mind the most. Get the little antibiotic packets at the VA. I use 4 - 2 1/2" aluminum nails with the big head. Add a large gem type paper clip to the Altoids can. With it you can place the lid perpendicular to the base and jam the hinge with the clip. Place a candle in the bottom and you have an effective light that doesn't blind you. Good Luck, Rick

Great idea to take the old tin and rebuild it with fresh/upgraded items. As I commented in the first video, I don't think that tin is waterproof - unless you hard-solder the seams! I don't think, your piece of wood with the ferrorod and striker is fatwood, it looks like varnished. If you want to keep it, I would cut it shorter and fit in at least half of your new ferrorod, saves space and gives you more fires. Treating the ferrorod with 3-4 layers of zapon laquer, which makes it airtight, helps against corrosion. As for your water-purification, you should look out for Micropur-T1-tablets, they are much smaller, and if you take them out of their blister and put it in a sealed plastic tube, you can easily fit as much in as you had in that old bottle. Keep up your great work.

👍. The Tee Lite Candles have another use. The Aluminium Holders make for nice little Alcohol Fuel / Gel Fuel Burners. When using liquid fuel, a cotton ball packed down inside reduces the risk of spillage. I've weaned myself off pure sugar. Dark Chocolate is a nice substitute. A bit bulky for putting inside the kit but keeps well and is a nice moral booster. Fire starters. I make my own. Plastic Drinking Straws cut to size, filled with cotton and vaseline and heat-sealed at both ends. The circular Cotton Makeup Pads soaked in wax work great too. 100% waterproof .. long burning and pack flat. Cut off as much as is required. Take care ..

Ive seen using drinking straws used for storing items before and it is a great idea. I keep meaning to incorporate them into a kit but haven't made it yet. I'll have to try the makeup pads in wax. I have makeup pads I pick up at the Dollar store for polishing etc. Have a good one.

Find lead free wick candles is my suggestion so you don't have to risk lead poisoning

Excellent! If I could make some suggestions, I’d swap those tinderquiks for tampaxs, which are sterile and so suitables for medical purposes too. I’d opt for a magnesium/ferrorod-cum-striker instead of that wooden thing. And I’d definitively swap the matches for a mini Bic lighter, wrapped in Gorilla Tape for extra tinder/gear repair. Keep up the good work! 👍🏻

Ferrorods and Bics are great which I do carry in my newer survival kits but I would still carry matches since over time Bics may dry out and ferrorods could degrade. I had one of the old metal matches in my backpack/hiking survival kit and after many years in the bottom of the pack totally disinterested, I don't know if newer one would do that. A tampax would be a great addition to a survival kit. I do carry Maxi pads in my first aid kits.

Nice upgrades to your original kit! Check out Wazoo survival gear…awesome company, people and gear! Wazoo offers a 1L water bag that you can boil water in to purify! Definitely worth a look! Also, Exotac makes a 4 hour candle tin made from USA beeswax…no worries about the wax melting! The wax is enclosed in the tin with a screw on cap! All my kits have these tins. Wazoo also offers a very small ceramic knife that can be used as a ferro rod striker! From one USAF Vet to another…enjoyed your videos very much and I hope you stick around to make more! LOL! You have inspired me to make Survival and survival kit videos for my children and grand children to watch, enjoy and learn from as they grow up into adulthood. So thank you sir. Again, WELL DONE!🇺🇸

Thanks for that from over here in the UK. I think I'm a little younger than you, but I do remember 1975/6, when you made the original kit, I would have been still at school. I look forward to your next video!

Great upgrades to your original Air Force survival kit from 1975. I LOVE it! So, how many other survival kits have you made over the years and for what purposes like home, car, getting home from work when you live 25 1/2 miles outside of town and the poop just hit the fan when the earthquake hit suddenly when you were at lunch with your work friends today? Do you have videos of any of these other kits? I'd like to see them. You do a great job Planetside Agent. I like it!

I've always carried a survival kit in my vehicles, they are larger and also have Items for the vehicle. I should do a video on them. I have a kit that I carry in my day pack and backpack, here is a video I made on it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bMaDselogII.html I recently made a small waterproof kit that I can carry in the pocket of my PFD, its in addition to items I carry on the boat. I plan to do a video on it. I carry various items, survival, first aid, tools, etc. all of the time and where ever I go. The though of being helpless really bothers me. Here is a fun video I made on a "nutshell" survival kit I got as a Christmas gift: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-spAr-S0qVC8.html

Not a bad idea, although we carried our issued survival auto knife attached to lanyard tied to the knife pocket on our flight-suit. I also carried a small pocket knife in a zippered breast pocket. In combat scenarios we were issued a survival vest with the USAF fixed blade survival knife and a S&W 38special. I was well bladed. 😊

That's what, like 2067 or so? You can leave the kit to someone with instructions to film the contents in 2067.
