I remember using the surface iron for the first time.. early 1980’s out of Oceanside using my Sabre 670 and Newell P229F. I was using a big chrome Krocodile jig catching barracuda... so much fun!
I have a Chrome Kroc in my bag at all times. I replaced the treble hook with a single Siwash and removed the barb so I can catch and release Cudas. Barracuda is an under-appreciated fish.
Bashing them? I've had no issues with my Tranx 400HG to date. Yeah the side plate thing, but whatever. Hopefully they change the side plate release back to the Curado 300e or Tranx 500 style. Other than that, it's one of my most fished reels. When or if I finally break it I'll be sure to post about it! ;)
Yea guys at tackle shops saying they don’t last, lexas are better straight hating on them! So far caught 5 Yellows and I love it! Thanks for the reply bro! There’s a video on RU-vid I believe tackle advisors. He ties on a short peice of braid from side plate to the reel check it out
Tackle Advisors msgd me about the lanyard fix, pretty cool idea. The Tranx 400 sits between the Lexa 300 and Lexa 400, and like Goldilocks and the Three Little Bears, it's just right ;)
