tonight i walked up to a guy ... his son and my son play on the same youth team ... i was like you look so familiar he looked at me and said well i played a little football so i asked him his name he said Mike Haynes super down to earth guy we talked for a little while amazing dude
Mike Haynes was an elite level cornerback. So smooth and fluid. If he weren't so low key then maybe people would speak more of him. Not saying that's a problem cause he is great no matter.
I wrote letters to many top players when I was a kid. Many did in fact reply with autographed photos. Mike Haynes did too, but he also sent a very nice personal letter to me which made it clear that this superstar actually cared about me, a little kid at the time. Such class. Yo Mike, I wish you nothing but the best. You are still the man!
They made a point of showing intercepting Marino and Jerry Rice (who made the list) and tackling Earl Campbell (who made the list) they also showed him intercepting Steve Largent. Why on earth Steve Largent isn't in the place Joe Namath I have no idea. Largent was one of the best receivers of all time. Do your own research.
Andrew Hall , LARGENT: one of only 3 receivers to retire as the all-time leader in receptions, reception yardage and TDs. Don Hutson and Jerry Rice are the others. Doesn't make sense that he's NOT a Top 100 player.
@Fries Couldn't agree more with you. If you look at the other receivers in the list, and see who was throwing to them in their career you get: Michael Irvin at #92 (QB Troy Aikman - HoF), 'Crazy Legs' Hirsch at # 87 (QB Norm van Brocklin - HoF), Paul warfield at #71 (QB Bob Griese - HoF), Ray Berry at #36 (QB Johnny Unitas - HoF), Don Hutson at #9 (QB Arnie Herber - HoF), Jerry Rice at #1 (QB Joe Montana and Steve Young - both HoF) The only receivers on the list who didn't have HoF QBs throwing to them were Randy Moss and Lance Alworth, who had multiple Pro Bowl QBs passing to them (Culpepper and John Hadl). Dave Krieg was a very good QB, but the Seahawks never quite had the team to support Krieg and Largent. The Seahawks also weren't helped by moving to the AFC West at a time when the Raiders were in one of their best periods, the Chargers had 'Air Coryell' with Dan Fouts at the helm, and the Broncos were about to draft John Elway and become a perennial divisional winner from the mid-80s onwards. The AFC West was one of the more competitive divisions throughout Largent's career. I think it's a travesty that one of the great possession receivers of all time isn't on the list. P.S. I'm not a Seahawks fan.
I loved MH as a corner, but c'mon he tackled basically a EC that was stopped and no where to go. If MH woulda tried that on a straight ahead downfield Campbell full speed, the tackle woulda looked different. But Haynes is still 1 of my all time favorites.
Deion was once asked why he didn't try to tackle a certain player. He said "business decision." All flash and that's it. Hell, Ronnie Lott was a better DB.
Maybe one of the best rookie seasons ever. 1976, he had 8 picks, in 14 games, won defensive rookie of the year, in an era where most teams ran the ball. He also had 2 punt return tds
I don't know about the most complete, but one of the truly best to ever do it. So many of today's kids don't think of him because they're insanely ignorant. He's better than anything in today's NFL, that's for sure. That's not a shot at today's players, that's testament to his greatness
@@DownfallHitlerParodyBro this same guy Was on another website about Lester Hayes. He has to be a 49er fan because he brought up. Ronnie Lott Smh" dude's a hater
It's splitting hairs, big time. I feel all three at interchangeable. Not sure I'd necessarily take one over the other. I do give a slight nod to Rod and Mike over Charles, but I don't feel anyone should make some vast, sweeping argument in favor of any of those 3. They are just at the upper echelon that's too minor a difference to argue about
@@jonathanblaze1648 Difficult to argue, it’s a sound list. I still advocate that it’s splitting hairs though. I’d likely put Deion down several slots, as he supported the run poorly as compared to the others. I literally can’t pick between Blount and Haynes. I’m such a fan of both.
We need another Mike Haynes right now in 2022-23. And a Lester Hayes while we’re at it. Those two were glorious in the ‘83 Super Bowl. Totally shut down the Redskins who had HOF WRs. Just frustrated them. Our D-line helped too.
Mr. Davis sure had an eye for talent position by position he chose the best. His players proved that by winning 3 championships, many all pro's and handfull's of hall of famers. It's like picking a bleeding scab watching Gruden coach my RAIDERS...
Looks more like your neighbor than an nfl cornerback but make no mistake he was a major factor in the success that the Raiders had back in the 80's and was a solid patriots player as well!!
.Matt Millen I agree!! Not taking anything from Deion, but Mike Haynes is the absolute gold standard when it comes to corner play. The only one I see that may come close is the kid from LSU Derrick Stingley
@@kurtd9231 Played in a more physical era, played the run and played the slot something Deion openly admitted he didn't do. Go through Prime's Career look at his best game, none will ever match Haynes performance in the Super Bowl against the Redskins. Can't claim to be the best if you didn't tackle or play slot, more marketable smiling and dancing for the cameras isn't a real criteria. Don't if you saw both play, i was privileged to see both.
1:17 A lot of Raiders were like that (Jim Plunkett, Howie Long, Willie Brown, Reggie Kinlaw, Daryl Lamonica, Art Shell, Derrick Jenson, Tim Brown, probably more) There's this myth you had to be a 'bad boy' to be a Raider. But they had plenty of 'Eagle Scouts' too. The Raiders just wanted you to be yourself.
@@thescatman5029He's not even better than Charles woodson he was in 12 pro bowls stop lying 🤥 and Charles woodson was snubbed in some. And holds records
There is no comparison between Deion Sanders and Mike Haynes! Haynes was a pure cover corner and he also could be very physical. He also returned punts. He had great hands and was actually a wide receiver when he first went to Arizona State University. Coach Frank Kush converted Haynes to cornerback because they had an outstanding wide receiver by the name of John Jefferson. That is why Haynes was able to make so many interceptions. He had great hands!
Paul L. cough grabby gloves cough I watched a Steve Largent vid where pros talked about the difference today's specially made 'grippy' gloves make if you think Odell Beckham makes his famous one-hander without those gloves, you're kidding yourself
Joe Johnson Yeah, that's one reason that I admire Largent for. But I think that rubbing stickum all over your arms and your jersey is just abusing the game rules a bit too much, and I think that that season was a big part of all the attention that went to him. Now he was a great corner, but not enough for me to get to this list, the Raiders already have Haynes and Willie Brown.
Mikey Haynes22 arguably greatest corner Eva!!!! In my opinion he's the best all around corner that's ever played. Deion Sanders might be the best man to man cover corner but as far as being an all around cornerback is concerned Haynes is the best no doubt
True, they also lost The Redskins and Green Bay in the last week of the season. They then beat the Steelers 38-10. Then the Seahawks 30-14. Up 20-0 at halftime. They destroyed David Craig. Then beat the Washington Redskins in the Super Bowl 38-9. They were completely different team after they picked up Mike Haynes.
One of my favorite CBs of all time and literally one of the best CBs of all time as well. While he might not be the singular best, he's right there and I'd go to war with this guy any day of the week, ever.
Good God it's more comments about Deion than it is about Mike. And it's the same way on Darrell Green, Rod Woodson and Mel Blount video. Deion lives rent free in alot of people's mind apparently
@@jppsfingers50 Lol no.... He was a 6 time Second Team All Pro with NE... He won two first team all pros with Oakland..... Get out of here with that nonsense...
@@chadwest5299 I agree with you that there's a lot of bias against the Raiders they have plenty of players that have been denied the right to be inducted into Canton.
I dont know why they show clips of defensemen intercepting Joe Namath, seeing where almost every defensemen picked him off all the time. Generally Namath threw the football right to them instead of his own receivers.
I could kinda picture Haynes doing that too, lol! He always comes off as a really nice guy in all his interviews. Almost too nice. Boy could he play tho!!
"That 83' team, I put that defense against anybody, anybody"..........Matt is right!!! that was a bad ass defense: Alzado, Pickell, Long. Martin. Millen, Nelson, Hendricks. Haynes, Davis, Mc Elroy, Hayes.
Yet Sanders gets all the glory. Millen is right. Haynes was that good, a complete Corner who could tackle in run support. Surprised he didn't have more all pro nods.
@@greggillings9454 Two years have gone by and the dumb, Cliff Notes Millennial named kurtd9231 STILL has no answer for your question. Two corners better than Mike Haynes...What an idiot.
So which is it... I thought deion Sanders was the best corner of all time now people are saying this Mike haynes and judging by the footage I'd have to say he's better Dion never tackled like that
