Suggestions: You could emphasize the 4D gameplay in the UI, by giving 4D Lenses a unique item slot, “lenses,” separate from armor slots, and making variants that allow the player to view 4D via different methods (such as partially transparent overlays, blue/red onionskins or afterimages). Giving the game a more “simple but flashy” name, such as “PRYSM” (although that name specifically might be copyrighted by a tech company) could help with garnering attention/support. No offense, but as it stands “4D Miner” IS one number away from using the exact same name as an existing Minecraft clone. A shorter, simpler name would also make core features easier to accentuate, such as renaming Deadly Ore to “Prysmite,” in the case of Prysm. More closely matching features to the title or concept could give the game a more memorable “identity” that is easier to boil down. Also, AS SOON as this game has enough content to make gameplay videos on, ask @AlphaBetaGamer to play it. None of this is in response to the failed kickstarter by the way, these are just suggestions being given when I happened to find this game and think of them.
@@masterminer176 No please, as somebody who likes science we don’t need anymore random misuse of that word, it’s already been abused a lot by random medias as sciencey jargon.
@@pixerpinecone actually it may be fitting in a way as to a 3d observer 4d objects can seem to exist in multiple places at once, but other than that i agree with you
I feel that "insecurity" is the sensation that this game should look for... is uncomfortable because we are a 3d being in a dimension that we can't fully understand, and that's awesome. That way may this game will have a personality appart from just being a "minecraft 4d", like terraria did many years ago. It's just awesome what you're doing, keep going!!
i was thinking this too. the hyperspiders are really scary due to how they look so uncanny and just pop out of nowhere i feel like there's a lot of horror potential here
Yea ikr, terraria went from 2d minecraft (although it never was) to its own massive sandbox rpg with tons of unique features and countless content with its huge community, I really hope 4d miner would reach that point one day
To me, this feels like when Minecraft was beggining it feels like some little game, but then it will be awesome (its awesome even now) Good luck with the game
Might I suggest changing "deadly ore"/"deadly bars", etc. to something that doesn't convey it could harm you? "Quadrite" was what I came up with off-the-cuff - "quad" to convey four, of course, to suggest it's a material native to the fourth dimension.
I kind of like the idea that "Deadly Ore/Bars" is called that for a reason; you are a 3D being in a 4D world, and even things as mundane as the metal can be dangerous. I think it would be super cool to have the Deadly Ore actually have certain risk/reward crafting items, like maybe an armor set that gives you very good defense against monsters but also constantly shifts you in the fourth dimension, forcing you to be careful as where you step now could stop being real at any moment. Another idea could be a sword that itself is mostly in the fourth dimension, so while it is very powerful it is also incredibly unwieldy, making you need to understand where it is at all times to be able to properly use it. I don't know how any of this would really work as a game mechanic, I just think the idea of the most powerful ore of the game also being incredibly unstable. It just sounds very cool and very fitting for a 4D game.
I thought that 'deadly' was being used in the way that some people use it as slang when talking about something 'cool'. 'lethal' is also sometimes used like this.
it would be cool if there was some sort of ‘waypoint’ that you could click to rotate to a certain angle in the fourth dimension - could be very useful in a cave for example to find what angle the exit/entrance is visible at
That's one of the features planned, though from my understanding Mashpoe is giving it some thought (and time) to find the best way to implement this or something similar.
id love to see some kind of long dragon enemy. Who snakes in and out of the fourth dimension. Like imagine seeing a bit of his torso and BAM his head pops out.
Imagine, you head to some new area, see a boss health bar, hear the music, but don't see anything. You start looking around, and see something in the sky, when all the sudden a huge head pops out of the 4th dimension right in front of you, giving you a limited time to react and actually damage it
@@kaetanfacon5781 we have an american dragon in minecraft, i was thinking more of a chinese dragon. Also there's dragons in final fantasy but other RPGs have dragons. Minecraft doesnt own the idea of a dragon.
I am so excited about this project and was sad that it didn't get funded enough, but I'm happy you are continuing, and I will get the 5-dollar support thing tonight.
I just realised how cool this is! You can have a whole 3d game with any kind of shape for the blocks, just by rotating and shifting the 4d view position in a certain way, which is also probably unecessarily complicated. I would also very much like for the game to have some sort of redstone (or more complex) level contraptions system, as that would bring (actually) endless possibilities! I genuenly think that this game has so much potential, and making it into just a general "minecraft but 4d" is such a waste when it can be so so much more.
This is what I fear about this game the most. I think the 4D gimmick should be pushed as much as possible, because as it is now, I only see this game as "a minecraft clone with a 4D gimmick" with the worst aspects that it brings such as "harder to build stuff" and "more tedious to pick up item drops". I don't know how you would expand this concept and make it more exciting. Personally I just don't see many possibilities with this 4D system aside from just saying that your game is 4D, being excited for a few minutes, but then dropping the game shortly after.
@@TheMikirog The concept of the fourth dimension is such an expansive one that you could do literally anything with it, I agree that the similarities to Minecraft are very dangerous and are best avoided where possible, that's where the community suggestions kick in. No one wants to see this game fall into the "Minecraft Clone" trap. So we have to keep suggesting new and interesting ideas to help it stand apart from the rest!
It can be it own thing, just stay away from making it Minecraft like, more unique enemies please I'm tried Minecraft keep adding passive mobs. More weird things in the furth dimensions like seriously it can be something from backroom series entitys
it would be a cool feature if there were events or enemies that pushed you around the 4D space. i feel like it could really discombobulate the player and make them rush around trying to fix themselves, kinda like the creeper in minecraft, something sudden and unexpected and requires quick thinking to act.
Oh man I just found this out, but multiplayer sounds amazing. Imagine having a server where certain groups of people dedicate to building in only certain 3d planes.
i think something that would really bring your game to the next level is a good lighting system, the manipulation of light through the 4th dimension would be insane
I think he should shift to Unreal Engine 5. They give funding to projects; they have amazing tools for 3d games including lighting (Lumen) and they have Niagra for crazy effects (done easy and beautifully with the Ninja Plugin).
I didn't think about how if someone (Mashpoe or a modder) implemented light source sensitive shadows, shadows will come from objects outside of your cross-section unless the sun is in your cross-section. I don't know how much impact this would have on performance. My first thought was that the way everything is displayed as a 3D cross-section, there's not a lot of opportunity to manipulate light in a 4th dimensional manner, but shadows shift like everything else.
@@thelawgameplaywithcommenta2654 anything related to rendering or physics in Unreal is 3d, which means it's not useful here. He would spend a lot of time just fighting to hack a 4d renderer into the engine
It's not yet time yet. We don't even have our own self sufficient game yet. A game that progress with or without players. Progress that means they themselves evolve. Plus 4d Miner is quite a new concept, it has many possibilities. So don't let the fire burn out.
Okay here is some advice: Rotate around the center of the block you are standing on (and snap your 4'th dimensional position entirely atop that block if need be) not around the players location. This makes the rotation mechanic feel less arbitrary and more repeatable, because otherwise you will always be a portion of a block out and that makes interacting with the world a real chore.
@@raynethecat3027 “tilting towards +-W” or “…X” doesn’t say much, you do not need a tilt-towards-X, and you have to specify if it is relative or absolute, and, for W, in the case it is relative, you would need a rotation about the ZY plane specifically, in the case it is absolute, you would want the XZ plane ( i think, but i do not have anything i can write on to test it that’s true ) Also have you considered that the arrows and mouse are mutually exclusive? perhaps just use the mouse wheel, you only need 3 sets of inputs anyway.
There are not enough 4D / Non-Euclidean space games out there, so as a fan of those types of games this is really interesting! That the inventory is also shaped with the amount of cubes required for a Dali Cross is perfect, great humor Mash, can't wait to see where this project goes!
I'm in such love with this project. I've discovered it yesterday on your video about 4D Miner, and I'm really enjoying how this all is going. I really hope you manage to add bossfights to the game when it releases fully, i may even try it out
Just know when you do release the game please make it harder. The only mobs in the game Spiders are rather weak and once you get a stick let alone a dangerous pickaxe they are kinda a push over. I feel this game has potential because trying to survive in a world where all living beings can freely access the world at anytime except for you has the potential to make for some interesting gameplay moments especially if you add multi-player like you said you would. Overall good luck with your game and I look forward to playing it.
I only discovered this due to youtubes recommendation system, That video was of corse one of the best things youtube has recommended me and an amazing discovery. I would like youtube to recommend good videos like this but anyway keep up the work on the game. Can’t wait to see what bosses would look like if there will be anyway.
I really hope this gets noticed by more people, it reminds me of Minecraft’s humble beginnings, it started with such a simple build but it was worked on more and more until it became the icon it’s known as today.
I was wondering if you were gonna launch a Patreon. I also completely missed some of the stuff the Discord made, like resource pack manager. Cool stuff!
This project looks fantastic, even just as a tech demo! My one request now would be re-bindable controls. because of how I use a keyboard and mouse, (the mouse is in my left hand, weird I know) wasd is very difficult to move around with, so being able to rebind controls would be very helpful, and I'm sure at least a few other people feel the same way.
I can express how amazed I am, we you did the the thing with the thing that you did just wow. the compass and how you interact with the world, the designs for the creatures!? + the world itself looks amazing you know streamers and RU-vidrs alike will be screaming with joy when a spider walks throw the fourth demotion into their hearts/house. I only just saw your first video but I'm so glad I did because this really just made me so happy.
I'm sorry you didn't reach your goal but I literally just got pushed an earlier video about the game and that it was going up on Kickstarter. I'm glad you have decided to keep plugging away at it because I think it will make a good learning experience for people to think out side of 3D.
This game looks amazing! Just wondering, are you going to add any more enemies, like Hyperzombies or Hyperskeletons, or are you planning to make a conpletely different enemy? Thanks in advance :)
Hyperskeletons sound horrible. It's surprising enough having a hyperspider walk in on you through from the 4th direction, so being shot from the 4th direction would SUCK
The fact that you STILL decided to continue to make 4D Miner despite the kick starter being an absolute flop, really shows your love & dedication to your community! Mad respect my fellow indie developer! ✊
im just so intrigued by the 4th dimension in terms of video games, there are certainly a lot of things that can only be done in this setup and i am looking forward to seeing what those things are
Suggestion: A 4d targeting system (could be a special item like the 4d glasses) which targets an enemy, player or not, and keeps you in the same plane as them. It would have some adverse affects too, as while you are targeting or being targeted by someone, the world shifts with respect to how you move (for example, moving to the right of your opponent would act as the scroll wheel up function and moving left as SW down). This way combat isn’t just about who can hit who the most or who can run away into the 4th dimension fastest, but more about situational awareness and using the shifting terrain to your advantage
i just found out about 4d miner yesterday , if i knew there was a kickstarter i wouldve backed this in time... glad to know youre still working on it ! I wish you the best of luck
You should add a feature we’re there is a creative mode like Minecraft and within the creative mode can be extra blocks and monsters that don’t normally fit the game’s theme, like some blocks and monsters can even be community creations.
I like you idea, except for the one where you said that the items also include things that don't fit the game's theme. Let those items be a part of a mod, not integrated into the vanilla game.
I'm commenting in hopes it'll boost the RU-vid algorithm to show this to more people, I support this 100%. This is amazing! Would love to see how this develops over time!
can you add an option to disable the text glitching effect, or decrease it? another suggestion: add an option in settings that switches the strafe and rotate controls
I love seeing projects that explore the 4th dimension. I remember seeing another game a while back that was supposed to be this platformer (I don't know if it ever got released or what, seemed to be in development hell or something?). I think what you have accomplished looks amazing, but I am really interested in seeing how you will shape the 4th dimensional aspect into the gameplay so it becomes a fun and engaging part, rather than it being just a gimmick or hassle. Either way I wish you good luck! This is already very innovative.
Honestly, I think you are doing actually serious work for the rest of humanity by developing this game. I think it has potential to become an important tool for learning, as will many other games in the future. But this one especially, because something tells me that the future is very strange, and I think very few people can start to grasp how strange it will get. This game can be a start of grasping something out of our usual comprehension. Keep up the great work. Thank you.
I'd like it if you had some sort of accessory slot or armor slot to put things like the 4d glasses into, having to switch to your weapon for each hit on a hyperspider, switching back to the glasses to locate the enemy, and then grabbing your weapon again is very frustrating, especially with low fps.
I literally just found out about this game today with your first video on it. I don't have a PC to play it on rn but it's just so interesting, I'll have to keep up with how development is going from now on. Exploring 4D using Minecraft-like mechanics makes it all make a lot more sense to me, and that explanation using the 2D person in your first video was also really good
man... I JUST descovered about 4dminer and i'm honestly stunned. Glad you'll keep going! You have all my support in this buddy, checking your patreon NOW!
Bit of a suggestion, perhaps when designing the enemy NPCs, You could draw inspiration from biblically accurate angels. Could help with the theming or just be a neat thing to see.
please mashpoe, do not make the same mistake minecraft did and lose focus. it can't decide if it's a survival, sandbox, or exploration game sometimes and instead of getting really good at one it just continues working on all three without revising the old stuff. this game has some fantastic potential, and i love it. imo, it'd be great as a survival game, as the sandbox building aspect is a little difficult because of four dimensions. hope you're having a nice day and continue to have them, though!
Minecraft is all three at once and more. That's why there is so much to it because it is your world, and you can do anything with it, like play it vanilla style, create servers, add mods, etc. Essentially, only focusing on one aspect will lose the fundamental core of what Minecraft is, and that is creativity.
As soon as I physically can I will be supporting you on patreon, this project feels magical. In the same sense that Minecraft felt magical when it was in it's earliest stages, I really hope the growing trend continues, and I hope you keep making it better and better, it's so exciting! A couple comments I have on the game - instead of armor slots, you should have equipment slots. Just places to put items like the compass and 3d glasses and any other future concepts you might add. That and when II right click an item i only have one of, it creates another of that same item even though the item count reads 0. lol
I gotta say I think the ultimate failure of the kickstarter were a few reasons: the graphics could have used an update to have a more cohesive style, you should have promoted the game for a longer time instead of making one video on it and immediately publishing the kickstarter, but the biggest issue is the the idea being completely unbaked. In the qa video you basically deny the game having any focus which just makes it a 4d demonstration and not a game. If you want to promote this as a game you need to decide what the gameplay loop will be, otherwise ppl wont be interested in paying money for it.
The name just needs to be rebranded to NOT be called “4D miner”. I’d call it something related to tesseracts, like “Tesseract”, and the 4D blocks be called something like “tesseractites”
There's four main takeaways that I have from this: You need a new name, friend. Anything to do with the number 4 or hyperdimensional structures will do. You're going to be in a niche anyway, so why constrict yourself in a niche inside a clone niche. You may want to ditch the voxel design alltogether. Or maybe use a mesh (cartesian or polygonal) that conforms to the landscape and provides a smoother look so you don't risk falling into the minecraft clone niche I mentioned before. It shouldn't hinder breaking or adding blocks and allow the local meshes to deform in response. The change in the look by itself will probably make all the difference in delineating the game from the rest of the voxel minecraft-likes. It would probably be cool to constrain the degrees of freedom when shifting through the fourth dimension a little bit as folks get used to the concept of the game. Then allow more granular shifting through the fourth dimension as they progress. Though, that's if you're aiming for a larger audience that doesn't already grok the idea. And, finally, while the genre isn't exactly my bag in the first place, I could see an mmo being one of the ultimate realizations of this idea. Characters and mobs start out on a "server" with a single degree of 4th dimensional freedom. Later, by patch and discovery, players are able to translate themselves between their "server" and a sister "server" oriented perpendicular to their own. Much further down the line, the players are freely hopping between degrees of freedom since they've all been operating on the exact same server the entire time and just didn't know it at the outset.
Can't wait till this will be fully released. This has Mad potential,Mashpoe this is hard to do so don't have too much pressure to release as soon as possible if you put in your love and care it will definitely be amazing.
Holy shit! Youve grown like 5k subs in a few days! Youre honestly the most chill, and entertaining dev youtuber rn. Thanks for not quitting because you didnt get enough revenue, best dev ive seen on the platform
just saw the original video about this - SO glad that you're blowing up since all 4D games so far have been tech demos pretty much... hopefully you'll be able to pull something cool off here :)
The coolest thing I could imagine for this would be a proper 4D ray traced shader. I know the tech already exists since this is how the black holes were rendered in Interstellar.
4D ray racing would, actually, despite the misleading name, not be that much more computationally intensive, since what ultimately decides that - is the number of dimensions to your screen ( which is still 2 )
You've got this. I just found this by related videos, and the more following you gather, the more support you'll get. If after a bit you do another kickstarter, you have my support even without rewards
I'm very sad I only heard about this project a day or two ago; but very happy you're pushing forward with what I personally see as one of the most innovative games I've seen in the 30+ years of gaming
