I tried the 3 4G plus router and had it modified as suggested and run on external Poynting 5G aerials on roof. The LTE function light stays red so assume LTE not working at all. An improvement on before modification but seems more limited than expected - unless anyone knows better!

Great video,you mentioned a 12v stabilised adapter, any chance of a link as I am about to wire in my tp link mr600 and thought an adapter better than a 5v to 12 v usb. Cheers

Thanks! Yeah I can't gaurantee the plug will be the right one so you might have to cut it off and add a correct one but this until will stabilise the voltage to avoid frying the unit. amzn.to/3wXGuug

Are u using two aeriels? i.e. mimo 3 for high bandwidth and unbranded aeriel for low bandwidth? If so can you provide more details of unbranded aeriel?
@ExploreVanUK
@ExploreVanUK Год назад
Yep we used the Mimo 3 2x2 LTE as the main antenna (first 2 connections) and the unbranded 2x2 MiMo on the 3rd and 4th connections. The unbranded one was the one we also tested in this video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s4nNAjV0oRM.html

could you retest this router to ensure the mod from router mods makes all 4 antenna ports usable at the same time, I had a zte mc801a modded by them recently after watching your video, but out of the 8 sma ports running only the 1 main 4g antenna port works giving me SISO and no mimo at all. in a retest could you open signal quality settings and disconnect each cable 1 at a time keeping the quality settings open and as you do the quality should get progressively worse.
@ExploreVanUK
@ExploreVanUK Год назад
Unfortunately this router doesn’t provide a Signal Quality displayed in the Management Page as it’s really basic. Have you had a chat with them? I found them really helpful. I’m not sure you would see the signal quality change as you expect, as it possibly won’t be showing the signal quality of each band aggregated together, it may just shows the primary band signal quality, which is why you are seeing what you are.
@mrtwinky2007
@mrtwinky2007 Год назад
@@ExploreVanUK It does have a signal quality display under the stats screen I had the router myself after first seeing your video. at 2:49 in your video "£50 for the best 4G Router we've used! - Three 4G+ Hub Cat 18 Router. - Sercomm LTE2122GR" if you click the "Stats & Support" tab it should be there if I remember correctly, Like I said I did have this router myself for a while after watching your video, but I returned it and bought the zte mc801a to get modded instead (against my better judgement) I have tried calling them today but I didn't expect them to answer since it's a sunday I intend on trying them tomorrow morning before I go to work, I might get talking to them on tuesday when im off I've noticed with the zte mc801a during my testing that it's picking up multiple bands from EE 02 Vodafone all on 1 antenna I confirmed this by leaving only the 1 lpda in the stickered 4G main port and it had the same signal streagh and snr as when 4 lpda's where connected to all 4 4g high band and lowband ports I also agree I found the person I spoke to a couple of times already very nice and helpful, he had mentioned before when I called him after getting the mod done I noticed I had a much worse signal and quality with the router compared to the unmodded sercomm I had just gotten rid of after sending him the zte unoppened to mod. He said the 4g main ports needed to establish a connection first then the high band ports would kick in, So I waited until my first 2 iskra lpda's arrived but I became concerned when they arrived and with the panel antenna which was great with the sercomm router was doing nothing with the zte with the 2 lpda's So thats when I tried every provider the 2 masts in my area service and 2 more iskra lpda's (which do give a better signal than the panel) Ether something has gone wrong with the mod in shipping or the firmware on the router does nothing with the additional antennas on the board which he's replaced with sma connectors so they're going unused by the software. Because surely I should be getting at least 2x2 mimo because I was getting it before

May be I’m wrong, I’ll double check when I get chance but I thought it only showed Signal Strength (RSRP or RSSI) rather than signal quality (RSRQ).
@mrtwinky2007
@mrtwinky2007 Год назад
@@ExploreVanUK it as, for sure, you even show the signal strength of -109db by using the app at 2:32 in the first video. I believe it's only listed as RSRQ in the stats & Support page when in browser, It might say RSRQ (Signal Strength) but it's in there for sure :) It'd be great if you could do a follow up because it'd put alot of worries I have to rest, because i'd at least know what I need to sell now and what to get.

Hi I did a really simple test to determine if all 4 new antenna connections did something on the modified router.. With no antennas connected I was unable to get any connection. With one antenna connected to the last socket (furthest from the marked main connection) - I was able to get a 3G connection and Power was -113 and SNR -6. With 2 connected it was still -113 and -6 but the download speed doubled. With 3 connected (all but the main) Signal was -89 and SNR -6 With all 4 connected Signal was -63 and SNR +10 For me I would say that concludes that they are all connected and having an impact across the different bands.

Thanks for the video, I've been using the £50 mifi router you did a video about. But now I'm thinking about getting the netgear nighthawk, do you know much about it and how it compares to this setup?
@TreeWorksUK
@TreeWorksUK Год назад
I've been using the Nighthawk M1 for four years. When it's in the van used permanently I remove the internal battery to prevent it from overheating. Considered an external antenna but I haven't needed one no matter where I've been - and I've been to some pretty remote locations!

@ExploreVanUK Год назад
The Nighthawk range is a good consumer option but to me are expensive for what they are, you still only get 2x2 external antenna connections unless you have it modified. As the unit is bigger it probably has a bigger internal antenna than smaller units so if you are going to use without an external antenna that could make it a better choice. Personally I would spend the money on a commercial industrial router rather than a consumer one if you are looking to spend that kind of money. Have a look at the Teltonika range at www.Solwise.co.uk If you decide they are a good choice for you use EXPLOREVAN at the checkout for 10% off.

Hi, just following up, Router-mods have confirmed they are currently revamping their site which means discount codes aren't currently available - they will be back in the next few weeks. If you drop them a line and mention the channel then they will honour the discount in the meantime.

I currently use a ZTE mifi unit that I bought after seeing one of your previous videos. I also bought a £50 Poynting mimo puck antenna but found it didn’t make much of any difference to the ZTE’s internal antenna. If I went for one of these A: do you think I’d see a performance improvement over the ZTE mifi unit with this router left in stock mode? And B: If I decided to mod it do you think my poynting puck would be worth using with it along with another antenna ? (Recommendations for second antenna welcome) Would you pick this unit over the Huawei 232 featured in your more recent videos or is there n even better budget friendly recommendation? Thanks
@ExploreVanUK
@ExploreVanUK 10 месяцев назад
Hi - yes this would perform better in areas that have multiple bands available as it will agregate them together - depending on the model ZTE - I've reviewed a couple, it possibly won't. However I would now suggest looking at the Huawei B535-232 rather than this one as we've found it has better configuration and multi-network connectivity. You can see it in our video here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tRIIWwU8kCQ.html

@@ExploreVanUK thanks, it’s the MF910 mifi unit I have at the moment. With the 535-232 Huawei do you think the poynting puck would work ok ?
@ExploreVanUK
@ExploreVanUK 10 месяцев назад
@ajpepe72 yep the MF910 is only Cat4 and getting on a bit now, the Huawei is Cat 7. The Puck is perfect for it. It’s worth noting though in good signal areas it will potential work better with the internal antennas as it has 4. The puck will be beneficial in areas of poor coverage though. A big advantage is you can select internal or external antenna in the menu of the Huawei so you don’t have to mess around connecting and disconnecting it.
