Curt goes over one of the more commonly confused units, the 4L60E and the 4L65E variations. GM changed their 4L60E as the years went on, these changes include differences in the: case, bell housing, bolt holes, input shaft, and stater.
93-96 - 4l60e one piece
97-05 - 4l60e 2-piece - newer electronics, smooth lockup shaft
2006+ 4l65e/70 - different electronics, bell housing, different TC and input shafts/stater.

I have an 05 1500 with 4.3l 2wd. I know I can't use a four-wheel drive transmission. But after three days of searching I can't get an answer as to which version of the 4 l60e I need. And I can't get mine in the garage to remove it until I have a replacement transmission. We kind of puts me in a bind but I can't find anything about the 4.3 L of the 05 year

They are 1/2" to 1" longer depending on the Bell type. You won't need a different drive shaft, just a different yoke. Give us a call at 800-708-0087 and we can help locate the right one.

I’m looking at one of your Transmissions for my early 99 suburban. It’s a 4x4 but we are going 4x2 and doing away with the transfer case and front diff, do you know if a 2wd 4l60e transmission will drop right in? Thank you.

You will need a new drive shaft with changing everything, but depending on which engine size it may be the 4L65E.

I'm doing an LS Swap and have an 01' 5.3 engine, do I need a 99-03 4l60e or can I use a 2004+ 4L60e as well? Meaning did 4L60e paired with 5.3s change after a certain year making them incompatible

99-05 will work as long as it has the LS bellhousing.

If it is a 2wd it will be direct replacement they are essentially the same Transmission but if it is 4x4 you will need to match up the correct 4x4 extension housing with your Transfer Case but is possible. Thank you for choosing Monster Transmissions.

They are not interchangeable 60 series is for the non LS and the 65 series top bolt is for the LS series

No, the 2001 4L60E was designed to match up to the LS motor.

Yes it should. It will be a good idea to check the fluid and if any debris is in the pan before installing. Be sure to flush the coolant lines as well.

If you are trying to install a Converter that requires a 300mm input shaft ( That was bolted up to a LS Design Motor) on a Transmission that has a 30 spline (which the 4l60E from 1993-98 will have a 30 spline) The converter will just free spin and not hook up with the Splines of the input shaft and potentially wipe out the splines it does touch.

What you have in your 2002 Chevy Tahoe with the 5.3L will be a 4L65E since it is a LS design motor your Transmission will require the 300mm input shaft not the standard 30spline input shaft the 4L60E will have. Yes because that's how gm identifies it. It is a 65 series still with a top bolt hole 300mm stator.

@@everydaycar3518 That's because that is an LS Base converter and transmission. It will likely have pilot clearance and bolting up issues to the flex plate.

Hello! The difference in the 2007 Avalanches transmission is it has a 15 pin harness with an Input Speed Sensor, the 2003 4L60E would not be interchangeable with it.

ugh i need a new transmission. i just dont know what to do. 4l60e is like 2 grand but a 6l80e and standalone harness is 3500 and a rebuilt 4l60e is around a grand.

Unfortunately It will not mate up you will need a 4L60E 2pc case with the 30 spline input shaft not the 03 Tahoe 5.3L 4L65E with the 300mm input shaft to be able to work with your Vortec 350.

They have different electronics so it wont be a direct swap, you would have to switch the wire harness and EPC. You could use the EPC and wiring harness from the 2kcd but we recommend getting new parts for it. If you need any technical support or parts for this give us a call at 800-708-0087.

Yes it will bolt up to the 5.3L but depending on what you are using for a Controller will determine what you can use for the Transmission for example since 2006 is the Transition year it could be a 4L65E with the 13pin connector or it could be the 4L70E with the 15pin connector with the ISS Input speed sensor so the main point is to ensure your electronics match up.
