GRAB A PRO-MIST Filter HERE: amzn.to/38cZGZq - Our 4x5 Cinema Lens Filter Comparison will show you the Schneider Hollywood Black Magic VS Black Pro Mist Filter VS Low Contrast VS Tiffen Pearlescent VS True-Streak and more. Which is the best cinema filter for you? If you're looking for an in-depth cinema lens filter comparison, we put 6 popular cinema filters side-by-side to see their differences.
To compare these cinema camera filters, we’re filming on the new Canon C300 mkIII with the ARRI LMB-4x5 matte box. These filters typically come in strengths of 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 , 1, and 2. The 1/8 being the least effect and 2 being the most. In our cinema lens filter review we'll film each on a 35mm Canon CN-E Prime and then also on the 85mm prime. This will show how each cinema filter affects the image at different focal lengths
Using Diffusion Filters has become popular in the film industry because of the many benefits they provide, such as:
-Reducing Highlights and Lowering Contrast
-Softening Wrinkles and Blemishes
-Creating a Soft Quality of Light
If you're looking for the best cinema softening filter, check out our Hollywood Black Magic footage and review in this video. We think the Black Pro Mist and Low Contrast filters are also very good cinema filters that have attractive qualities.
If you have any questions on the techniques used in this review video, please send a note in the comments. Thanks for watching our 4x5 Cinema Filter Comparison: Hollywood Black Magic VS Tiffen Black Pro Mist & Best Diffusion Filters, filmed on the Canon C300 mkIII, in our Film Jams series!

Another great comparison video. Got to love filters. Curious to see what happens with the rear magnetic filters that are starting to pop up. Now that's a comparison to think about since I'm sure having the filter in front of the lens vs having it on the rear makes a difference.

@9:43 I believe you have the two filters backwards in terms of labeling here. As normally the Hollywood has more of a very short bloom and the black pro mist tends to have a more dispersed bloom. Extremely great and thorough video though! Nicely done.

Hahaha, this was awesome. Great music choice! Man..., we're somehow connected mentally. Sometime ago I was looking into matte boxes and that's how I found you, then I was searching for cinema lenses and you released a video about them (Rockinon), and now I've been looking for diffusion filters and here you are! This is weird. lol..., in a good way! I purchased the new one that Moment did and I had to cancelled my order cause the delivery to Europe was redicusly delated..., then I bought on Amazon the black pro mist by Tiffen (first I got the 1/4, but then I changed it to the 1/8) and it's pretty good. I used it for my latest video. I've decided (pretty sure-I think), that I'm gonna get the Fotga matte box cause you can use 4x4 filters which are cheaper than the 4x5 of course and then start to build up my filter collection. Loved that fog filter, and the one that has the effect like the anamorphic lenses, also the perlestine..... forgot the spelling, lol.... Great job as always man! Keep safe and keep rock..... I won't say it 😂👍
@FilmJams
@FilmJams 3 года назад
Haha! Thank you so much for the support and always checking out our videos! It really means a lot. And yes we must be connected...maybe in the 5th dimension somewhere 😆 the black pro mist 1/8 is a good one for most situations. And the streak and the fog filter are pretty cool to have for those special occasions! 4x4 isn’t a bad way to go to cut cost but the 4x5 definitely are more versatile if you’re able to spend a little more. Rock.....🤐

TopicRuben wider lenses will vignette on a 4x4. And if you ever go to a large format or full frame camera, then they will be even more likely to vignette. So not as future proof. Have a friend that bought a 4x4 and he’s now selling to buy a 4x5 for that exact reason.

Hi there Joon...I think 1/4 is a good sweet spot for Glimmerglass too yes.
