5.3L To 6.2L Engine Swap (Part 1)

No problem! Hope yours goes better than mine. Yup, we just left it connected in the bay. We also unbolted the entire alternator bracket and left that in the bay as well. Tons easier. Beware of the A/C compressor belt if yours doesn't have a tensioner by the way. Mine doesn't and it has to be installed like a bicycle chain. Bolt on the compressor then rotate the pulley until the belt slips on. Thought I'd let you know in case you haven't seen that video of mine. It's a pain.

I'll have to find the video about the compressor. The Haynes manual I have says it has a tensioner that you use a 3/8 stud on to release tension, but I haven't looked that far under. Thanks for the tip!

You can as long as the 5.3 is the 58x reluctor wheel 5.3.If you use the 5.3 comouter it will work fine because the bcm is what tells comouter to start so no need to worry about immobilizer

It wasn't any harder than just replacing an engine for the most part. You will need your computer retuned and you'll have to swap some of the timing components out before installing the replacement engine. This roughly cost me around $6500 total. 1 You can swap anything and nothing fits perfectly it will take some major tinkering and 2 the 5.3 in your truck is a vortec. Ls1 is a 5.7 liter. They do make a 5.3 ls but that is for front wheel drive only.

Looks like everything will bolt right up and plug in if you get the 6.0L out of the same generation Tahoe as yours. You'd just need to have the computer reflashed for the 6.0L. Spline count is 36 and not sure about the bolt pattern. It's just stock

Will a 2006 vortec engine 5.3liter from a silverado fit on a 1999 for a swap or they are different?

Mostly doing it so I can have the awesome power potential. The 5.3 put out 289hp and 291tq. Next week we'll see what the 6.2 is putting out :)

Put aluminum block back in,you can still run a good amount of hp through that aluminum block with no worries,cast is too heavy and it came like it was for reasons lok

Where is the crank and cam sensor located on the cast block vs the aluminium block?

Why did you put a 5.3 in a truck that came with a 6.0 originally unless your talking about the Envoy Denali?

Same block but in 2007 they changed to 58x reluctor wheel on non classic silverados

Well come over and help us out man haha We're just wanting to do it right. This is the first time we've done anything like it so it's all a huge learning curve. It's still going along nicely so far. Other bullshit has been going on this week holding up progress but we should be dropping the new motor in tomorrow then getting it tuned.

Yeah, that's definitely a ways up there. Our shop is about 10 minutes out of Little Falls. What are you working on? I'm still waiting to receive the torque converter. Sounds like it'll be another week and a half before it'll be here. So I guess that's gonna go in later on after the motor is in and running.

It will fit right on the motor mounts the same way.

dano the “loss of power steering assist” recall is an update on the pcm. Takes 15 minutes. I’ve never seen anyone replace a steering shaft for any reason other than rust.

That junkie is my dad dude. He's done dozens of engine swaps on older cars but not new ones. Just direct replacements. With that being said, it took less than a week and it's still running perfectly over a year later. It was the "professional" tuners that fucked me. Something tells me you have no idea what you're talking about.. This isn't a direct swap and it will not run with the 5.3L ECU.

Your pistons have valve reliefs and you have no sodium filled valves so still not a ls3 but close enough. I just bought a true ls3 for my 09 crew cab z7. I will try and make some videos of the swap

68camaro I'm also swapping my 5.3 with a true ls3 430 horse crate engine in my 09 crew cab. Do you have any advice or suggestions to help along the way? Are there any other parts that will need to be changed
