right now im at a big crossroads on how I want to build my impala. Its a 61 with an original 283 in it. But when you guys were talking about the 6 bolt main, it's making me wanna LS swap it. Its like future proofing myself cause initially i don't want a whole lot of power out of my car, but in the future I might wanna push it a little more. LS would allow me to do that with no worries at all. Enjoying the content!

I’ve got a buddy who’s REAL big into rotaries, 2nd gen RX-7’s and drifting. I’ve also converted him into an LS lover just by talking about them and telling him how modular and adaptable they are and what about them inherently makes them so strong and good. I don’t even own an LS! I had one at one point but no more.

lmfao I love that moment at 10:10.... when it started clicking into place why so many people talk about LS swapping and call them legendary powerhouses. "They have six bolt mains?!" lmfao I was smiling so hard during that moment since it reminded me of the same thing I went through.... you see all the qualities that go into a racing engine and then look at the LS and it's selection of GM parts from all the various models and you just start getting uncontrollably giddy.

Man I wish you guys had a shop close by in NC! It seems the dealership missed so much with my 2008 1500 Silverado with a 5.3l engine with 181,500+ miles. They tell me the rough idle, excessive exhaust vapor, gas smell, and dimming lights is normal and can't find anything wrong, but I know it's not. They missed a burnt up head light harness, buzzing cabin ambient temperature sensor, and wobbly harmonic balancer. I fixed most of the issues, (broken transmission and engine oil tubs, ignition coils, spark plugs, wires, door harness and actuator, a ground fault, evap canister, purge valve, charcoal canister, all vacuum hoses, intake manifold gaskets, injectors, MAP and IACT sensors, blower motor fan, alternator, blown fuses, broken door handle and cable, faulty window and lock switches) but that idle eludes me and seems that it kills batteries without a parasitic draw. I can't get a check engine light to come one, only a "tighten fuel cap" light. I do hear a "bubbling" and "gurgling noise on the driver's side while on park and the idle is really bad will at stop lights. I wouldn't mind paying the money to have someone like y'all to look at it!
@walasiewicz

That motor wasn't smoking that's totally normal to have carbon on the top of pistons with almost 200,000 miles. That engines in great shape internally

haha, crank bolts are a pain without an impact. I broke a few sockets and a rachet trying to get the one off my Toyota 3.0. I ended up building a tool to bolt to the PS pulley holes on the crank pulley and used that keep the crank from turning while I loosened the bolt. Bought an impact socket too, even though I was taking it off with a rachet.

A trick to take off the hormonic balancer bolt if you don't have an impact, is to use a big pipe wrench and attach it to the pully on the hormonic balancer ( if you're reusing the part, put a rag on it b/c the pipe wrench teeth will dig into the pulley groves). Then turn the pipe wrench in the opposite direction of the breaker bar.

At 175k miles unless it has low oil pressure or a mechanical issue the LS doesn't require a rebuild. My dad had 410k miles on his engine and it burned a little oil. Besides oil consumption it was pretty clean and needed only head rebuilding, rings, bearings and an oil pump. Thing still runs today.
