If you use rifle specific 22 magnum ammo the gap between it and 5.7 velocity wise is a little bit closer. That being said the 22 magnum load your testing had a very soft projectile and damage on that 22 mag was amazing. I love 22 magnum with the right loads for home defense. Id use that 22 mag load for defense in a Ruger 10-22 magnum or a CMR 30. Nice video sir.

The 22 magnum is a much better, and more versatile, small game/varmint hunting round with bullet weights, bullet construction, speed, and power level choices. But, to me, there is little doubt about the 5.7”s superiority for self defense applications. I just don’t understand why there are no light weight carry pistol options made in this caliber. It seems near perfect for the task. I have been waiting for such developments, as I wanted to get some pistols for my daughters in this caliber. But, by the time it happens, if ever, It won’t matter. I wanted a bolt gun in the 5.7 caliber for a while too, but in all honesty, the 22 hornet is far better anyway. Thanks for the video.

You tested the NEW version of this load, the original had 6 petals compared to 4 now, and it is a little slower. Further, it used to say "not for use in rotating feed design of P90 magazine". Probably still the case. Add in the price and I would add this to the pile of "just not worth it." Hornady just released 2 new rounds, but I have my doubts they will be anything special either, and they come in 25 per box.

5.7 prices are going down, and we're getting more selection. Cheapest I found so far is 40 cents/round. Also, you can actually get hardened tip rounds on the 5.7 for armor penetration (but $$$$$). A more capable round if you want to use it for self defense. For me it seems like if you just wanna shoot stuff at the range along with varmints, then 22 mag all day long. But for self defense I'd never consider 22 mag over 5.7. Thanks for the comparison!!

I think a tool everyone can use easily might have some advantages. Also that green tipped stuff looks to be on another level.

When people say the 5.7 is equal to the .22 mag it's true and false... A 5.7 from a pistol barrel is equal to a .22 mag from a rifle far as numbers go, but the 5.7 starts to obviously beats the .22 mag as barrel length increases.

Looks like going from .22 Mag to 5.7x28 buys you an extra 300-350 fps in both pistols and rifles.

Appears to be great varmint options with both. But seems that either would be viable self defense if they are reliable. I would be curious how reliable that KelTec is. Does anyone know if Speer makes a 22 magnum Gold Dot for rifles? Thanks
@ToolsandTargets
@ToolsandTargets Год назад
This Keltec has been flawless so far. One of the most grabbed guns by everybody when I bring it out. As far as a different Gold Dot .22mag, I think that this is the only version they make but not positive on that.🤔

Got say both did what they where supposed to do. I'm not fan of 5.7 to me it would make a awesome trapline gun at must. What I stick to about the 5.7 kind just a centerfire 22mag. That 22mag bullet their like that would be the answer for vermint hunting bc damage. Even that load 5.7 out say a pc carbine be a awesome coyote killer.

Still the WMR for me. However an absolute great comparison my friend. Really like the results of both. Most of my shooting is watching the bottles, cans, walnuts, clay pigeons and etc. go pop. The WMR vaporizes walnuts and is good practice for hunting. Really would like to get my hands on the new Ruger LC Carbine in 5.7 then try them out too. Just won’t be able to shoot as many at that ammo price for 5.7. Anyway, way to go another awesome test. Appreciate ya. Be safe. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😎

Keep up the good work Tools. I like being able to see the real world results. In pistols the .22 mag hands down. I bet we will see similar results in the rifles too. The 5.7 ammo is watered down like the off the shelf 10 mm. If I wanted a neutered round I would just shoot off the shelf 10mm.

5.7 is made to be used in the P90 with its ~10 inch barrel. The handgun is an afterthought, and the performance here really shows it.
