I got the Thorlos after watching your last video. Paid like 20€(25$) here in Europe for each pair and thought it was pretty expensive but it turned out to be worth every penny and I really love them. I can play 3 hour matches without even thinking about blisters. Thanks for the unique content you create.
Thanks I appreciate the kind words, yeah with thorlo you’re definitely getting what you pay for- can’t believe how great they feel after one year of playing them still
Adding Artengo gear from Decathlon to your tests would really help some international viewers. Decathlon has a lot of market penetration at reasonable prices in underserved regions like Asia and SA where Wilson, Adidas, Babolat, etc all come with import markups
I remember Thorlo from middle school basketball ( I'm 43 ) It was the only sock that I could wear without getting blisters. Everyone else had to double up.
I was suffering from ankle soreness from basketball so I purchased a pair of Lasso socks. It advertised it is supposed to mimic having your ankles taped. Although after repeated uses I don’t completely agree with these claims I did find them to be very supportive. I still have some minor ankle soreness after basketball games but it is sufficiently less. Although not perfect, the Lasso socks are best socks I ever purchased.
just found you in my rec list and binged like 10 videos, exactly what I was looking. Basketball specific reviews from a podiatrist. Thanks for the content! Also FYI: amazon unavailable for the new balance socks btw.
I’ve been buying a ton of basketball shoes, like an idiot, always complaining that I keep getting blisters. I would always talk down on the shoe, never once considering my extremely cheap socks that I wear on my feet to play. You just saved me from going back online and looking for more shoes that don’t blister or chafe my feet. Thank you! Lol
I know I'm late to the party, but the Hydroshields you mentioned have been my absolute favourite I've ever tried and I think they're now... discontinued?? May you kindly confirm this? Thanks for the amazing content!
Hey Doc, bought the Solinco socks based on your recommendation and they've been the best socks for hooping in my lifetime. Keep doing good work! Appreciate you
Alpha skin is the only sock I can wear comfortably in the heat over here. I’m a heavy sweater and was having to change my socks every set unless I wanted it to be squish squish every step. Don’t get me wrong my shoes are still wet at the end of a match so if there’s someone who sweats more than me or Jack sock you might have to play tennis with Kleenex boxes on your feet.
Hey Doc, could you do a video on conventional socks (The socks that you have in the list) vs anti-slip socks (where they have rubber to prevent glidiing) on their effect of preventing blister? There are two anti-slip socks that I would recommend having review, one is `RTP ultraGrip Sock`, the other one is `GearxPro`. I generally find wearing anti-slip socks helps reduce blister for me, but not sure if it's Placebo effect.
All the literature on it at the moment points to small but noticeable increases in stability within the shoe but not between the foot and- shoe unit and the ground so I’d say they’re worth a shot but may only help certain people
Never purchased the Thorlos or the Lasso socks yet but I'm well aware of them and want to eventually get some pairs! With that being said I'm a basketball player/coach and I wear the Adidas Creator 365, and Point 3 Impact socks. I must have about 20 pairs combined! The Point 3 socks are my go-to currently for basketball though! Great sock and has that lower mid look which I prefer. Another pair of socks that I have 6+ pairs of is the white UA Playmaker crew socks (I only buy the white 😆).
They arnt tennis socks but if you ever get a chance to try some darn tough wool socks id be curious to hear what you think. I use them for mountain biking, hiking, and now a bit of tennis. I just need to find some good tennis shoes for mid to wide feet now.
Another important point when evaluating Thorlo Socks is that they are completely lax in the Achilles heel area and do not put any pressure on the tendon
Hey man great video and thanks for the recommendations. Was wondering if you’d be posting the Q&A, you gave helpful tips on ball of feet blisters from micro chafing during basketball. Thanks.
I’m going to post it in a story- the livestream got corrupted of course as soon as it finished so thats why i just recorded a video- but yes ill be putting it back up on the story feature as soon as i can grab the footage
I sweat more than any one I know, and my shoes leave pools off sweat after each step, what would be a good shoe that wicks away sweat and stays lightweight throughout the match
No shoe will wick sweat like a sock or shirt/ shorts will but a the vapors pro is probably the most efficient at heat exchange followed by the head revolt pro
Is this from sweat running down your legs into your shoes or your feet sweating? Or both? Powder in your shoes and try an antiperspirant on your feet. There are a number of products for problem sweating of hands & feet
Hi Zach! I have two doubts about socks that maybe you could shed some light on it: 1) What do you think about compression socks like Decathlon's RS900, worth it or gimmick? 2) I've also seen some special socks called gripper (or anti-slip) socks that contain some rubber points/dots at the bottom which supposedly helps your foot to stay in place inside the shoes? Did you have the chance to check or review any of these?
The compression socks are basically all the same so if you get one you’ve gotten them all IMO just depends on durability - I also love the rubber nubbs on socks- love the lack of friction and heat it helps with - bad part is is that it wears down then they’re just like any other- adidas does a nice job of these with the horizontal stripes of grip
I pretty much never recommend wool in my videos just because of the risk of allergy/ irritation in some people - I’d rather have a cotton / synthetic blend but that’s just me- that being said they are very very very comfortable
@@FootDoctorZach totally makes sense - good point. Thanks again for your awesome and informative content. Count me as a person who has personally seen positive change with a shoe and orthotic adjustment based on decisions I’ve made and applied after learning from the knowledge and expertise that you have shared.
you’re right in the middle - I’d see how your other socks fit and go from there- also every company is different so I’d check sizing on the companies website
Doc what are best casual socks, is there some material that you or ratio that you found that the best socks are? I just bought vans socks, seems like they have diffrent type of elastane.
Hey, big hot weather trail runner here in Phoenix. 1st love was always basketball. I trail run in darn tough socks and never blister even after 20 miles in the canyon. Picking up basketball again and I was wearing my NBA stance socks with my kd 13s. Bottom of big toes blistered and peeled skin off bad. Would the darn tough socks work for basketball or do you think it was the kds? I play on my forefoot mostly. 5'8 185lbs Tia!
Thank you, they’re good just as long as you can find a pair that’s not too thin - most toe socks come pretty thin to get all that material in them so they’ll rip quick in side to side sports like tennis / hoops
Hi like always great video!!! I bought a pair of Thorlo. Great cushioning but my feet did not fit in my tennis shoes 😔😬 I must go a size bigger in my tennis shoes???
@@FootDoctorZach I don't wear high socks, I only wear quarter height or no-show socks. I don't like the feeling of something tight around my calves and I don't want a tan line by my calves.
what do you think of grip socks? i play soccer and and getting into tennis and my goto is definitely the nikegrip socks nike makes for soccer. better than the adidas for me but haven't played tennis with the two yet
@@FootDoctorZach thank you sir, Tennis dreamers like me living in third world countries couldn't really afford this costly big brand tennis equipments. Your assurance has really made me happy. Looking forward for the review. 🙏 🇮🇳
Hi Zach What, in your opinion are the pros and cons of wearing 2 pairs of socks. Federer seems to do that. I thought of wearing thin toe socks as a first layer and then normal socks over them. The toe socks help me to manage rubbing caused by knobbly bits of bone between a couple of toes. However, the toe socks are a bit thin at the ends of the toes and I get some blisters there. Two pairs of sock might be worth a try. What do you think? I did try that out, in fact, but the shoes were tight. I could go up a half size to accommodate the two pairs but I wonder if it’s worth it. Best wishes Steve
2 socks imo is a good option for blister relief because it pads as well as creates an air pocket so less friction - I have a video on this about keeping your feet cool as well- it’s not for everyone but I did it all though college tennis and I have alot of patients do it as well
Kind of a weird question, but ahve you ever had socks pull on your leg hairs and cause irritation? If so is there a relatively simple solution or a sock that won't do that?
I run in these socks all the time- running socks will be alittle breezier which is nice but I’d rather have a hoop/ tennis sock any day for the other benefits
Yep I love your review but here's one out of the box. I would love a review or suggestion of a great sock for just laying around the house. Now you may ask wtf are you on Charles. But here's my point. I have some messed up feet, ankles and yada yada yada and just wearing these crappy Hanes I get the grip where the sock actually makes a indentation and swells my legs. Anyhoo. I or anyone else I am sure could use a nice lounging sock that is comfortable and maybe doesn't cause swelling or and just isn't a piece of garbage like Hanes. Anyway thanks again for this video sir much appreciated.
The swelling issue I’m not sure because all legs are different and the swelling could be from a whole host of things so I’d consult with your family doctor on that particular issue but in terms of socks for kicking around I’d still probably go with thorlo
@@FootDoctorZach Appreciate the recc. I agree I probably need to see my ortho but sometimes I wonder if the bad news angel is always sitting on his shoulder. I am new to your channel and I really do like your videos.
little off topic of this video but I have pretty wide really bad feet and feel like I've tried every shoe and almost nothing doesn't hurt my feet do you have any suggestions on tennis shoes I have already been to the podiatrist and got custom orthotics but they don't really help. The only shoes that slightly worked for me is the New balance 1006s 2e but they just don't have enough support for me. Thanks love the vids!
I play squash 5-6 days a week and need the best padded sock (or I'd wear 2 pairs of socks) and feel tender on the balls of my feet, so padding is high priority; which of these would you recommend thanks.
Do you have any recommendation(s) for thinner basketball socks? I have Nike Elite socks right now, but find they are are bit thick because of the padding i guess. \
So I just watched the potential vapor cage 5 video and the shoe Nadal was wearing looked a lot like the shoe he wore at the laver cup 2019, so was it the same shoe or a different one
A little different - it’s the same batch of materials constantly being reworked and used in different ways - I’m sure the final product will be different though
Can i wear Thorlos for bball ? I have a really painful black toe (on my big toe) from playing bball in my curry 8s 🙁 It feels like it’s coming from my toe hitting the front of the shoe box … i felt it saving a ball out of bounds and also with hard start/stops and cuts like euros … I wore double under armour socks so idk if it’s the shoes or maybe from wearing double socks but it’s a constant problem with my currys and really affecting my game 😔 Do you recommend a specific shoe for this problem ? (Considering the Luka 1s, Jordan 37s, or JB 1s)
@@FootDoctorZach I’ve battle tested the Thorlos bball 🏀 socks … Amazing comfort and padding … a huge improvement regardless from basic sports brands crew socks … But only complaint … they slide all around on my foot and in my shoe which throws off the fit … they get all sideways especially when playing competitively Idk what to do … other than that they are perfect .. they basically feel like double socks on steroids like a cloud I guess id say they dont fit tight enough or something … best socks I’ve ever played in regardless so I’m happy with the purchase until i find something more optimal … do recommend Ordered 3 pairs initially and another 3 after shooting around in them because i loved them so much … just started noticing the “slipping issue” *they will improve your jump shot* (i recommend bringing an extra pair to swap out to stay fresh/dry) Side note: could just be sweat issue so I’m going to try getting dry feet spray and swapping fresh socks after about 30 or 45 min or 1 hour after play
this video will show you how to match the shape of your foot with any shoe you may be looking at online ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sqn8k3tVl6c.html
I hate all of these kinds of socks with "extra" stuff like padding and moisture wicking. I find that that the more a sock claims to be moisture wicking, the more they make my feet feel like they're suffocating in a hot moist swamp. The best, most comfortable socks are always the ones that are extremely thin, with no frills of "features". Generally, a sock is at it's most comfortable RIGHT before it finally falls apart. If I could find a sock that was thin enough to feel like it was always on the verge of disintegrating, that would change my life. Get all these other socks out of my sight.
@@FootDoctorZach oddly enough, I think I'm actually describing panty hose. is it weird that I was tempted to buy some today at CVS and then trim them down to ankle length?
I used to always double up when I played tennis in college so I like the padding and feel but it’s all personal preference - but yeah it does ease the break in
@@FootDoctorZach they are a really big thing in the soccer world. Pro players wear them without endorsement they are such a good product. They make a shoe that’s not a perfect fit feel like a perfect fit and a shoe that is a perfect fit feel like an even more perfect fit. They are awesome. Josh from Soccer Reviews for you (very big and unbiased soccer review channel) has said he can’t do accurate reviews while wearing them because they make shoes feel so much better as a default. Don’t know why they aren’t a thing in the tennis world with all our lateral cuts and stuff. An impression/review would be awesome!
