Doing the plank to down dog, I shouldn't protract before pushing down and back, right? Just neutral shoulders and push down and back into down dog. Is that right? No protract first?
Lori, actually, you do protract the shoulder blades in this exercise because we are specifically focusing on engaging the serratus anterior muscle. Normally, in a yoga practice for example, we would maintain neutral shoulder position and simply push down and back.
Excellent video! I've had chest minor strain for a few years. I feel like the scapula winging is what's causing it. Does that sound correct and by fixing the winging is it likely to take to strain off the chest minor?
TheGmiah, yes, it is definitely possible for scapula winging to be related to pectoralis minor strain. A pec strain might also cause scapular winging... it could go both ways. Fixing the scapular winging will help restore balance between the pec muscles and the mid back muscles, so yes, I think this program will help your chest strain.
