I decided to only eat savory breakfasts, nothing sweet. I have fallen in love with cottage cheese with a variety of chopped vegetables, especially cucumber and tomatoes. I then add chia seeds and some salt free everything but the bagel seasoning. Add in some whole grain toast with avocado and I am set for the morning. Excellent video! Very inspirational.
I'll never skip any ads from your chanel even do i:ll never see it properly because of my blurred vision but in lisning it's loud and clear Doc. Waching in the Philippines.
The truth is eating excess fat causes type 2 diabetes. Carbohydrates only elevate your blood sugar because the fat is preventing glucose uptake into your cells. This is disease management, not reversal or treatment.
@@taramoon9307 My diabetes was diagnosed after I had my thyroid and parathyroid glands removed. It was not as a result of eating excess fat. Prior to my operation my blood sugar levels were completely normal.
Rosie S I agree. My Dad got hypertension when we were kids so we grew up avoiding salty and fatty foods but still got diabetes in my 40s. Though both our parents grew old not having this.
I love getting all this information on what to eat and what not to eat. I was diagnosed as pre diabetic. There is so much to learn about learning to learn how to eat again.
Thank you, Doc. I stopped eating cereal about four years ago. I usually eat 2 poached eggs, some roasted chicken or turkey, and sliced tomato. Works wonders.
I drink coffee with a little milk in it. That is my only vice. Milk in my coffee. I don’t even use sugar substitute. You can add a avocado to the plate. I hate avocado, but it is healthy. I’ll switch it up and instead of tomato, I’ll use cucumber, carrots, or raw bell peppers.
You’re welcome. I hope it helps. Tea will work too. I drink my tea with nothing in it. I love the earthy flavor. You can get creative with the plate. Tomorrow morning, when I get home from work, I am going to use spinach instead of tomato. You can use what ever you like. Enjoy, good luck, and I hope I helped. God Bless.
Hi Doc. Fruit spiked my blood sugar with no time. So, I kept fruit, juicessss, and carb out of my diet. I can try all berries. Break-fast bacon, eggs, and avocado will not spike my sugar level and keep me full for a while. Thank you very much for tips and shared your knowledges.
I have never really liked cereal…yuck! Even in my 50’s when I go home mom always asks if I’d like cereal for breakfast, and the answer is always no thankyou. She thinks my dislike is so strange lol. Even as a kid I didn’t like it. I’d much rather have a thin piece of homemade bread toast with slices of tomato or an egg. I do enjoy fruit, especially apples to name one. I have a vegetable garden ( fairly large) every year, so we really enjoy fresh produce, and I can a lot of it for winter and put potatoes in the cellar. I do a lot of homemade meals, as I’m not one to eat out very often at all. Thankyou for confirming my dislike for cereal lol.
Thanks to Leeann Hogan if you are reading this channel.. I have forever quit meats. Almost all dairy. But someone said almond milk is great. So I bought some. I.am.not sure if I should be drinking any milk. There .is no yogurt that.s non dairy is there?? I still picked up a few Greek. low calorie yogurt. .No more 2 cupcakes per week at supermarket. Tempting. but I have firmly resolved not to.. Thanks for your caring attitude. Lots of love...
Britain we eat cereal and usually on a Sunday a cooked breakfast so bacon sausage fried egg maybe black pudding fried bread or toast some have baked beans mushrooms
As a diabetic, I find that if I have a small portion of a whole-grain carb (such as an English Muffin or oatmeal) along with a protein and a safe fruit, then I don't spike too much. Then I strive to stay away from carbs as much as possible the rest of the day.
You don’t spike too much, but still, your blood glucose spikes. That’s still not good. Diabetics, of which I am one, are best served to stay away from carbs and sugars. I got serious about cutting carbs and sugars a year ago and have now reduced my A1C to below the diabetes threshold, reduced my meds to only one pill a day (soon to be none), and lost 40lbs.
@@maxcuthbert100, it can be done. Diabetes is a metabolic disease. If we don’t eat foods that increase our blood glucose our A1C drops. I think of it as if my diabetes is a slow motion allergy. It’s not, but that’s the mind set I use. If I had an allergy and ate something I reacted to it would be an acute reaction, however, with diabetes the reaction is much slower and the damage chronic. Still damaging, but we don’t feel it the same way. Would I love to shovel down a slice of pecan pie? Hell yes. But it wouldn’t be good for me in the long run.
@@flairball Could you give us all a link to some kind of guide re. what to eat ? It's easy enough to say'no carbs or sugars' but navigating that in daily life can be quite a feat. Thanks !
I totally agree. I used to take Kellogg's Corn Flakes for breakfast & always it used to spike my blood sugars even though this was the plain corn flakes not the frosties one that have coated sugars outside of it. Avoid cereals completely that are processed. I prefer museli (sugar free) or oats ❤️

I use my Vitamix to make a celery smoothie. It’s not strained so the pulp fiber is left in it. I really love it but probably not a good idea, right? 🥬🍎🥕🥒🍋 3 ribs of celery 1 apple with core and skin 2 medium carrots 1/2 cucumber 1 tsp ginger or some ginger root Juice from half a lemon
I agree with that when I found out I was a diabetic I'd quit eating french toast completely and I stopped eating pancakes too cuz I figured out that's what was causing me to say heavy and the health problem
Most of this I already knew. I learned years ago that I had to eat protein for breakfast or my sugar would bottom out mid morning (this was long before I was diabetic. I will have to try steel cut oats, because I gave up regular oatmeal, along with all cereal, toast, fruit, juice, and all the other tasty things. I never have more than a couple bites of any fruit, and never have bread. I used to love baking treats for friends and family, but that went, too. My diet is a little monotonous these days, but my A1C is 5.2 (the high was 13), and ALL my lab work falls in the normal range. The real game changer for me was FreeStyle Libre - you can lie to yourself, but the reality is right there.
The reality is you're simply masking the underlying problem which is cellular lipidosis. Stop eating excess fat so your body can actually utilize the carbohydrates you eat for energy.
Hi doc, I am a Canadian clinical dietitian , I don’t work in diabetes. I agree with your information. A lot of the time, people have no clue what healthy eating means. The marketing to promote junk is unreal. The price of food, lack of skills to prepare whole food is also unreal. There is a huge need for education. We live in a society of instant gratification. We have a very high level of working poor and high level of low literacy. Also, a lot of stress in families, divorced parents etc etc and in USA no universal medical coverage. I worked in USA 2 years, I know the difference. Keep up your excellent work. I am a fan.
@@raysmusic49 Yes. I suppose low glycemic fruits and as the doctor says, more complex carbs like steel cut oats. Unsweetened yogurt with berries, nuts and seeds.
Dr. Ergin, I purchased your ADVANCED Glucose support tablets & I love them !!! I got great results from them. Thank you for your passion in helping people with diabetes….

To annoying in his disgast! What ever we lived on diffefferents we ate!! So he said is not eat what we loved to eat?? Now were dome to the facts he said it??! The ways things is to secured our health none others.but none logic.
Why does my blood sugar increase 40 points after waking in the morning, even if I eat nothing. Ex. 7:00 - 135, 10:00 _175. I can't do anything to change this. Thanks for your help. I take 2,000 metformin a day. This is with eating or not eating. I increase 40 points regardless after waking, for the next 3 hours. Thanks for your help.
I can pic the avocados from the trees here if i see them, but hot weather, high humidity, they ripen real fast sometimes, and sometimes you eat half of one put it on the fridge and it turns to the consistency hard plastic
Ful fat milk is ok .. long strand fat akes long time to brake down ... why coconut oil is good to take each day .. attaches to other fats making them long strand and harder to break down into sugar ..
I have been trying a low carb keto diet for the past year in hoping to lose weigh and lower my blood sugar. I have lost 55 pounds so far. I once weighed 400lbs during co-vid. I am in a wheelchair so walking is a big problem. I have type 2 diabetes. I eat eggs in the morning and a salad between meals. I do eat steel cut oats with either apple or maple extract and sweet with splenda. I drink almond milk unsweeten with vanilla.
I had diabetes type 2 for over 20 years and were on heavy medication. I tried all ways featured in the net for many years and never got a positive result. I even tried no carbo for 6 months and it didn't work for me. I was feeling very frustrated and one day I decided I just live like I have no diabetes but will change my eating habit a bit here and there. I cut down on sugar by 80% and eat smaller portion of meals. I did take fruit juice but cereal, flavored yogurt, pancakes/french toast and smoothies are not in my menu. I discarded all my diabetic medication and a nurse warned me that without treatment my kidneys might be affected. It has been over 10 years now, I am living without diabetes.
Dr. Ergin, what about celery juice with green apples and ginger? I heard that celery juice is anti-inflammatory and helps with bringing down cholesterol. This seems to help with arthritis in my hands. Also, juicing oranges with fresh ginger juice and fresh turmeric seem to help with anti-inflammation ? For breakfast I make a smoothie with fresh berries, ginger, plant protein, chia seeds, and Greek yogurt. Is this allowed with Type2? Why is steel cut oats ok and not regular oatmeal (not instant of course). Any advice would be helpful. Thank you!
Hey Doc! Do you have any info on pre-breakfast morning spikes for type 1? How can I make them smaller? I have to shoot up and wait for my sugar to subside before I can eat breakfast.
Think, research, act. I have looked in to diabetes since I found out that I had it. The number one problem I see is we eat way to much, and way to often. There have been many people that have lost a significant amount of weight and found that their blood sugar dropped drastically. I have found this to be personally true. Supersize me is a really bad idea. I enjoyed what your had to say it was very good. I do however disagree on some small points. In the end I think to most important aspect of this whole diabetic issue is to find a health diet and STICK to it.
I’ll add ground cinnamon, a sliced banana, and unsweetened almond milk to my oatmeal for breakfast! Then for lunch and dinner I’ll load up protein and veggies and an apple a day! Actually my blood sugar levels stayed fairly low during a week of Cheerios and almond milk! Avoid milk from a cow whenever possible!
Thank you Dr Ergin for helping us control our Diabetes. Good to have found your channel. Recently I ran out my equal sugars and have been replacing it with organic honey thought it was better than both white and brown refined sugars! Now you mentioned something out adding honey to pancakes is suicidal???? Please help! Also where I come from we eat rice daily for lunch. Can I continue but in smaller portion or stop altogether?
This doctor should come right out and tell people how American cereal that is sold around the world is essentially processed food and loaded with sugar. There are healthy cereals made in Germany and other European countries that diabetics can eat. There are also non sugar cornflakes and shredded wheat. As long as you keep your portions small there’s no problem. It’s the same for everyone, eat sensibly and live well.
Hi my father's 90yrs old and has stage 4 kidney failure. Can you please give me a list of what he is able to eat .I would appreciate any help thankyou.
I must be doing something right. My blood glucose usually drops after breakfast. I have a bit of tofu scrambled with tomato, zucchini (or bok choy), garlic, and some other spices (chile and chipotle), fruit, and either toast with with lots of whole grains and seeds or a muffin I make using almond flour. It is very filling and I never get tired of it. If this appeals to you, give it a try.
Agree with the cereal, however I make my own granola which includes rolled outs, paleo mix nuts, sunflower seed, pumpkin seed and I throw a few almonds then dabble some coconut oil or shredded coconut and heat in oven for 10mins. I will add half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder for flavour.
I love homemade pancakes but not the store bought one.. so i can control amount of sugar to mix in,not more than a teaspoon and I don’t use any syrup sweetener for toppings , I top it off with fruits like fresh berries and chopped nuts…is this still a bad breakfast idea?
I love love your channel , your so informative and I’ve learned so much. On top of that your funny and easy on the eyes. Thank you for all you teach us. I desperately want to lower my A1c with my diet and wanting to loose weight . I’ve had gastric bypass,,done it all …went to weight watchers when I was 11. Fed the same as my sisters but they had a thin father,my father was heavy his whole life.I was always the one to work out always on low carb low calorie diets. I’ve been thin and medium and now big again. I am a young looking 61 but so tired of this and I want to eat healthy and not do anymore fad excessive diets . So I’m going to watch all your videos, I believe your on point, more than so many Ive listened to. Your so easy to listen to and not boring. I hit the like button on all so far and subscribed. Thank you again .
Steel cut oats with fruit and unsweetened soy milk every other morning. No juice at all, just coffee. Next day a couple eggs with a piece of toast or half a bagel and some sausage. Love it! What is your issue with old fashioned rolled oats though???
Hi just found your channel. I've been type 2 since 2005. Went Vegan a few years ago. Big difference, but after pandemic, back on insulin. I am 69. What happened? Only 1 meal a day.
On my pancakes and french toast I top them with avocado and tomatoes. Also I add 1tblsn of buckwheat flour to regular mix. Also sunflower seeds, chopped nuts, sesame seeds, flax seeds etc.
On days that i feel my sugar level is high, i can't handle my hunger 😑 is it normal? [(When I'm dieting very strict and sugar level is normal i don't feel as much hunger)]
What about juice from fresh vegetables and herbs like a green juice with spinach, celery, parsley, cucumber, ginger and a green apple? Or freshly squeezed orange juice?
I love porridge or overnight oats with nuts and berries but I am lactose intolerant. I use oat milk or soya milk (unsweetened) is there a better milk alternative that won’t raise my sugar as much?
Iv been diabetic 47 yrs on pump for 17yrs .if not for the pump i would be dead. I have coffee with creamer and a lil toast and 1/2 banana for breakfast midmorning milk and fruit. Thanks for the info. You are right about the Carbs in America. I've found that going with a regime of NO GPS. That's No Grains, Potatoes or Sugar. Learning about Keto and Paleo regimes helps as guidelines. There are products that help with the transition from Wheat to Almond Flour. Good luck !
My mom has 1/4c frozen blueberries, 3/4c plain Greek yogurt w/2 tbsp of ground flax seed along with a spinach mushroom mozzarella cheese two egg omelet and 1/2 an avocado for breakfast.
I used to love eating all these but now stopped. I do eat whole fruits . I love oatmeal in the morning sometimes but no more sugar 😕 i did start adding fruits to it or cinnamon. Ill have to try these overnight oats thanks for your video
I like cereal bc of the crunchiness… what would be a healthy breakfast food with crunch? Tbh that’s why it’s hard for me to stop eating chips etc…the crunch …
Your video are wonderful as they help demystify this disease as well as not blaming the person as other videos do. Thanks for all that you do and keeping us inspired to do better.
You are fully right, those foods and drinks are not good for diabetics. I tried to eat pancakes with syrup and drink pineapple juice, my blood sugar was horrible high 166-170 😳😅 I won‘t do that again !!!!!!
@@cincin4515 well a lot of people are mental here in the USA because they will have doughnuts or any sweet bread with their coffee early in the morning
2/3 of the carbs for breakfast as, Cut oats, and/or Bulgar oats, put them in the microwave the night before, and microwave for a few minutes to soak them overnight. In the morning, add ground chia seeds, hemp hearts, flax seed meal, some dextrin, a couple of grams of cinnamon, and a bit of Splenda. Add water to make it kind of thick, and microwave that for a few minutes and then add a pat of butter, and stir it in, cook in the microwave for two more minutes. Make a microwave, egg-beaters omelet with a bit of good cheese, and you have breakfast. Long slow glucose curve, and a slow drop down at the end in mid afternoon. When it’s lunch time.
