I was a borderline diabetic for years. Twenty years ago I crossed the border. Information on diabetes was scarce back then. A close friend who was also diabetic offered me this advice, read the labels if it goes over five grams of sugar avoid it. That has been my guide for twenty years. I am thankful we have your videos available nowadays to update and improve our control of diabetes. Thank You!
Thank you for sharing. This information is very helpful. I was just diagnosed and was not given any instructions except more exercise and take my meds. It's rare to find a doctor who wants to help anymore.
Thanks for providing a balance to all the low carb videos. I'm 56 years old, and I have eaten a high (good) carb diet my whole life. I have never been overweight and my blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure are all perfect.
Thank you so much for all that you are teaching us. Most times when you are diagnosed with diabetes it seems like our lives are over. But I have gotten so much info from you. I consider it a positive lifestyle change
Thank You Doc… i’m not diabetic but I always follow your suggestions trying to prevent Diabetes! I believe diabetes is the root of all illnesses in most cases.. not all but mostly
Great suggestions Dr. Ergin thank you! I’ll have to try that Kodiak mix. Just saw it in Safeway a few days ago. I had all but banished pancakes from my diet. Glad to know I can enjoy them occasionally. I’m so glad yogurt is ok. I usually have plain Greek yogurt with either strawberries or blueberries and a small sprinkle of unsweetened oat granola. After I got used to the tart taste it’s actually yummy! Thx for sharing the tips. 😊
Thank you so much for these reminders! Thanks to your videos, I have educed my insulin by 30%, my A1C has dropped from 13.7 to 6.8, and I have included these great carbs in moderation to my diet. Your videos have made such a tremendous difference. 💖🥰
You can make almond flour pan cake for syrup simple homemade strawberry blueberry or raspberry chopped strawberries cup and 2 stevia bring to boil and add 1 TBS of lemon juice same goes with the other berries goes great with peach
I feel so much better hearing the items mentioned being safe to eat. Soooo much mis-information out there. This video has made my day! Thank you! Thank you!
Pumpkin is great as a roast vege. Take a ripe pumpkin and split it, leave the skin on, remove all the seeds [ turn them into pumpkin seed snacks ] and the soft flesh that surrounds them. Cut the pumpkin into serving pieces [ I normally cut them into 1" by 2" chunks ], place skin side down on to an oiled roasting pan, spray with a good oil and then sprinkle with both black pepper and turmeric. Roast at 240C 460F for about 45 minutes. I used to cook this when cheffing for a church meal out reach and we seldomly had any left over. Any that are left over are nice smeared over hot toast for breakfast.
Thank you for the suggestions. Since we are all different, we need to try the items you mention and test blood sugar afterwards. Some will spike, others will not. Some we will like, others we will not. Experiment!
All I got to say is thank you and you are the man sir for all your wisdom and knowledge and I am taking it to heart since I've been type 2 for 18 years finally got off my metformin I lost like 15 lb s but I'm on glipizide and elica I think it is anyhow big fat thumbs up sir 👍🏿👍🏼👍🏻👍🏾👍👍👍🏻👍🏾👍🏼
I am not diabetic but it runs in the family. I use Kodiak pancake mix with almond flour, coconut flour, egg, cottage cheese, cinnamon, vanilla, olive oil, and whole milk. I only use a heaping teaspoon of each flour. Peanut butter makes a good topping (no sugar added). Of course I love maple syrup (half a tablespoon), but a keto syrup would be good, like Choczero.
Thats correct I have diabetes, last April I stopped eating too much processed foods and controlled my portion. A great suggestion from my doctor is buy a sugar monitor so I can see which food spikes my sugar.
Big thank you Doctor for sharing this valuable information...you make a difference to so many newly diagnosed patients with each video posted..hats off to you Sir...heartfelt appreciation from me to you ...🙏🙋♀️💖
I make Almond flour waffles 🧇 it’s less then 10g carbs each and it’s so much healthier and fresh ingredients and easy to make. Theirs definitely high protein and fibre 🌰🥜🧇
1 month ago my doctor said my blood sugars hba1c 106 ( 11.8) . I changed my diet and started exercising and 4 weeks later I’m 12lb lighter ( from 180lbs) and my hba1c is down to 72
Carb for diabetec. 1.lentils- we cook it like a regular sautéed beans. 2.sweet potatoes, I eat this instead of any snack. Air fry it. 3 oatmeal, I eat this . 4. qiounoa , I don’t .5. Pumpkin mix with other veggies . 6. Yogurt. 7. Pan cakes I love it. Put agave instead.
Yes I like these oats from Quaker their plain as heck but they used to have these salty ones that were my favorite I’m a salty girl so I love love them! Their like square bites so good! I make all my coffee at home even my coffees if you add puréed pumpkin too ice cubes with some powder coffee it’s a delicious treat. I typically swap for a meal like lunch. Your channel has changed my life!
I do pancakes from scratch - use small amount of mollaes instead of vanila- and add a cup of instant potatoe flakes tn place of some flour- and add cinnamin too- usually do a big batch- freeze some- Iam a 85 yr old diabetic of about 21 yrs-
Sola Bread with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and eggs Cinnamon make the best French toast you will ever taste as a low carb eater 2net carbs Pair that with a good sugar free low carb Maple syrup The bread is like extra dense so it can soak up more of the milk in the egg which makes it so much better a little bit of butter in the Pan I like butter
Fat Free yogurt I add fresh fruit, and instead of straight artificial sweetener, I add a little bit of the artificial sweetener in the single serving Kool Aid type drinks ( usually 1/2 a single serving packet, the Walmart brand ) I like the orange, lemon, or lime drinks myself
I'm not diabetic, but I have hypoglycemia as a result of hoshimotoes. I don't eat lentils or other forms of brans much. I just simply font like them much. When I do eat them, I do a mix of lentuls, red and black beans, and maybe some navy beans. I've never liked pinto beans or most other types of beans. I've never tried quinoa, though I'd like to. With my oatmeal, I might add some raisons or berries with home made yogurt and stevia to sweeten. As for pumpkin, I always eat fresh or frozen because I don't like the tinny taste of canned. I do make pumpkin pie and breakfast muffins with it, but I also make pumpkin soup that tastes similar to tomatoes soup to eat with a grilled cheese ( I almost never do a plain grilled cheese and I use home made bread. I add fried eggs, turkey or ham, and maybe a slice of tomatoes). I also make a mean pumpkin beef stew full of veggies. I've eaten kodiak brand stuff, and it's pretty good. Though I've not made up their pancakes yet. I've got some of that mix though. When I do make pancakes, I make the batter myself using whole wheat or whole sprouted wheat flour sometimes with ground oats mixed in. I basically make a sourdough starter using gingerbug or home made komboocha as yeast and use that as my batter. I mix it up with what I top it with. I've done pb and j, honey( raw), or I've made it savory by cooking in the batter taco meat and some fermented peppers and topping with home made yogurt or sour cream. It's like more of a fluffy flatbread that way. So pancakes don't have to be sweet
Thank you for taking time out of your busy days to share relevant and important medical and health informations, Dr Ahmed. Since watching your videos, my blood glucose was so much better since I was diagnosed with T2D this year. I’m always looking forward to your next videos. Btw, What do you think of MCT oil? I see a lot of videos abt it and wanna know what you think about it. Just wanna be careful with informations people share on YT. Being a diabetic MD, the infos you share are the ones I listen to. Thanks again, Dr Ahmed🙏
Yeah hey doc! I have a recipe for a sweet potato bread. Now I know breads are not good for blood sugar, but I home grind a hard red winter wheat to make my flower and mix it with the sweet potatoes. They're the only two ingredients. the whole wheat and a sweet potato made into a small biscuits make a great bread. What's your thought on sweet potato biscuits?
Thank you. Wow just diagnosed Friday last with diabetes 😩 I have been researching until my eyes are so blurry. I’m so happy to find your channel Did I mention my heads spinning also with trying to adjust to not eating my favorite foods!
It is all about what is processed and absorbed faster and efficiently . Anything that is processed slowly and absorbed less. Thanks doctor , informative presentation 👍👍
I watch your videos and am very thankful for them. I am a type 2 diabetic, and have a question on the Kodiak waffle and pancake mix. You state that they have 15 carbs per serving. The box of buttermilk mix says 30 carbs and 2 fiber which is 28 net carbs not 15. Am I figuring that correctly? Thanks so much. Your baby is so good looking.
You're welcome @karenknechtel43. I'm happy to know that you found this video interesting and helpful. Please feel free to share this video with more people for them to enjoy and learn. I’m ecstatic to learn I can have these items! We were at the grocery earlier, & I was looking longingly at the sweet potatoes. Plus, I love yogurt & also quinoa & lentils. Thanks!
So I am thinking by adding almond milk and an egg will help the carbs go down a bit more plus you don't have to eat the whole serving. Thank you. I will give this a try!
So you are Turkish, that's why you are such a delight, but i wouldn't recommend lokum for a diabetic,as a pump u 500 insulin user I appreciate all the help I can get. Thank you.
Do you have a book out that has all this really good info. What state do you practise in.Thank you for your diligent work with these videos I find them very informative.
I don't like the taste of oatmeal, so I put coconut milk in it , cinnamon and fruits like apples, bananas, plums, etc. The leftover I use to add into smoothies.
Is using oat flour for a bread or muffins ok , eaten in portion control ? Maybe using pumpkin in an oat muffin or oat pumpkin cookies , using the Greek yogurt as the fat in the oat, sweet potato muffin. Or make a chaffle or waffle. I’m an experimental cook. So using oat flour I’m hoping is as good as eating a bowl of oats.
I can eat some of these without a blood sugar spike, but lentils caused a huge spike. It is important for each individual to test each of these foods individually.
'2 Good' makes flavored yogurt sweetened with only stevia that's only 2 grams of carbs and sugar. 'Siggis' brand makes a plain unsweetened yogurt that is only 5 gr carbs I believe and 12 gr protein.
Dr. Ergin, I have learned a lot from your videos. Thank you for all the information freely given. However, except for the yoghurt, I must refrain from eating the foods listed in this video. I do not eat a carbohydrate-free diet since all vegetables have some carbs but I aim for 20 grams or less daily when on a keto diet, and I use a blood glucose meter to check how much a meal spikes my blood sugar. I am sure that people who are less insulin resistant than me can enjoy these nutritious foods you recommend, but sadly for me, I can’t. I appreciate your friendly and non-judgemental manner of giving advice.

Hi Yes Im A Type one diabetic on an insulin pump plus I am on Jardiance 25 mg I would like to know how I could go about losing weight?? Do you have a video on RU-vid that gives you tips and things to do to help lose weight?
All the carbs you mention I cannot eat because Spike my insulin level too high high The only carbs I do eat is Basel sprouts cauliflower broccoli cabbage and Spanish without a spike
I made pumpkin soup last night and used the last bit of the puree for my breakfast muffin made with almond flour. Of course I used keto recipes but both were awesome. Thanks for reminding me about pumpkin.
@@rakeshmehta4556 easy. I use pumpkin puree. Not pie filling. Puree is just pumpkin. 1 can puree, 1 cup vegetable broth, 1 cup milk, 1 tsp cinnamon, salt, pepper, pinch ginger, 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice. Adjust seasonings to taste. Heat.
i looked up the carbs on your kodiak pancake & waffle mix - they are 30 carbs per 1/2 cup, i think that is kind of high. i am ordering the carquik baking mix - they have 16 carbs per 1/3 cup.
Yesterday I added avocado banana and applesauce on sweetened applesauce into my pancake mix along with an egg so I got a lot of protein and good sugars
those are some foods that seem to lower blood sugar.adzuki beans, didn't have bad reading from those ones. Just read articles online about infloresence coconut given to lab rats and it decreases blood sugar levels.coconut sugar is also recommended by canandian diabetes association. This is reassuring, since I noticed it lowered my blood sugar levels in comparison to artifical sweeteners which make me hungry. I guess like with everything you have to be moderate in everything, but I noticed it immediately with coconut sugar.
I've been having a hard time getting genuinely useful information about how to eat each and every day as a diabetic. I have the extra complication of gastroparesis but even without that, I mostly get told to keep carbs at a minimum and some very vague information about it all. You give very specific, actionable suggestions that are helping me widen my diet, which helps a lot. I still have to avoid the foods high in insoluble fiber but you're giving me plenty of options there.
Always do a 1 hour and 2 hour postprandial test for any food suggestion. Your blood sugar meter is your best guide. If your glucose shoots up, then you know what not to eat
Me too! Oats send my sugar soaring. The ADA recommends oatmeal as a good breakfast food. Maybe for some, their guidelines are out dated, they need to get up to speed, especially since more and more people are being diagnosed.
So I am new to being a T2D. Really new and I don't when the right time to check my sugar level. My doc so far has only told me to drop my carb level to less than 50 grams per day and 1200 calories. I needed to lose some weight too. I have dropped 60 pounds and I move more now than I did. I am walking almost 3 miles every day and increasing that as well. Can you tell me when I should check my sugar levels and what is good and what is bad.
