same. it only happens when I am super tired. vitamin c helps out a lot by taking my stress away. i just had a ransomware attack and it stressed me out a lot. 4 days of little to no sleep. now I am seeing double on my left eye only.
I woke up yesterday with a REALLY horrible double vision in my left eye. I have astigmatism and severe dry eyes and the dryness caused because of an acne medicine I used to take (of course by a dermatologist and with a monthly check up) things were fine till third month, I tried million eye drops most of them preservative-free and sometimes I use them 7-8 times a day. I tried the warm compresses, drink 3 liters of water, everything just to get rid of the dryness. but yesterday I felt really down when I went to the ophthalmologist and seems like I still have severs dry eyes and because of it I see things blurry. it feels like burning now and I'm hella tired. at least my retina is still fine!
it turns out I have recurring corneal ulcers that is caused mainly by dryness @@mukulkumar8611 the problem still didn't solve completely but with using eyedrops each hour or two I'm doing much better. thanks for asking btw💕

Please doctor, my eyes had inflammation and a black dot in one eye, but after that the doctor gave me medicine that made both eyes have a double vision.
Thank you for this educational video! I have bilateral monocular diplopia, and it started after I had a headache in the back left side for a few weeks that got worse when lying down along with frequent tinnitus. I don’t know if it started this way but I notice I have a ghost image higher and lower than the object, so I see 3 things 24/7 even when my head doesn’t hurt. Any experience seeing patients with a similar issue? Getting referred to a neuro ophthalmologist so hopefully they can find an answer but I am nervous that I will leave the appointment with more questions than answers. :)

Hello doctor. I have bilateral monocular double vision. When I cover my left eye, I have double vision, and when I cover my right eye, I have double vision. Ophthalmologists told me that the eye is structurally fine, and neurologists did not find anything suspicious. This disease bothers me a lot. I want to explain to you more fully. Please leave me an email. Thank you
I unfortunately got this after cataract surgery. Kept telling the eye doctor even after a year and they keep trying to just fix it with glasses. I never had this issue before surgery but now it is even impossible to read without getting a headache. Needless to say, the surgery is what made my vision way worse.
I get this double vision when im to long on my phone, after hours it gets back normal. Is it pure eye strain that has gone to far? Eyes always feel tired
I have dry eyes for one and half years and i started to see double 3 months ago I went to doctor and she said if we fix your dry eyes your double vision will go. But yesterday I went doctor again and she said your double vision will not go because of your astigmatizm I really want to cry I hate glasses and I cant wear contact lenses because of dry eyes. But I still have a little hope and try to fix my dry eyes:(((
My secondary image is above the original blurry one and surprisingly it has almost perfect resolution. But it weaker than the originl one. I also see some images sometimes below the original as well so not sure if I have astigmatism or keratoconus. Thanks for the informative video
You exactly described my situation! My double vision developed in mid 2020 and I went to so many specialists but no one was able to figure out what’s causing it… So I assume it’ll stay like that forever ;(
Throughout my life, I've had astigmatism and never experienced bilateral monocular diplopia until recently, despite wearing glasses. I've been experiencing nerve issues, including hand tremors and pins and needles, which my neurologist attributes to herniated discs in my neck compressing a nerve. As a result, my vision has started to flicker and become increasingly noisy. This recent development of monocular diplopia has me worried and I am uncertain if it is related to my nerve issues. The experience is unsettling, as I am now seeing shadows around letters even while using my phone.
@@Kalam_Explores I’ve seen an ophthalmologist and a retina specialist this week and the good news is that there’s nothing structurally wrong with my eyes. I was referred to a neuro-ophthalmologist to see if the issue can be identified. It’s hard for me to understand how herniated discs in my neck can cause all these vision problems. Part of me has suspected I might have MS but I pray to God that I’m wrong.
@@DynamicUnreal Wow I am having all these issues & was also leaning towards MS. Particularly for me when I look straight down, my entire right side of my body tingles a bit but mainly in my hands & near my right hip.
Apparently l see 6 of everything. I had no idea untill an eye specialist put diodes into my eyes and all over my head for a computer screen test. The visuals in this clip are pretty good. It turns out that contact lenses make better corrections for my eyes than spectacles. No wonder my eyes and brain get so tired tring to make sense of all that conflicting information.
The weird thing about my monocular diplopia is that: 1) it appeared suddenly, 2) it affect both eyes the same way 3) it's vertical only. 4) I have actually two second images, one up and one down, but the one down is more intense. The image offset is proportional to the viewing distance. If I'm very close to something, the second Image is merged with the first image, so i don't notice. When I look to the moon in the sky, the offset is quite big, the second image is detached from the moon itself. (not overlapping that is) Last detail: the second image that is above is kinda floating, it may go higher if I focus on it. It appeared during a period where: 1) I took supplementary vitamins 2) Accidentally drank a CBD-based soda 3) Ate a lot of fast-food All doctors said my eye was perfect (a very very tiny bit of astigmatism), but glasses aimed to correct astigmatism actually made the second image more clear and visible, so it's worse. The astigamatism correction had absolute no effect on the offset, as proven when I looked at the moon with and without glasses. So all-in-all, I still don't what WHY and WHAT is going on. Who knows?
i have same symptoms but in my case when i open stretch my eyes wide it the second image gets detached far and when i squint it merges with the first image. Doctor said there was nothing he could do as could not find a thing.
I have the same thing, if I squint they merge, if I open wide or go farther, it's more detached.@@milkbeer Doctors don't care or are too busy with regular patients. so for now I kinda gave up
@@antoineweb1 Mine is very similar to yours. Mine is vertical and only appears on top. Opening my eyes wide makes it appear but if I focus on the second image then it goes away. Its been like this for as long as I can remember and I'm 25 now.
I love your vidéo, Doctor. Can you please address the matter of prisms eye glasses to correct double vision. I’m in the process of making a decision. Thank you so much!
@@rosariocob3157I went to the doctor and he said I do have astigmatism and my prescription changed a little bit, I have glasses for astigmatism but when I use them the double vision gets even worse for close distances like using cellphone, but when it comes to long distances it gets better. My new prescription is : -0,50 for astigmatism both eyes and 135 axis for right eye and 30 axis for left eye, plus 0,25 for hipermetropia for left eye. Now my old one (the one I'm using right now) is -0,50 for astigmatism both eyes and 125 axis for right eye and 70 axis for left eye... What makes me worry is the reason my double vision gets worse when I use them...
@@DrEyeGuy I have another question doc, so I went to my doc to checkup my eye bcos I saw shadow in every letter I see (in gadgets) (and in far- sighted) he corrected my lens (since I am wearing glasses for 5yrs) but still there is a shadow on letters (I have new lens) is it mean that he give the wrong lens for me? Tnx doc
I had double vision surgery for a squint in my teens and thirties, it never entirely went away - I just got used to it. Depends how tired I am. But I’ve also thought I’d had in one eye too. I always assumed it was my brain overcompensating for the squint.
I have monocular double vision in both eyes giving me triple or quadruple vision....been to optometrist and opthalmology with no diagnosis...I gave up years ago.
I had to search about it in English cuz I found no videos talking about all of these reasons of double vision in Portuguese, now I'm kinda calm, but I'm still afraid of being something on the retina
Is it astigmatism or what? Because I have had it for 2 years and haven't gotten a doctor your comment kinda gives me hope could you please make sure that you had astigmatism or what?
in 2 years, my right eye got so bad. I can't even read a license plate from 2 meter distance.. I see things in 6 fold with my right eye.. there's a halo around lights
my sister had double vision and went for an eye exam. AN MRI was ordered and turns out that she had a tumor on her pituitary and pressed on her optic nerve.
I get monocular vertical diplopia in both eyes. Reading my phone makes it worsen and tends to last for hours. Object close are overlapping and objects far away are aligned perfectly over each other. Had my eyes checked by an eye surgeon no issues found, tried eye drops no difference. Eye live with it as it fades away over time, but not completely. Sometimes it is hard to read with overlapping letters of the same line of text. I don't wear glasses as I can see an eye chart ok, just the E, F and T are hard to define when they vertically overlap. Funny that it happens in both eyes and when I close either one.
Dear Doc, I have a very special problem. I watched a 3d sbs video on my xreal air glasses with prescription lenses. After that I wanted to watch a normal video, but couldn't because of double picture. I thought okay this is because of watching before 3d sbs. But after sleeping I realized that I still had double vision in normal life. With two eyes but also with one eye. My eye doctor checked it and couldn't find any problem besides dry eyes. I use eye drops for a few days, but this doesn't help. Is it possible that I damaged something with the 3d sbs video? Or maybe the prescription lenses which I use there?
Thanks for the video. I have monocular diplopia in both eyes that I started noticing in 2019. At first I was super worried it was KC but had pentacams and other exams that ruled out KC. Tried RGP contacts but they didn’t resolve the diplopia, so my best guess is some sort of uncorrectable lenticular astigmatism. Multiple corneal specialists said nothing is wrong with my corneas. It’s taken me years to adjust to seeing this way, and it’s still distracting at times, but at least there’s nothing to really worry about.
@@DrEyeGuyThanks for the vid.I have slight vertical diplopia, it worries me cuz I have it when I look with both eyes and when I close either eye, so the diplopia is there no matter what I do, it doesn't go away even when i cover one of my eyes, can it be neurological problem?
If I had a problem in one eye, is that monocular? It was NOT in the left when I covered the right. But it was in the right when I covered the left. I think laying / pressing on the right eye caused it a few different times.
Can you have both monocular and binocular? Also when I get tired my eye turns in. My ophthalmologist usually focuses on my papilledema (I have IIH) but it’s the double vision stuff that annoys me 😩
Can you cover more about binocular diplopia? I've been suffering from that for a long while now and I'm afraid I'll need surgery to get it corrected which I want to avoid if possible.
I started having binocular diplopia when I was 9 or 10. Well, maybe I had it longer, but I didn't have a "lazy eye" until I was about that age. I had surgery on both my eyes when I was 13. The binocular diplopia never went away, but it became a lot better, and my eyes were more aligned. For the past year and a half, I've had double vision in each of my eyes. I keep putting off an eye exam because I don't have insurance yet. Hopefully, it's just dry eyes! What would make an older child develop binocular diplopia since most of the time it's in newborns? @@DrEyeGuy
I've been experiencing ghosting vision for at least 4 months now but only when the objects are far away, my vision is normal when I'm looking at my phone but I see the ghosting/stretched vision when I'm watching TV, reading a sign or just plain looking at the distance. I also see light flares it goes in every direction but if I look at lights that extra far aways there's only 1 diagonal line. I am 28 years old now and I never had a problem with my eyes before, so I'm not sure if this is just due to getting older or if there's other reason. I can't go for an eye check up because to be honest I don't have money for it. Free health care is limited in my country.
I have this now on both eyes. What I mean is, when I cover the left eye, I have double vision on my right. And when I cover the right eye I have double vision on the left eye as well. I also have blurred vision and is a bit light sensitive. This goes away if I squint my eyes though. It's especially seen as a ghosted image vertically and especially on in a bright room or something that has a light pointed at it. Lite vertical lines on the wall or subtitles on the TV gets doubled. Any idea what might be causing this? Could it be to dry eyes? Poor quality tear film?
Same problem here, I’ve had it for 2 years now, I went and got everything checked but they found nothing, which is annoying because there’s obviously something wrong.
Thank you for the video. I was hoping to find an answer here. I had a high prescription prior to Lasik but perfect vision with glasses. I have had this messy fluctuating double vision shadow in my left eye since laser (Lasik) nearly a year ago. There is a messy shadow /double /stretched image to the bottom right of every object I see. I feel like I've been maimed. It's devastating, I can't escape it. It cannot be corrected by glasses or contact lenses. 4 surgeons have seen me (1 independant) and none are able to give me a straight answer as to what the problem is. I had micro striae after surgery as well which they recommended a flap lift for but that surgery made it a tiny bit bifferent but did not correct the issue and now they all swear it's not the wrinkles causing the problem (this includes 1 independent assessment), they think it's the left over astigmatism but the problem with that theory, and they admit to this, is that the mess in my vision cannot be corrected at all with glasses or contact lenses so it does not add up that it's the astigmatism. It's devastating. Dry eyes make it worse but that's not the root cause of the issue which I can tell from what I see. I was due to have an enhancement procedure which they said should fix it but then was denied that because of a risk of my cornea jutting out and I still don't have a solid answer or hope of a way to fix it. Has anyone got any thoughts?
Wow, first off, thank you for sharing your experience. So are your doctors saying the cause of your symptoms are from the astigmatism? Did Lasik cause any irregular astigmatism or corneal shape abnormalities? Did they possibly do a topography of your eye?
@@DrEyeGuy Thanks for reading and replying! They don't confirm the answer, they just say what they see if I press for an answer. The optician and the first surgeon 'think' it's the astigmatism left over from the Lasik but it should be correctable with contact lenses so they aren't sure. The senior surgeon just mentioned the shape of the eye and the eye surface is not smooth. They just used those words. At one point they adamantly said it was dryness and the surgeon explained how dry spots cause the issue. 3 opticians and a surgeon who had just seen me told me there were no dry spots. Then they went back to the astigmatism answer when steroid drops didn't help. They've never used the terms irregular astigmatism or corneal shape abnormalities. I've had lots of scans but not sure about topography since the Lasik, thanks, I'll ask them. I wonder if it's Kerataconus as you mention in your video but I would have thought, even if the surgeons who did the surgery don't want to admit this because they caused it (could they have?), the independant surgeon would have picked this up as he'd done a full assessment/scans (I think they mapped the topography there) and he never mentioned that. He also said he can't confirm the cause of the symptoms but all he could see was left over astigmatism, he was sure it wasn't the wrinkle and it doesn't make sense.
@@Erashaful Dr. Smith from Stone Canyon Eye Show has a good idea. Scleral lenses are great for improving vision for people with astigmatism or irregular astigmatism as well as dry eye. Might be worth trying one eye to test the vision out.

I also faced eye strain when I look up close in my laptop like my eyes crossed ( in real they don't but the feeling) and you can't focus on things though you see them. It slightly uneasy. Text on the TV is blur for some hours. Everything around looks uneasy to focus. Not blur but like may be misaligned eyes? But in real your eyes look straight 3. I lost long distance vision. Slight clarity missing. 4. I had few seconds of orangs light which was griwing in concentric circles , when I closed ny eyes. Happened twice. Let me know if you came out of any of these. I must say I was crying a lot one day. The next week this happened while I was watching Tv sleeping lying to my left side on the sofa.
Usually (in most cases) Monocular Diplopia happens due to Cataracts (cortical cataracts) and/or Dry Eye Syndrome, rarely optic nerve issue (Relative Afferent Pupillary Defect (RAPD)) could cause that
Is it easy for people to tell what causes it? Been having eye issues and tired of spending money on glasses that never fix the blurry double image. I don't understand why they never get a prescription that works for me. I'm not sure if it's because there's a bigger issue or what..
@@DefinitelyNotRin If you see double vision and your eyes blur even if one eye is open, it's most likely Optic nerve issue (due to Auto immune disease or The multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS) or Drusen). usually glasses don't fix the issue if the problem is coming from the optic nerve. in most cases optic nerve appears normal under fundoscopy or OCT but the retinal nerves underneath got affected.

Have monocular diplopia in right eye from ptosis induced astigmatism (in my opinion) and cataracts (to be removed shortly). Will the preliminary exam for the new implanted lenses be able to get the Rx correctly going thru the ptosis induced 'wrinkle' of the astigmatism? Keratoconus surgeries usually involve cornea transplants - that usually end up in needing correction afterwards with contacts or glasses. There is also corneal cross-linking that help slow down the progression of keratoconus... unfortunately not the goal to correct vision out of contacts. You should definitely seek medical attention. But... these can be symptoms of something serious but these can be symptoms of dry eyes. I would suggest starting with an ophthalmologist. Chances are they won't care or treat you differently because of your life choices. And if they do you wouldn't want them to care for you anyway. Don't be scared.
My astigmatism started after the pandemic as I started watching too much content on my phone with eyes almost always facing downwards causing keratoconus development slowly overtime. By now it has gone worst in one eye with myopia that i had since I was 12 where now keeping the phone very close at a double the pam length helps see clear. It's the downwards up close looking habits that causes this keratoconus in our eyes.
