Thank you so much for this. I was just practicing and feeling sad that I feel so much more balanced when looking down rather than backwards, but now I know that’s not a bad thing.

I have watched many youtubers teaching handstands and different ways to learn it, but I think u are the best at teaching it everyone Ive watched have always explained the ”perfect” handstand and stuff wich is a forever journey. Only u are the one saying that it is better to learn to balance first and then progress further. So keep up the good work bro!

I'm 6 month in my calisthenics journey and sadly the handstand is where i'm struggling the most, thank you for sharing this! It's kind of frustating watching video where the handstand is always considered a basic skill, maybe as "easy" as a L-SIT on parallettes.

I started calisthenics Jan. 2021 and started handstands last July, and I just got my first 20 second hold. Handstand is challenging, for sure. You'll get it! Probably faster than I did, lol. I'm practicing for consistency and to kick up without touching the wall.

Whats the difference on handstanding facing the wall and not facing the wall?
@dokuaccount3172
@dokuaccount3172 2 года назад
Do you have a tip on how to be always ready to do a handstand? So I can hold a handstand when I'm warmed up. Also my consistency increased a lot I would say I catch it in most cases and than can stand for like maybe 1 Minute max. But If I want to do it on a party or something like this, I first have to stretch my shoulders and wrist. Or need a couple of trys before being warmed up. I want to be able to do it out of nowhere on the spot

@rafaelmgonzalez 2 года назад
Hello there! So, i have been doing handstands for 2 years and i can tell you that it takes a little while to do it every where or whenever you want, but there there are some "warm ups" That help get you that kinda "skill", like start walking during+- 10 min and every 8/12 seconds do a handstand during the 10 min you Will get way more Control of your alingment and strenght That a handstand requires, and trust me it Will be easy to do it every where! But yea mostly it takes a lot of practice, try to get your 1 min hold very solid for more seconds and Im sure youll be able to improve:) and dont forget to enjoy the Journey;)))

I think it's tricky marketing for the claims of "30 days to handstand" and other type programs that say you can learn in x time cause what are they defining as a handstand e.g. hold for how long? Cause yes you can learn to handstand in a few mins if you define a handstand as being able to kick up into one but not any criteria for holding it.

Can you handstand walk? How far? Can you do a RU-vid short showing how far you can handstand walk? I am trying to learn that a little bit now, it didn't take me long to take a few steps, now I can walk a few metres, hopefully eventually i can go pretty far 😊

It’s funny, that’s what people always ask me if I can walk in a handstand when I’ve spent all of my trying to learn how NOT to walk 😂

Is it true what I learned as a small boy that it's bad for you to get all the blood rushing to your head like you do in a handstand? Whenever I practice the handstands I seem to get a bit of a headache
@StephanNinu

I've done handstands for a year now and had the same problem at the beginning but with time it gets better and your body gets used to be in an upside down position. How long have you been training for?

I want to add to the third point is that for me getting a stronger core got me more awareness. So it can actually help
@Sondre_Berg
@Sondre_Berg 2 года назад
And I wouldn’t doubt that at all😊 I am not at all saying that getting a strong core is wasted, I am just saying that it actually doesn’t matter too much for handstands. And particularly, I wanted to address the fault of the “squeeze everything” form cue I hear all around the place 😜

I was starting from scratch and I hit 7-8 seconds on most of my tries after 3 weeks (counted with metronome, sometimes its as little as 5s and sometimes I have holds up to 12 or 13 seconds). And I had to take in sum more than 1 week of those 3 off because of a bruised toe and wrist pain. I think the consistent 10s in 4 weeks is totally possible if you dont injure yourself and practice 3-5 times a day several handstand with some days off to recover. But then again it depends what you count as "learning a handstand". Consistent 30s will surely not be feasible.
@elia6160

Idk why but i learned it whit a bad but not the worse form in less than 3 training session (less than 1 week)

Good tips but Myth 4 is not true for everyone. I learned the handstand without a wall. I always kicked up until I found the balance more and more. The wall can also be a safety that is hard to get rid off when you've learned to controle your handstand because you cant find the balance when kicking up or beeing afraid of falling.
@nikorazietti9501
@nikorazietti9501 2 года назад
from my experience I can tell you that this was not the case. By practicing belly to wall you learn to go out from the side and then applying it free was automatic. But if I had to learn balance hoping for the luck of a lucky kick up, it would have taken me a lifetime.
@Sondre_Berg
@Sondre_Berg 2 года назад
We are all different in how we learn and what we find motivating 😊 I am well aware that many people do learn the handstand like this. From my experience coaching handstands (which is what I base my teaching off), I have seen that those who learn to use the wall as a tool progress much faster. I would even go out on a limb here and claim that had you used the wall in addition, you may have learned it even faster 😊 That being said, I definitely also recommend training without the wall, and drills free of the wall as well as falling drills are present in all of my handstand programs. I thing (as with many things) the key is to use the best of both worlds 👍

Is it possible to learn a handstand through sheer strength?
@zenlifestyleandmannersshow6892
@zenlifestyleandmannersshow6892 2 года назад
No
@Sondre_Berg
@Sondre_Berg 2 года назад
Not shear strength, but those with very much shoulder strength can learn a handstand easier by relying more on strength. In this case the handstand would usually look very crooked and with bent elbows etc, but it can be a great approach too, for those that possess such a feat 😊
