One little trick I use to avoid damage to the door handle when opening. Instead of just grabbing the handle and pulling to open the door, I place my fingers on the inside of the handle and my thumb over the door lock and just use the leverage of my thumb to pull out the handle until the door releases. That’s the best I can explain it but it’s a much more gentle process as it just “pops” the latch open before you swing the door open.
Always love your videos. I have a 2008 GT 1.9JTDM. I've replaced the suspension and the sills and it's now got no faults. The sills looked visually OK but there was a lot of rust coming from the inside - so they were all cut our and replaced. Love the car.
I recognize all the problems as an owner myself! I still absolutely love the car. I've had a lot of dings removed by a restyle guy and luckily haven't gotten any more. Probably because I always park far away. I also had to replace both the window modules because the auto drop stopped. When the auto drop stops it tends to press in the window rubber so you get a lot more wind noise. I notice the window rubber you showed is a bit recessed. Do you get a lot of wind noise? You can easily pull out the rubber if you start at the vertical part to the back. Then simply refit it so it sits in the linner right. Helped me a lot with wind noise and water leakage! Just fyi 🍀 enjoy the gt
I agree, GT is definitely one of my favorite cars, too bad I am not able to get my hands on the one with Busso engine. I don't have any issues with the wind noise yet...
@@arcgarage I would love a busso but they are getting very expensive... Even the ones that were actually used with high KM But our twin sparks are very light tho! Also a easy engine to work on i think
I have mine for 5 years - best daily car ever + it's awesome on long journeys. I do 1000KMs in a day from time to tome, absolutely enjoy every moment of it :) JTD of course :D
I have to agree as well. Also tend to recommend to potential buyers avoiding buying a GT cheap and in bad shape. I bought one from Italy absolutely corrosion free with low mileage even when the body was far from perfect and engine power was disappointing (JTS). Been having it for 3 years as weekend drive and made a lot repairs but as was already said, this car is lovely to drive, comfy (on good roads) and looks great. Appreciate the view of jacking spots, 2B honest I crooked my doorstep despite I'm ex mechanic. Keep it up! Cheers
I agree, the one i bad shape can cost loads of money. I actually did a video on the GT jacking points, here is the link, hope it comes in handy ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w5A06s4t-7A.html
Hi, thanks for hearing. I have same looking car 2007 GT for a few months and getting used to it. It was so weird driving Celespeed at the start but slowly i am getting better.
Not much love for the Busso 3.2 GT here! So much torque, very quick and drives like it's on rails, much like the 164 Busso. Can also be economical when driven carefully.
As an owner, i totally agree! I skipped the rust issue on mine, the sills are clean and rust free, but i just ordered a hinge for the door handle, even if i applied your advice months ago and i sprayed them with WD40...
As an owner of a 2007 147 1.9 JTDM I have almost the same issues. Yet still I love the car. I don't know why, but as bad as Alfa quality is, those cars are totally worth the effort.
@@arcgarage This might be true. Though the most reliable cars I've had were Dacia and Peugeot. Even German cars are actually pretty bad considering their good reputation.
Thin sheet metal makes the Alfas really light and faster than comparing cars. Win some, loose some. Positive thing is that the parts are cheap and quite easy to replace.
I’ve just bought a 2006 1.9 JTD with 126k . It has a few faults .. one being the thermostat is stuck open , the second is the gear selector top hat bushes , I plan to do both of these at the same time as located under the battery . The other two issues it has are the drivers seat does not fold forward due to a broken cable and the seat bolster was torn. I’m pretty good with a sewing needle though so I have repaired that . All round though the car is in excellent condition. Bose , parking sensors and red Momo leather are some of the options on it
@@arcgarage thanks ! I guessed that while they are so cheap , now is a good time to get one because I’m convinced they will become very collectible one day considering it’s the last car designed by Bertone . The issues are small and easily resolved too
The rear shocks problem is what killed my GT - rear left shocks broke while I took a speed bump, sent the car into a slide, straight into a barrier on the sidewalk. Tore the side and rear panels apart and it ended up being a total loss. If you're buying a GT, get these checked out as soon as possible.
@@arcgarage if it had happened five minutes later, I would've been driving full speed on a dark, wet road, and I might not have been here to tell the tale. Very grateful that it happened while I wasn't going any faster than 5kmh
I have one right now the windows in doors was a issue for me to but for me i needed to replace battery and reprogram them and for now i have no problems in using this car
Yep. My door handle popped off & its a pain to find a cheap one online as most have been discontinued.. only seeing a few online for £70-£100! Had to order a 147 door handle and hope a mechanic can fit that on to my GT . Love the car tho!
Hi, I want to buy this as a second car :). Do you suggest the 1.8 TS or the 2.0 Jts? And can I know the main things to check before buying that car? Thanks
can you also do a video like this but then on the engine? For example rank the engines for reliability (the TS and JTS) and then argue what are the weaknesses of each engine. Obviously the TS also counts for the 147 and 156
@@arcgarage nice! An Alfa GT is my affordable dream car and ofc Alfa isn't known for being that reliable but specific reliability issues and how it compares to other brands isn't well documented. I cant rlly find these inquiries if I search them online
@@gaatjeniksaan336 As someone who works on cars I can tell you that it is fairly reliable for the car of its age, much more so than some of the more German brand models...
@@arcgarage Good to hear they are better than its german competitors. What's also an advantage of Alfa is that the owners genuinly take care of their car really well, unlike for example people who own older BMW's.
@@arcgarage No problem. Well, I have one more question. You put springs on the trunk lid of 147. What exactly should their inside diameter and length be?
@@arcgarage because i was driving while it happend the broken part of the spring scraped the inside of the tyre but not to the point that the tyre had to be replaced for safety
