Welcome Imperial citizens to a new video series where I test my hand at painting a massive Chonkie Marine (printed on my Elegoo Mars 3 printer) in the colors of the various Legions from the Horus Heresy, all while discussing a couple important aspects of the paint scheme I discovered during the process. I also discuss some interesting lore that influenced the overall look of the model.
If you want a long form video tutorial on how I paint a Sons of Horus marine from start to finish let me know in the comments below and we’ll get a whole squad of these beefy lads painted up to a proper GrimDark standard. Thank you so much! I'll definitely have to get a full-length tutorial together on how I paint Sons of Horus marines. This color scheme was really fun and really got me into what I feel is an often overlooked legion. I'm thinking it is the perfect excuse to do a whole Kill Team of these guys 😉. First things first, I have 3 other legions on deck at the moment. Aiming to have another video up soon!

Mate, you have far too few subscribers for the quality of this video haha Seriously, great stuff. Just the right amount of information delivered at a balanced pace (you're a good narrator, BTW), well mixed background music that fits the tone (I like the tune at the showcase too) and a great paintjob. Probably helps that the mini is so awesome haha, that type of true-scale aesthetic is exactly my kinda shit. I really need to get around to purchasing a 3D printer. Out of curiosity, what size did you print him at (i.e. height)? Keep it up, I know I'll watch all 18, they're only 5 minutes after all haha

Thank you so much for the kinds words! It makes all the hard work worth it, please share this video with your friends to help grow the channel -- every little bit counts. I'm glad you liked the final result (ya Anton did a killer job with the ending showcase music). Don't worry, there is more legions on the way! And once all 18 are done there is always the chapters of the Badab War 😉. Once you dip your feet into the true-scale area there is no going back. It's super addicting. The model was made with the larger scale in mind so there is no need to adjust the height, plus it is compatible with existing heads, weapons, etc. I might do a quick video on scale comparison once I have some more of these beefy dudes finished. Honestly getting a 3d printer is one of the best hobby purchases you can do and highly recommend the Mars 3 by Elegoo. There is a bit of a learning curve but once you get it down, it's pretty straight forward.

I might do a big squad of these guys down the line where I would go over the paint scheme in greater detail, rather than just highlighting the sea-green armor like I did here. But I have some stuff in the queue ahead of that. The suggestion is noted ;)

I've been eyeing the Tortuga True Scale bodies for a while now, and think I'll take the plunge. Killteam of 10 SOH Reavers turned Blackshield that were displaced in time due to a warp anomaly, and as such, missed the tipping of the Legion into rebellion. The Eye of Horus will be scratched out, and a crude Aquila painted over their chests. Still Cthonian savages, but seeking to punish their Turncoat brothers, no matter what must be done.

Do it! I fully support this idea. And I can personally vouch for the quality of Tortuga's sculpts. However you should also check out the community mod for Kill Team that is set in the Horus Heresy Era. Incase you want something a little more traditional 😉. Here's the link! @@inquisitornero I've actually heard about them! I haven't checked out the latest edition of killteam, and thus have no familiarity with it's rules. But I will do that, and maybe even post my progress.

Thank you! Ya been a little slow here due to some other commitments I had to handle unfortunately. I also upgraded up my 3d printing rig which took some time to sort out. The good news is I'm finished with my latest project and am editing it as we speak. So you should have a few videos coming your way!

A full kill team of these guys sounds awesome! Maybe that video can have a more in-depth look into the painting process and can include a bit of your own lore on each of the minis. Anyway, liked this video and am looking forward to the rest of the series!

Much appreciated, and I'm glad you are enjoying the "5 Minutes" series! There are certainly more beefy marines on the way. I really like the idea of both doing an in-depth painting tutorial on a SoH Kill Team combined with talking about the lore surrounding each member of the warband. That is definitely something I will pursue in the future. I have a rough idea of how to go about it -- just got to work out the finer details. I am glad that there is interest in that project. Thanks for the awesome suggestion!

That jab at the Space Wolves was funny! And I say that as someone who owns like 5.000 pts. of them in 40k. They used to be cool, but GW has ruined them with their Wolf-Wolf bullshit.

Haha I couldn’t help myself, glad you can appreciate the humor. Ya I completely agree, as a faction they could be so much more if GW would lean harder into the whole Norse aesthetic (or even introduce some Eastern European mythological elements into the mix as well)…but noooooo, they cater to the absolute lowest common denominator. Case and point, the Horus Heresy 2.0 “upgrade” heads debacle 😂.

And the worst part about it is that I own some of the old white metal Mk VI models from 2nd edition. Did GW use them as inspiration, and show some love to the old stuff that made Warhammer as popular as it is (or at least was). No! It is more wolf-wolf bullshit!

@@Grubnar I've heard from a few others that due to the Wolf helm backlash, the Night Lords heads were completely redesigned from what GW was originally going to go with...so it would seem the boys of the 8th owe you guys a debt of gratitude for taking the bullet on that release.
