I knew Ty and several people who died at the station that night. Ty had made it out, then went back in realizing his Girlfriend was still in the venue. He went in to save her. A friend and off and on Roadie/guitar tech Jeff Rader had also made it out, then went back inside to save to Ty, Ty's girlfriend and a couple other people. Sadly all three were trapped and died in the fire. It proved to me what a good guy Jeff was and what a good guy Ty was. It was a fucked up thing that should have never happened, and I lost several friends forever. R.I.P and much Love and respect to Ty, Jeff and everyone lost that night. There is comfort in knowing that both Jeff and Ty were awarded in the next world surely for their heroic actions. just so, so Sad.

One that might not be well known to you - Les Harvey. Les was the younger brother of Alex Harvey, and a fine guitarist in his own right. He was electrocuted on stage with the band Stone The Crows on the 3rd of May 1972.

I of course knew about Dimebag Darrell and Ty Longley - who didn't?? - and I knew that Nick Menza died, but I did not know that it was on stage. Damn. R.I.P. to all of these men.
@ERASEREPLACEPLACE
@ERASEREPLACEPLACE 3 года назад
I remember Ty Longley's death so well because, some time earlier, an episode of the cartoon "Static Shock" aired that mirrored the tragedy. The episode featured a band performing on stage when the pyrotechnics caused the ceiling to catch fire and burn down the club with everyone trapped inside. I thought the episode was eerie in itself... but when that event ACTUALLY happened later, I was really freaked out. In the cartoon, superheroes saved all the club patrons. In the real life incident...

Gary Thain of Uriah Heep didn't die onstage, but was electrocuted during a show and seriously injured. His resultant incapacitation, plus his drug habit, led to his firing from the band. He died of a heroin overdose shortly thereafter.

This haunts many of us living in the Northeast, especially Connecticut and Massachusetts residents who had traveled to Rhode Island for the show along with local Rhode Islanders. 🙏🙏 2003 18 years ago. It's hard to believe that much time as passed already. Fire codes were changed and upgraded after that incident. I found interviews and documentaries of that night on RU-vid. They pay respect to those that passed and interview the injured.

As someone whose main period of following rock/r&b music predates heavy metal, the one I always think of is Jackie Wilson. I know that one of the Yardbirds, Keith Relf, died from accidental electrocution. For years, I thought it was a household accident, but I later heard it happened onstage.

Les Harvey of Stone the Crows died onstage via accidental electrocution; though it was before performing so I don't know if that would count.
@seansweeney3532
@seansweeney3532 3 года назад
For years there was urban legend that had Relf dying in his bathtub while playing his electric guitar... But apparently there was a grounding issue in his home studio and he was at home recording what would have been and wound up being the... I believe Armageddon album.... It was some strange thing where he had a pair of headphones on and was playing his guitar and simply leaned against a metal support post...
