Have you been to the Yucatan Peninsula? Which were your favorite destinations there? Did you enjoy the cities, or prefer the natural surroundings as well? Share your experiences with us in the comments!
A nice video and list! Here are some other ideas outside of Quintana Roo. Go see Mérida the capital city of the Yucatán state. Mérida is the safest city in México, the safest city in Latin America, and the second safest city in the Americas behind Quebec City Canada; that means that Mérida is safer than EVERY US city. Amazing city; art, culture, music, food, history. Go see Izamal, a small city with 15,000 occupants in Yucatán, it is 45 miles east of Mérida. Climb the Kinich Kakmó and see the beautiful view of city and surrounding area from its peak. Tour the amazing Convento de San Antonio de Padua. Progreso is a nice beach with way less tourists than those in the Riviera Maya, while you are there see the El Corchito nature reserve and see the iguanas, boa constrictors, small crocs, and crowds of raccoons and a band of coatis. Go to Celestun to see the flamingos Travel to las Coloradas for the red Laguna Rosa or the salt production or the flamingos. Go see a Hacienda! Eat at Hacienda Xcanatun and ask for a tour. Visit Hacienda Sotuta de Peon (& cenote) for the day. Go to Campeche to see the famous walled pirate city.
I visited the Sian Kaan reserve with a friend about 20 years ago. An unforgettable memory! You forgot to mention going out to fish crayfish, and having their tails prepared just after fishing. Delicious!
The last time I visited Mexico was years ago, I had no choice but to stay at tourist trap areas. Hopefully next time I visit I could actually have an adventure. Thanks for sharing these adventure ideas. Now I have a good idea where to head too. Thanks guys.
It's also nice to just enjoy the beaches, but the backcountry of Yucatan offers beautiful alternatives with fewer people! Let us definitely know if you have any questions when going there! Cheers! Doris & Matthias
All the things you mentioned in the beginning of this video. We are ALL about that. The lagoon looks incredible. Bacalar is simply paradise. The cenotes are so magical. Great video and very informative. By the way could you watch our latest video as we'd love to hear your thoughts as well. Our Peru series has begun. YAY!
Awesome you guys share our style of travelling! Just watched your latest Peru video and you're such a sweet couple to listen to. Loving those salt terraces and glad Dave got better after this allergic reaction! I'm sure you guys would enjoy Yucatan's South as well. Hugs, Doris & Matthias 😊
big hello from NH,usa....very cool, very fun video...loved underwater shots...i have family in Brazil and have traveled there quite a bit...but will get to Mexico as soon as i can... best wishes!...-Scott,near Boston, usa
Hey Scott! Thanks for your message - that sounds awesome! We've also got family in Brazil, and would love to visit them once. There's also a beautiful place called Pantanal that is high on our list of places to see. Cheers from Austria, Doris & Matthias 👨🏻👩🏻🦰
This was great. We’re planning a trip right now and since we’re always in search of wildlife, this was perfect. (We also subscribed.) Question: Did you rent a car or rely on public transportation to go to all these remote sites?
You're right - expect to share the adventure with "a few others" 😅. But it's worth for the cenotes and jungle ruins alone and there are places less crowded the further South you go. Just drop us a. message, once you're actually going! Hugs!
Liebe Anna(s) 😊! Danke!
hi, im going to the yucatan next week. This video made me even more excited than i was! How can i find local guides like you did? how much does it cost?
Look for "non-touristic" spots and ask the community there directly - don't book activities through big hotel chains etc. Hope you had an awesome time in the Yucatan peninsula. It's an amazing place! Cheers from Austria, Doris & Matthias 👨🏻👩🏻🦰
You guys are such an inspiration, sorry for being MIA, trying to keep up with everything seems like neverending hahaha! Love the video and places you recommended :) We are thinking of Mexico or maybe Asia again next year, but more backpacking sort of style! Carl wants to scuba dive - Mexico does look like a place to go! I will show him the video tonight after he finishes work what he thinks of it :)
Hey Karina! We're totally with you on the "keeping up"-thing 😆 (answering comments after 1 month 🙈). Yes, for Yucatan we'd totally recommend backpacking style (not so easy with all the resorts etc. but possible to find some hidden gems). So awesome Carl is scuba diving in Nusa Lembongan! Just saw your stories, hope your cold is getting better quickly. Let us definitely know how you liked Bali's underwater world 💙! Wishing you some beautiful encounters (also while snorkelling 💦). Hugs, Doris &. Matthias
Awesome video! We went to Cancun for our honeymoon. We mostly stayed in Cancun, but we did go to Chichen Itza and one of the Cenotes. The Yucatán was such an exotic place to us!
@@bugsandbears Chichen Itza was a little crowded and touristy (which is why this video is so great), and it was a little nerve racking to drive once it got dark, but other than that it was a lot of fun.
Hello! We are actually flying into Cancun at the end of October, and are planning to go out and explore beyond the crowded resort areas. Which of these do you recommend the most for us to do? And is there anything you didn't get a chance to do that you really wished you had? Any help you can give us is appreciated! Excellent video yet again, you two... 😀
Awesome to hear, you'll have a great time there for sure! It depends what you're interested in, but visiting a couple of different cenotes for swimming and snorkeling is definitely a must in our opinion. If we had a little more time, we would have visited more cenotes, as they're so unique, only found there and the water is unbelievably clear. Calakmul was by far our favorite Mayan site, as it's so remote and nestled in a beautiful jungle. We found the most beautiful beaches a little South of Tulum and would definitely recommend to visit Bacalar's lagoon as well. Don't hesitate to drop us a line, if you have any further questions 😀!
Thanks so much! We already have a few centoes on our list...we will most likely PM you on FB... I have been to this area before many a time via cruises, but this is my first time flying in and my first since I started our travel vlog
Mexico protects 12% of its land, Mexico has de 10% of natural diverse in the World, 60% of the World Marine diverse and the 5th more diverse country in the World, only behind Brazil, Colombia, India and China also there are two beautiful colonials cities; Merida and Campeche, both of them are Heritage Site by the UNESCO, Yucatan Pennisula is good option ❤️❤️❤️
May I ask how you lined up your local Mayan guide? We'll be going to the Yucatan in March with our 6 year old twins and 1 year old. We would love to have a local guide for a day or afternoon.
