@@JenPhelpsbetter to review... influencers are just trying to sell. I have to say, sometimes you get palettes that aren't great on their own, but are good in conjunction with other palettes, or have that one colour that works with other palettes.... so on their own, not great, but still get used.

Agreed. $129 is a lot of money for 10 eye shadows. Also, I agree with Jen on wanting to be able to use one palette for a complete look. And I want to be able to use ALL of the colors in a palette. I made an exception once for a palette from a favorite brand that was marked way down. (I think it was on final clearance.) It has a dark pink sparkly color that I'll never use. The other colors are matte browns that I do use. It's small and good for travel. But other than that, I generally don't purchase palettes. The other 2 I own are a 5 shadow Mattes palette from L.A. Colors that I think cost $6. The formula is powdery, but it's not bad for the price. I also own the Smashbox Covershot Palette in Mattes. I like it because it has a mix of warm and cool colors, which is good for travel. And it has bigger pans of the base colors, which is unique.
@jenniferstepps
@jenniferstepps Год назад
So so agree. I have a few ( 2 big ones, a 6 pan, and a Christmas collection one …light pink cover). While my fav is the Christmas one, the others are just not extraordinary. Some of these indie brands have formulas that are on par with PMG. I reach for those a lot! Also, sponge tip applicators are sooooo useful with those special shades. One of my mothership has a few shades that are hard pan so that is definitely something I took notice of.

Absolutely! Tbh, it's a sign of progress that many palettes are now designed for darker skintones, and not just from BIPOC centered beauty companies. It's good to see a diversity of people loving and hating trendy palettes. I am shocked by how many light skinned white folks profess beliefs of inclusion but flood the reviews with complaints if every single palette isn't for us. I have found some great shades for lightening beautiful shimmers that are just too dark, and mehron or other mixing medium can do wonders to sheer out formulas or mix up custom shades

So many reviewers raved about Pat McGrath palettes and her formula, so I bought the Divine Rose and one other one when there was a 40% off sale. I wasn't impressed. The special shades were cool, but I struggled to make a complete look with one palette AND honestly thought many indie palettes had equal or better shimmers. I agree with your assessment completely. Totally agree! PMG just isn’t worth it to me. Everyone always says it’s worth it for the special shades but there’s only ever like 1 maybe 2 in a palette - out of 10 shades - that’s not enough to make it worth $129. Plus, compared to Indie quality - no way! I’d rather buy some Indie singles that are way better in shades I know I’ll use than spend PMG for 1 or 2 special ones and mediocre other shades. I LOVE Huda’s formula! The mattes are so easy to work with - pigmented but blend out so easy it takes me no time at all to do a look! The shimmers are always beautiful! I didn’t get Naughty Nudes because I’m not a red toned or warm toned shade person. But I had Retrograde and absolutely loved it and then I got Rose Quartz because I figured it would be a good companion Palette and absolutely love it. Though, I do think it is a companion palette to retrograde in a way, but it also has a lot of similar matte shades in it but not totally so I’m still very happy with it 😂 I do wish she’d come out with a full cool toned palette. I’d be all for that! Rose quartz definitely leaned more cool, which is why I was drawn to it, but still has some warmth to it. A cool toned with cool grays, black, blue, cool purples in her formula would be so nice!!!

Stone Cold Fox is in my top 5. It contains my all time favorite shadow - Magnetic Moon. You barely touch it and you can cover both eyes - so pigmented. I wasn't surprised to see the Profusion palettes. You introduced me to them and I'm glad you did. I have Huda Beauty Naughty Nudes but I prefer Mercury Retrograde and Rose Quartz. They aren't as deep. My #1 palette is Sydney Grace and Mel Thompson Tiny Marvels palette. It has one of my favorite kind of duochromes - the reddish green shade called Scarab. I notice that I am drawn to duochromes that look like that. I have to keep reminding myself that I already own it. Great video. I have to say, I'm surprised how many people will only use one palette for a look, but now explains why so many beauty influencers wear identical looking makeup. I'd much rather have the "inconvenience" of using 2+ palettes, which gives me much more control over the way my face looks and allows me expanded creativity, rather than just "obeying" the seller. I understand that some people find using 3+ palettes to be too much, but i really dont get the reason for sticking to one at a time 100%, which seems to be the worst way to get great value from one's makeup. What am i missing? I have one beautiful palette, iconic london desk to dance, that is absolutely useless on its own for me, with only 4 mattes, which include violet & red orange, but oh wow is it ever gorgeous with the help of another palette or eye crayon or two.

I gave my stone cold fox to my mom bc it was overwhelming and it doesn't fit in my everyday caboodle 😅 I prefer smaller pallets for convince and space. I felt like stone cold fox was too cool and I thought I prefered cool toned. So I think I actually prefer neutral. Think naked 1&2 palettes. Those were both my fav. I wish you'd do a video with alternatives to those old palettes. I have a dupe I use alot of those 2. My fav right now is midsummer alter ego dupe for abh nouveau. Every small colourpop I've tried the shimmers are just too chunky for me. I made a byop with them and I love their singles but even those regular shades need glitter glue to not have fall out everywhere. The #1 thing I look for is glittery mess in a palette. Bc I wanted the huda rose quartz palette so bad and now it's a $70 counter ornament my mom got me for Christmas 😂 😢 it's so beautiful but the shimmers are way too glittery for my liking. Which I did not think was possible. I never wear matte only. Gotta have my smooth shimmers. My fave look is a taupe bronze all over the lids with a warm brown in the crease for everyday with my green eyes. I've been leaning towards cream eyeshadow alot more lately Maybelline OG bad to the bronze and even their new one in rose gold(forgot actual name) and then the Mac paint pots omg chefs kiss 😘 again not the glitter finish. Only painterly, layin low, and groundwork. Vintage selection was again too glittery! I was hoping for Maybelline color tattoo finish but sadly its not as it swatches 😢 the mattes tho yes 😂

Maybe you could combine one of the deep/smokey palettes you don't use with the Pat McGrath Divine Rose so you could actually get your money's worth? I agree that pat macgrath is not worth the price, many brands especially indie make "special shades" that are beautiful for a lower price. However, I don't agree with just using one palette. If all brands put in all shades that worked for all ppl then all palettes would be huge and if they didn't then someone is always going to say the palette is lacking. But putting together a crurated color story that is interesting and ppl can add colors they feel are needed is what makes palettes interesting.

I also regret that man eater palette just because I don’t use either. But my biggest regret is Huda’s rose quartz palette. Just absolutely hate the formula. I will say that after those two I started to say okay, what will I use. I still probably buy too much 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ but it’s at least things I love and will use.

❤👍great idea for a video! I have some palettes like that- it’s useful to think through why so I don’t repurchase another similar product. The PMG stayed on my wish list long enough for me to realize that I wouldn’t get the use out of it to justify the cost. My regrets- Charlotte Tilbury big 12 pan Pillow Talk- too orange and red on me. A few more but that was the most expensive mistake. I love the PT quad- but it’s not as flat out orange.

I bought that CT palette too and to me, it was that all the shades were just too similar. No matter what shade you used, you would wound up with a similar, onedimensional, pinky look. I returned that one.

So, I agree with you on the palette by Mother Pat. Where I started to get lost- was the complaint about lack of lighter transition shades. Perhaps, this is the difference between a makeup reviewer and a professional makeup artist? All that you need to do to achieve a wide range of lighter shades is to mix a dark matte with a lighter shade. Also- if you use the correct eyeshadow brush? You can blend out any dark shade… practically to nothing. In specific- the Viseart palette- even the dark matte shades will blend out to be a wisp of the original shade. That’s why a lot of current palettes don’t have the need for a variety of light matte shades. 🤷‍♀️
@RoseOfMadina
@RoseOfMadina 11 месяцев назад
The thing about Pat mattes is as well that you can create different depths with the same eyeshadow. Dip once and you have a light wash of colour, dip twice, a stronger colour and then you can build it up to reflect the shade in the pan.

Viseart palettes are easy to remove the pans and rearrange them, so i think they're meant to be used to built a custom palette from dark edit, light edit etc

I thought this was a great video. I was probably most surprised by the Viseart palette but I can see why you don’t reach for it. Also, I understand the hesitation with the ABH Rose Metal palette. It is interesting to me that I got this and Nouveau at the same time and I have only reached for the Rose Metal palette maybe 1-2 times and it just isn’t as approachable for me. It makes me hesitate to buy the new ABH palette that just dropped bc it’s so dark looking. Also, I’m glad I didn’t buy the Tarte palette. I love the color story but this new formula was in the holiday palettes and I just don’t like it. I’m not surprised about the palettes you reach for regularly.

When the name of a palette has dark in it; too deep for me. There are so many good brands and releases that there is enough for everybody. I need to get rid of my Pokemon habbit to catch them all that is mixed with fomo. I skipped Yucca as it will be 15 shades of a bruise on me but the Nude palette Natasha Denona released is screaming my name. But I want to see it first in store. That's my new plan; see it, swatch it before get it. And as not all brands release in the Netherlands and I don't go weekly to the Sephora in Germany (one hour drive, it is not that bad) I need to be patient and then the urge and hype has run low because the next thing is having its moment. Hopefully that will help to be more thoughtfull in what I buy.

I respect your opinions and enjoyed your video! I would like to add some insight as a makeup artist, so just food for thought 🤍 You will elevate your skill and grow as a makeup user when you learn to utilize shimmer (or similar) shades to deepen or shape looks and learn how to use smokier shimmers that will work for your eyes and shape. I used to use and look at palettes the way that you do, but it is very limiting and will limit what palettes you use out of ease. I mean this is the most kindest way! It’s easier to get in a makeup rut doing makeup that way. Also your opinions on Pat McGrath is a very basic consumer opinion, which is GREAT for your line of work as a reviewer but in case you didn’t know her palettes weren’t made for consumers they were made for her students in the avant guard space, even though she is heading in the consumer direction. Either way, loved to hear your opinions on these palette 🙏🏽

I think it’s ultra important to know thyself when purchasing eyeshadow. When I first started with my makeup obsession, eyeshadow was a big thing for me. I went through a phase where I wanted every single pallet launch. 😢I recently cut my pallets down quite a bit because I’ve finally realized what I like to wear and not wear when it comes to eyeshadow. I want so badly to be the jewel tone fall girly but I’m not. I really just want a very nice olive green and a couple of nice rust shades. 😂 I’ve made a plan to No buy for eyeshadow pallets and I’ve really started to invest more in my complexion products and skincare instead.
