things you think you will do once you're an EMT 1) save lives things you actually get to do once you're an EMT 1) watch the paramedic save lives while you sit there and look pretty
@@JestersAverage2 Uh you do realize that not all companies have the same policies right? Some let basics so more than others. You do realize that medics do MOST of the life saving procedures right? All you get to do is push on chests, breathe in mouths and set up THEIR equipment. Keep telling yourself that you're doing more than that, bud. Let me see you do an iv, io, or decompress a chest. Oh man is that not in your scope of practice? Aw who'da thunk it? 😂 You can act holier-than-thou, but we all know better here.
@@God-bz1jr I don’t know. Never took NREMT emt. I did take paramedic and walked out thinking why was there a question asking what I would do if a porcupine and a cat were stuck together and eaten by a shark while the shark was getting hit by lightening while attacking you while you were performing a dopamine calculation
People joining the fire services in the US: "Oh boy, I sure can't wait to fight fires, I just need my EMT" "Well I better get some hands on medical experience, I'll ride the box for a bit." "Maybe I should go study to be a paramedic to broaden my career opportunities." "I'm stuck on the ambulance. I'm in purgatory, give me a merciful death please."
@@dillanfolkers669 It's not that they are more interesting, to each their own. Emergency medical calls are certainly interesting. It's that it's literally fire. How can you not want to go lights and sirens to a structure fire, pull lines, throw ladders, search inside, etc? I really like technical stuff too, rescues where a lot of planning is involved, HAZMAT is super interesting too.
@@dillanfolkers669 I work in psychiatry and I work two similar fields one is for the public but its still a closed care, the second you need to be sentenced to be in. I prefer the second any day of the week even if its with murderers, rapists, addicts etc cause thats intresting to me.
Did it 15 years ago...when I finally passed the state test I asked my (now wife) to marry me figuring that if she put up with that, she would put up with anything...and she has!!!
Just wait till the rocket scientist comes out and you almost blow up the garage as.. 1. New larger life insurance policy 2. She will pack up and move out
These videos always make me smile. Thank you to all the folks who do this! I'm not an EMT/first responder, and no part of what you do is easy. Mad respect to all of you.
But also have zero freedom to be a healthcare provider. You get to provide only the orders that are given by someone else. As a paramedic you can make decisions that a doctor trusts you to make on your own. As a nurse you will have to get an order from the doctor to get them a cup of water.
@@ccsniper go the Nurse Practitioner route. You can even open up your own clinic so there's literally no reason to stay a paramedic for all that "freedom" you get
What kind of planet are you living on? Less hours? Guess you expect to get off right on time after your 12 hour shift and for coworkers to never call in, plus all the on-call shifts. Think again. Not sure where you got the delusion that nursing is easier and better pay. It’s hell and you get zero freedom. And the best part is sometimes you don’t even have time to go to the bathroom in 12+ hours, much less eat lunch.
@@rosegroshek1218 In terms of emergency scenarios that paramedics have to deal with mentally, being a nurse is likely easier. I’m sure nurses have their own huge list of stressors though too.
Shit I didn't have time to cry it was over in 82 questions in Under an hour for my medic cognitive. I did go throw up in between it though (had to raise my hand to be excused), and while awaiting results, but felt like the shit when I realized I passed the next morning
@@dylanfitch2997 just took mine on monday. Felt like I failed miserably and hit refresh every 5min until it showed that i somehow passed. Still not sure how lol
I test for my paramedic national registry tomorrow. I was an EMT for 13 years, I have been an advanced for 4 years and hopefully tomorrow I can start as a Paramedic. I’m 38 years old now and started in my early 20s. I’m glad I’m doing it now and not then because I wasn’t mature or responsible enough to had been a medic back then Plus I’m married and have a kid so it worked itself out :)
I just took the NREMT EMT- B this past June! It’s a hard test, but not at the same time. Definitely try some practice tests beforehand and see what your weak areas are. I think the nerves are the worst part.
@@guardianuruguayoguardian1761 agreed. My paramedic instructor gave us some great advice - "it's never 'never', it's always 'always', and if you are not sure - come back to it". Passed the written with flying colors thanks to his advice. Took my time, skipped the questions that I was unsure about until I had tackled the others.
I loved every single day of training. I decided to become a paramedic at around six years old. My best memory was sitting in the EMT class, day one, and looking around - "I'm finally here". Passed Registry and one of the instructors literally shoved me into my career. Like, instead of a pat on the back, he pushed me so hard I almost fell 😂 Ten years in the field, thinking about returning at 38.
I had three jobs, twin 2 year old daughters and my wife was pregnant with our son the year I went to medic school. Got 4 hours of OB and the doctor signed off one of my deliveries when he was born!
Question- When your making a video does a call ever come in during when your making it, and if so does that happen often? Just a question from a curious person 🙂
My uncle was the fire chief of Blackwood fire department and his son also works there as well as my cousin on the other side being a paramedic and I show them these videos and they love them
Quintuplets? Quintessential? Quantity? Quizzical? Question? Quilt? Come on man, you know how many "q" words there are? (I know what he's talking about I'm just being a smart ass)
He perhaps may be one of the most talented people at faking his emotions acting "happy" or just overall very optimistic maybe he is acting or maybe he is filled with all of those optimistic emotions like joy and hope. I'm impressed if he is. He probably has seen people die in person and probably blames him self for stuff that has happened in the past. A strong person I guess or maybe a numb human with the capability of exhibiting those emotions without any real meaning in them. I wish him the best if he is a complex working machine with no emotions and if not then keep being such a foward striking human I still wish you the best.
🤣🤣🤣🤣I'm so stressed right now and he just nails it everytime. I need this stress relief. Just finished my Masters in Science Special Ed at 52yrs. and yep gained 40lbs thanks COVID & stress🤣
You should do one on the different people you run into at the grocery store. #1 would be the “What time is dinner at” guy for sure or maybe the “My _____ is a firefighter, do you know them” guy.
literally singing up for EMT classes for next semester hoping it leads to fire service down the road. Here goes nothing lol gonna give it my all and work harder than ever based off this video :)
EMTs: memorizing drug dosages in the toilet My dentist: "Just take one ibuprofen every 8 hours for this root canal, it's what we give to a 70lb grandma so you should be fine"
Gained 30lbs 1st and 2nd years, then lost 50lbs 3rd and 4th year of my paramedic degree, then put 40lbs back on over the last 3 years of road work. Thank God I'm in HEMS now and can start to have a life again 😂
I used to nap on the toilet in the Navy. I was so tired I would lean over and rest my head on the toilet paper roll and just nap for a few minutes. Even fell asleep standing up once.
You forgot about the divorces and breakups, begining of the 5th semester I had to drop out with just 3 months to go when my wife decided to hand me divorce papers and take my kids 2,000 miles across the country to live. It took me thousands of dollars and months of fear and anxiety to get my kids back, good news was after 3 weeks of them being gone, I had lost 75 pounds because I lived on cigarettes, mountain dew, and coffee with occasional heavy doses of alcohol thrown in. P.S. begining of second semester, we took a pole of the 18 remaining students (started with 63) and found that EVERY single person in class had been diagnosed or began treatment for anxiety or depression. We would compare drug Interaction and efficacies of the different antidepressants and anxialytics we all took, never thought I could stay focused, much less awake, with 20mg of valium on board, but with an a**hole instructor like mine, I did and passed the mid terms..
Yeah it suckes but the Lord only ever puts us through the trials he knows we can pass, it all worked out for the best. The kids came back after 1 month and the wife came back after 6. We ended up getting back together and having another child the next year, I went back and finished up my medic and have had it for coming up on 12 years now and the wife and I have been the happiest we ever were since that time, as for the drinking, mine never got out of hand like some let it. I will go 6 months to a year with having only 1 or 2 drinks, then go the next year or 6 months drinking once a week. My hangovers are too bad for me to want to drink hard for any length of time.
How does it work in US..? In belgium you need to get you nursing bachelor degree 4 years and then a year of emergency and intensive care before you can go with the ambulance. There is also a course of 6 months but thats pure for driving the ambulance and helping.
Remember all of this vividly....... because I am living it all over in nurse anesthesia school 25 years later- except this time its 3 yrs instead of 13 months- something must be wrong with me
Funny I clearly remember my first call as a paramedic including partner and address over 35 years ago and my last including partner and call all the middle stuff is a blur
I take my practical exam tomorrow.. Its all too real. The waking up with the sticky note, first thing I thought of was "shit, lidocaine dosage"... And I wasn't far off from the video lol.
@@2bwise1day It’s called percom. Its self paced and really affordable. Its mostly based in Texas , I wouldn’t do it unless you can afford to travel to Texas for skills and you may have to travel far for clinicals depending on where you’re at. they do have clinics around the country, but I would check.
