The Romulan input on the _Khitomer_ was under the hood - it has a cloak. They had more input on the design of the next Alliance ship, the _Temer_-class raider.
@@JeanLucCaptain Yep, the name of your ship appears on one side in English, and on the other in a Klingon transliteration. Also like the fact that the default prefix is AFS, for "Allied Fleet Ship", and the registry numbers start with CSN, which doesn't seem to mean anything but separates it nicely from Starfleet's standard NCC (or NX, for experimental ships).
Proud CO of a Khitomer Class in STO. AFS Midway. She's a wonderful ship. She flies smooth, has a fantastic weapons suite, and looks absolutely amazing.
I like the Khitomer-class in STO especially once I set it up as a tank-build and using the Ba'ul AP weapons. Khitomer-class with either Ba'ul or Section 31 vanity shield look real good.
Go to Eagle marsh the Star Trek collection and check out the Star Trek online ships I have a Europa class and a brown class LeBron was seen in Star Trek discovery both of them have foreign cells and are just really sweet designs you can also pick up the enterprise F which was a fan design ship and I think one of the best designs of a ship named enterprise after the constitution class refit
yea it looks good, but its not a good ship. I play space wizard in STO so i use "Well Class" 29th Century Timeship or the "Verne class" the Successor to the Well.
@@kenwaid8239 Eaglemoss, yes. I'm still out to get some, but as my main source was the NEC yearly Trek convention in Birmingham UK, that's not been an option lately. Reluctant to go through the whole Amazon banking details plus expenditure and shipping too, for now. I'm guessing some of the rare ones are getting expensive, too? Generally I only seek out Starfleet designs, at least.
I think the New Orleans kitbash makes sense as a torp. frigate, the US Navy had them too and honestly makes it a believable and simple warship Also about 20 years ago in the late 90's, my dad took a Micro machines model of a D7 battlecruiser and a Constitution class, and made the Khitomer class 2 decades before Star Trek Online did, so that's something pretty neat that a lot of people had the same idea
The Federation didn't make warships. The Defiant is literally talked about as being the first warship built by the Federation. Starfleet in TOS and TNG was always more like NOAA combined with a Coast Guard not the US Navy.
I love the Khitomer-class Battlecruiser, it is just a nice, hardy, all-rounder ship, with a really well hybridised design. Its got enough go, to fly alongside raiders and frigates, yet it also has the oomph to allow it to sit beside crusiers and battleships happily ploughing away. I'd love to see a Part 3 of this, cuz then you could talk about the Temer-class Raider, which is a Romulan/Klingon hybrid for the Alliance. I also predict that the next Alliance ship will be a Carrier which hybrisies and shows off the Dominion's contributions, with them maybe picking Starfleet as their partner. Also, STO also has the Dauntless being copied from Voyager's readings and schematics of it, that the CoE just decided to prototype one day. It's a good Tour of the Galaxy ship. It doesn't have quite the highest maximum possible speed, but if you spec it right, it will be the most manoeuvrable and is actually more manoeuvrable at whilst the QSD is running than it will at maximum warp. It's soooo wrong, but soooooo goood.
Candidate for your rare Starfleet ship design part 3 video: the Alliance Temer Raider. It's a Romulan/ Klingon hybrid. So see, Romulans get love after all.
The Dauntless did in the end *become a Starfleet ship.* In the ultimate irony Starfleet built a copy of the "fake" ship from the detailed scans and notes Voyager made and reverse engineered it [one of the few occasions where Starfleet bothers to try and reverse engineer more advanced ships - are they scared of *copyright*?],* as a testbed to work out how to create a Quantum Slipstream drive ship that can _comfortably cruise_ without falling out of the slipstream. * I have a theory that the reason no copyrighted material _ever appears in Star Trek_ and that they only use public domain entertainment is a hold over from the horrors of WW3 - which grew out of the *copyright wars* of the 21st century… a litigation between Samsung and Apple got out of hand and 🚀💥
Lies!. Everyone knows The Disney Holy Empire ruled since the start of the documented history (c) and the sole mention of those invented "rival companies" are pure heresy.
I would equate it to the Indian or Chinese navy (or was it both) buying a Russian carrier and then reverse engineering it to start their own carrier production line.
In the New Orleans class those pods could be Mission specific as you said extra sensors etc. but quite a few of them are indeed massive torpedo launchers making the New Orleans class a ship not to be trifled with
No one needs massive torpedo launchers. The sensor pods are actually better than torpedos. It's a shame nobody realized that until after Wolf 359. Turns out, if you focus all three trinary emitters on one target at close range, the burning beams of radiation those things pump out will slice holes in most ships. Turns out the Federation has a history of overengineering perfectly benign ideas into OMGWTF style Genesis-Level Bad Day material. After about 30 years, they figured it out and started commissioning the ships specifically to use their sensors to wreck people's days.
So three sensor pods somehow make a OP laser and the federation doesnt abuse this? Perhaps its the close range parred with Federation stupidity. Also Id rather have 3 massive torpedo launchers, like idc what ship you have from any normal alpha quadrant empire, if I sink 100 rapid fire photon torpedo's into you, Im probably gonna wreck ya.
When I played FASA's Star Trek (pen & paper) role-playing game, my first ship that I captained was a Saladin class... unless there are other one-nacelle destroyers. I could have sworn the class had a different name. It was outfitted as a "glass cannon", it had way more firepower than its peers and quite the opposite in shields. It was originally designed as a heavy-hitting escort that joins a battle already on the way, fires everything it has, then goes evasive. I had fun with it because I crippled ships larger than mine really quickly and enemies tended to almost instantly underestimate my ship's firepower. USS Grenadier was a fun little ship until we limped away from a Gorn task force we couldn't cripple... if they landed even one more hit blast the USS Grenadier would have been dust. They would have pursued if we didn't launch one rear-mounted torpedo at the giant power plant on the planet. Not very Federation of us but they had a choice... pursue us or assist with damage control before the entire colony implodes from that experimental singularity plant. Well, the mission was to eventually learn about that singularity power plant but I figured simply fail the mission or get torn apart by Gorn. Instead of a court-martial, we were transferred to command a newly constructed Constitution-class while the Grenadier was decommissioned. That allowed a larger variety of missions but wasn't nearly as fun.
Wow that alliance ship really shows respect to everyone in the alliance , combines federation and klingon shape , but inside i imagine it have romulan parts. And those marks showing the symbol of the khitomer alliance and klingon letters really makes it awesome.
I've always been partial to the Dauntless class myself. Reminds me of a squid-like creature speeding through space. Would love to see that ship updated and fleshed out, if for no other purpose than as a testbed for new warp/slipstream technologies.
I personally really like the New Orleans class, Ive read from some places that those pods were able to be exchanged for other mission specific ones. But Im pretty sure they could be massive torpedo launchers, and that's what id go for. Basically massive ammo dumps for rapid fire photon/quantum torpedo's, which if done right probably will overwhelm/destroy most if not all conventional enemy ships. Thats the kind of ship I would want to command in the federation, id personally rather not get blown up because my ship doesn't know what it is. Also, this sort of Mass Torpedo Assault mindset is definitely a way to get around the power drain Phasers put on ships. Which could be rerouted to shields, potentially giving Torpedo heavy ships better defensive and punishing offensive capabilities. Infact Id probably go about designing a warship that essentially has either multiple warp cores for double+ available power for phasers/shields paired with massive Torpedo launchers. Kinda like the defiant paired with the New Orleans with superior shields and more alpha strike capabilities
One of the things I respect STO for is that you can sort of kit-bash your ship. Of course, they come from similar ship designs but in the context of the game, it makes sense as its a time of great conflict and Starfleet is getting their hands on as many ships as possible. Makes sense that they'd build a few extra ships from parts lying around the shipyards.
He should do a whole video profiling what he thinks is the top 10 best STO ship designs. Khitomer-class IMO would be joined by the Durgath-class Temporal Dreadnaught, Tzen-Tarr Tzenkethi Dreadnaught.
When I obtained the Khitomer class I was disappointed that there were no Romulan parts to it. Since I play as a Romulan I gave it all Romulan weapons and shields. It turned out nicely with the green tint to it. :)
I've always liked that Dauntless design & thought of it being a good scout type vessel. I had always thought those "markers" were suppose to be weapon pods on that New Orleans class too. I like the Khitomer class from STO. I think Cryptic have done themselves well so far with it & the Temer following their "alliance" idea brand of starships.
The Saladin was not the only ship from TOS tech manual shown in that scene from ST III and in the scene from TMP aboard the orbiting office complex there's some back ground chatter which mentions more than one of the sips from that manual.
You know I would love to see a new star trek series set in the star trek online universe there are so many events that have taken place in the game that it would be great to see those from the perspective of a non player ship in the same time frame.
I would have loved to see the Cheyenne class more. I know the model wouldn't have held up to scrutiny, but I mean a higher quality one. There's something about it that I think is really cool. I also have a very soft spot for the New Orleans class. It seems really kinda gorgeous and as a teen I used to imagine living on board different kinds of ships
From starship designs I remember was as mentioned, The Larson Class, Chandly Class, Bakerloo Class which was a very similar or extremely close design to the Crossfield I.e. USS Discovery. In the Klingon starship there was the L42 Bird of Prey I.e. Startrek search for Spock, also the D32 Bird of Prey bigger design of the aforementioned L42.
Some good FASA designs there, although many do not fit the mass bracket they are assigned, if they all use 'to scale' nacelles and Connie saucers, @Daniel Thorp . Isn't it just Baker-class, not Bakerloo, though?
@@chrissonofpear1384 I remember distinctly remember a Bakerloo class starship. It was back in the 80s I read the Fasa files. I could be possibly wrong though.
The Khitomer class resembles what a bunch of second rate Alpha Quadrant races built right after the Dominion War. Not just the Pakleds, if you had warp capability just get your _NX Enterprise equivalent_ and make like the crew of Red Dwarf. There were a lot of pieces of Klingon and Federation (and Romulan and Dominion and so on) ships just drifting around. It would have been a great time to salvage and tech up, as long as your Homeworld wasn't in a strategically important location and therefore fought over. "Okay there a lot of these D7 things just drifting with the bridge shot off, why don't we attach those Oberth Saucers - the engineering canoes of those are _always_ getting destroyed, leaving just those bits with any crew that didn't make it to a escape pod pasted along the inner hull… and no snacking on the remains, if Federation catch you doing that the Hoomins get irate."
I personally hate the Khitomer Class. Then again, considering it went from wild-ass design concept in some Admiral's office to literal combat duty in less than two years is showing how much they really cared beyond its symbolism. This is what happens when Politics come before Pragmatism.
Kit bashing is always fun. Back before you had 3D print your models (mid 90's) I took a K'Tinga, Klingon Bird of Prey, and the Enterprise-B kits put the BoP Head on the K'Tinga body with the Enterprise engines. I also put a Rotating cannon on the raised portion of the K'Tinga Hull. After that I built a Sea Quest kit and made it a planet Buster for the ship. From the leftover parts I took the K'Tinga head and engines and put them on the BoP body without the wings. Butting the side of the engine to the wing mounts. I added the BoP wing Disruptors on the under belly. The first was dubbed the Geek'tal class and was ment to be comparable to maybe twice the size of Defiant. 12 decks, 50 crew. The second one I decided it would be a double duty hull. Some would be Frigates 300-400 troops the others would be mine laying ships. The gimmick being that the ship implemented technology based on Rom's Idea. Instead of mine storage it would have replication systems to replicate the mines and deploy them. So no ordinance explosions just large power reserves for replication. I also made a moble repair bay from parts of models my dad used to make the Enterprise C a few months after Yesterday's Enterprise.
It would be interesting to see some ST series or movie that takes place in 25-26th century, where Klingon Empire is close allay or even part of the Federation, and where there are Star Fleet-Klingon ships with majority Klingon crew. Imagine some Klingon captain who was send on remote planet to do Captain Picard level political stuff :D I'd love to see this!
A variation of the Saladin class was in the game Star Trek: 25th Anniversary. Though in that game it was a Tug/Tender class with only a crew of 22 that was hijacked by Elasi Pirates and you had to resolve the situation.
I imagined something like the Kithomer class when I was a kid. I envisioned it as a TOS Constitution saucer on a TOS era D7 drive section with a minimal neck.
The Romulans got their influence on the Khitomer Alliance designs with the Temer-Class Raider, which incorporated more bird-of-prey/warbird elements and was named after a Romulan Commander who sacrificed himself to protect the alliance between the early Romulan Republic and the Klingon Empire and Federation.
I think that the Federation has long used their own variants of Klingon designs. I know the show gets a lot of hate, but look at Discovery. Delta wing like structure and in line nacelles. Similar to an extent of the Vor'cha class except having the typical round dish. Also the Defiant Class. While not similar, it's probably also the result of Kirk's capture of a Bird of Prey. It was still in San Francisco bay and could have been retrieved and studied. So between the need for a Borg fighter and the Bird of Prey speed, toughness, and ferocity, Starfleet made an answer to the BOP, the Defiant Class. Tech reverse engineering is nothing new. Bela Oxmyx's people became gangsters due to the USS Horizon leaving contamination. Books, radio, and because the Iotians are mimics, they eventually found a damaged Romulan ship and reversed engineered it's warp drive and the Iotians became warp capable. I wonder if they even managed to copy the USS Enterprise. So it's a game of chess with the powers finding alien tech and making it work for them.
The Cheyenne class with its 4 nacelles is kind of cool, while not sure yet on the Khitomer-class, throwing a Federation saucer on a Kvort-class Bird-of-prey body.
The Temer Class is where the Romulans shine, but the Khitomer has romulan influence on the cloak for example, as its more advanced as the Klingons. Its a nice ship.
The old table top game books were the first to try and explain why the neck was the way it was. I believe as well in Star Fleet Battles. Its also the first place the foreheads were explained.
In the early 1980's I had the Blue Prints book for Star Trek that had all the ships and tried combining the saucer and connecting fin of the Constellation class with the Engineering/Warp drive of the D6 Klingon Battle Cruiser. I inverted the Federation parts so they hung between the warp nacelles. I do like the Khitomer class.
Those are exterior torpedo magazines on the New Orleans class. Other media explains they were added to the class to make it a more effective warship in the Cardassian war.
@@chrissonofpear1384 I've seen it a few places, but Venom Geek Media goes into considerable detail about the Cardassian wars and might even have a breakdown of the New Orleans class.
I think the Cheyenne’s saucer sep looking thing is probably a manufacturing seam as industrial replicators would use similar plans. But other lore says that it’s the first galaxy project ship to test separation features.
The Khitomer actually the D'Deridex bi-wing style for the Romulan influence. And the next ship produced by the alliance was a straight Warbird, Bird of Prey hybrid.
