so basically Fuji is the Nintendo of cameras - they dance to the beat of their own drum. And that's how you carve out a loyal fanbase.

paying for the most underpowered systems while never ever lowering their prices? charging for the most basic services (p2p)? nah, fuji is way above nintendo. I cant think of any brand in the camera world that treat its customers as bad as nintendo, to be honest.

Andrew, I was a very early adopter of the Fujifilm X System, I had been a 42 year Nikon user, the last eleven of those years as a Nikon Professional Services Tech Rep for the Southern U.S. I would have bet anyone I would have to the grave a Nikon shooter! After shoulder surgery I found full frame cameras and lenses to painful to deal with. While still working for Nikon I needed a small very high quality camera to use until air recovered from my surgery. I bought a Fujifilm X10, secretly, and absolutely fell in love with it! Now 8 years later I’m a Fujifilm X-Photographer who owns virtually every lens the have made! I said all that to affirm everything you said in this video. I have all the same feelings and by-the-way really enjoy your insights! Thank you and keep them coming!

I shoot canon, but it doesn’t stop me from seeing videos on other camera brands. I find it interesting what each camera brand has to offer. Leica and Fuji have been standing out to me more lately . I enjoy seeing other videos on different cameras especially since I can’t afford and test out these cameras myself lolll.

As a creators tr hat has 2 channels and Over 260k subscribers on youtube, I am obsessed with gear, Had gas for a while, Now own A Eos R ANDa Fuji Xt3. I use the canon because it has the 28 to 70 that I spent too much on amd is an amazing lense, But i go for my Fuji 99% of the time. There is something about how it snaps, how it feels, the way it renders, That just feels SO Good! If the I think If Fuji went Full frame they would CRUSH everyone else. Yet they will never do that, which says alot about the company itself. I love switching into all the advanced color modes, and color pop. I LOVE Fuji so much that I would never sell it just to have around to hamd down.

I long ago found why Fuji keeps my attention, and that is because I enjoy the experience behind taking an image. The analog nature of these cameras which brings about a very visceral experience, has become such a staple in why I take images. "The anticipation of the capture," as you so nicely put it, keeps me coming back. Despite allure and enticement to be elsewhere, I'm stuck here.

I’m a huge Fuji fan, have an XT3, hybrid myself, shooting with Helios 44m and Supertakumar 35 mm. You top 5 are so on point. I’m an amateur photographer and I so my assumption was going back and fourth between still and video settings was me just not being skilled enough. My biggest take away from your opinion and mine, is Fuji is just dam fun to shoot with, and that to me is the most important thing. Your a great presenter, really enjoyed this video! It took me years to decide on Fujifilm, having always been drawn to the film-like designs, and their apparent ease of use. But I was invested in another system. I then realised that I wasn’t using my camera as much as I wanted, because it was big, and heavy, and just not quick to have there. Eventually I bought an X-T2 used to try out, and an immediate decision to sell up and switch was made. Much easier to use, and the regular firmware updates are a bonus! Much like your thoughts, Andrew, I missed the film feel from when I was a child/teen with my old Pentax 35mm bodies, and I have taken so many more photos with my fujifilm kit than with my old system, just because I can carry it around much more easily. The best camera is the one you have with you! (and i love that 16mm 1.4 !)

This is exactly why in my view smaller systems (APS-C, and even smaller Micro Four Thirds) are the best cameras for most people. It's just much more likely that people will take with themselves such small cameras and lenses when they are going outside. That means much more photos and much more photography practicing (which means much more than slightly better characteristics of FF sensors).

Thanks for the interesting video. My 1st photographic love was Nikon and as they say, you never forget your first. I remember going with a friend to Nikon House in Rockefeller Center in the mid-seventies. He had a Nikon SLR that was not working. He handed it over to a Japanese technician who worked in a booth with a large glass window. He did not speak English but we watched as he took the camera apart and put it back together , repairing whatever was wrong with it. He then came out of the booth, bowed and handed the camera back to my friend. Almost 20 years later I was finally able to buy my first camera. A Nikon N50, a camera most aficionados would is better left forgotten. This was followed by a Nikon N-90s and then a used and somewhat battered FM2. I still have all these cameras, although all of the parts in the D50 seem to have merged into one mass - it’s still a great decoration. Once digital came along, Nikon no longer resonated. I shot Pentax for awhile but their lenses were better than their cameras. After a lot of starts and stops and life taking me away from photography for extended periods, I finally settled on Fuji. I agree with everything Andrew has said here. I now have an XT 3 and an X100V and am pretty much set for gear. But, if I would get just one more camera, with high megapixels and especially for landscapes, it would be the Nikon DSLR D850. Just one more camera, I think with a sigh - if only you could go home again, if only Nikon had never closed Nikon House, if only I had a clue about what happened with my friend from so many years ago.

Kudos to you Andrew. I've been a Fujica user since 1983 when Popular Photography reviewed Fuji standard color film vs Kodak's. I was immediately drawn to the saturated colors of their color chemistry over Kodak's warm tinted color chemistry. My first SLR was a Fujica STX-1, similar to the Pentax K1000, totally manual. I had read that the company also donated to animal welfare groups in the 90s. I was so impressed that I just knew I made the right choice. I've had a variety of simple point-n-shoot digitals and a digital prosumer SLR. I have also been a stereo photography hobbiest for 20 or so years. I began with several old stereo film cameras and now shoot with a Fuji digital W3 stereo. You say the company lags behind other camera companies but I see a company in Fuji that will put dollars into R&D for things that are not mainstream (as with the W3 and the Instax cameras). Kudos to you and enjoy your Fuji tech.

I really appreciate your direct videos. In fact, several of your videos inspired me to get a Fuji XT3 (seriously it was delivered on 3/27/2020). I'll admit it's much more of a camera I probably need, but I did want a camera with powerful features, not necessarily the newest and most desired features. But a truly functional camera capable of traveling in a wide array of extreme weathers like the snow at Mt Rose, NV and the summer heat of rural Lake County, CA. And the video recording options far exceed my expectations and needs, I mean it's almost like it were meant to be. From my very short time experimenting and playing with camera features. I can say without a doubt that the color I see in a video/photo taken on my new but used XT3 has been mesmerizing. Truly a notable difference in in image quality and bundle that into a very portable powerful camera = me super stoked!!! For me it has been a rekindled passion for taking photographs and your mantra "digital art with an analog heart" resonates strongly with me. Thank you for your videos and keep doing what you do!!

Wow... what a thoughtfully exhilarating tribute to this craft and why you find Fuji such an intelligent and attractive solution. Having paid my way through college with an EOS 650 and running a dark room I understand well the soul of analogue. I sold all my Nikon DSLR kit 2 years ago and have been sitting on the fence studying the different systems, renting possibilities, and weighing the offerings with price-points etc. So in the end... having recently moved where I could finally try out an XT-3... I surprisingly just loved it! the XT-4 solved all the main factors I was still leaning toward the Canon R or R5 and hit or came close to the benchmarks of every other system. With 6 children, I need lightweight, ease of use, superb craftsmanship, cost-effective, while still having heart :). the XT-4 ticks all the boxes. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thanks! Subbed. Update: We homeschool all 6 of our kids as well :). Photography plays a large roll in everything from artistic endeavor, physics, history, etc. etc. My 11 year old has been published already lol.

I only recently re-entered the photography hobby by buying a DSLR then quickly sold it to buy a full-frame camera--both were from Canon. I have very little experience in comparison to you or most other people who frequent these types of forums. I really like my camera a lot and am very happy that you enjoy your Fuji's. And, I appreciate that you recognize that there are many cameras out there that take very good pictures. Really, your position really just comes down to the fact that it fits your personality and how you approach photography. As for a business's "soul", that seems like icing on the proverbial cake. Thanks for your insight and your sharing them with us.

I can't help to think that Fuji camera's are just like the first car I ever owned and paid from my own pocket, an Alfa Romeo :) ..there seems to be a passion that goes into it's design..I use an EOS R as my daily but on the side I do enjoy my X-t3 and I do love the the tactile nature of it. The colour simulations are also nice and bring me back to film days and that sense of occasion using different film emulsion for specific looks. I think a sense of occasion does excite me and I think more camera companies should also focus on the emotive quality that a camera can provide it's user, hope to see more efforts like this too from other companies that the experience of using the camera is also a very important thing to develop further too

Thanks for sharing tour reasons on why you will stick with Fuji, I can totally relate to them. Having started in photography with a Nikon DSLR, last year I decided to change to Fuji. I bought a XT2 and man do I love my camera. I love the SOOC jpegs, the analog dials and the thing I really love the most... Its the price, way cheaper than Sony, Canon and Nikon. In overall terms, ir doesn't matter if FUJI has an apsc sensor, for most photos, either to post on social media or even to print are at a size that you cannot tell the difference if it was shot on FF ir not. If I had money I would have one of each brand, because nowadays all brands have tremendous quality. Thank you for your content, an avid viewer gere.

The first digital camera I bought was xpro1, still have it and use it.then xt1 which I sold recently. It was all about the shooting experience for me and I loved the colours. My X100V in black came last week, I’m loving it. The new lens was just what it needed, I never got on with the lens, just too soft for my close shots. I did get a second hand D700 ( to use my old film lenses ) but it’s the Fuji’s I love to use. it’s about how they feel, they make you want to go out and shoot, so it’s win win

Fuji changed my whole interest in photography. I originally got my XT3 and moved from Canon to help my filming for my Vaping Biker channel because it seemed the best bang for buck when it came to video offerings, and it looked great. Since owning my T3 it's literally made me want to shoot more and so I've got way more into product photography as a result. I don't know if it's the look and feel of the camera body, the tactile nature of the controls, or the images that come out. But one thing I am sure of, is that if I didn't get into the Fuji line, for whatever reason, I wouldn't have the passion I now have to be a better photographer and videographer. I since bought a cheap T20 as a second camera mainly for live streams, and I can't see myself moving away from this system for a long time. Not to say there aren't things I'd like - more native lenses, an app that's way better, and stabilisation obv, but nothing is perfect, and for me the Fuji system helps my imaging journey.

@reyvinre 4 года назад
@@andreslinn69 Hi Andreas. The switch to fuji from my perspective was not that the x-h1 is a better camera. A6400 is abosultely wonderful gear, but I realized that I was not so enthusiastic using it. But once I got chance to use fuji, I wanted to grab it and go out for shoot everyday. It is just so fun to use all that dials. And it made me happier on still side, video is def better on sony. And the other important point for me was IBIS. Got couple vintage lenses and this came handy for me. In conclusion you have do make your own research and decide what is good for you. Hope I could be helpful. Peace.

Wonderful editorial! My most used camera is the Fujifilm X10, purchased in 2011...and its classic design always wows me. Yes, it has a smaller 2/3 EXR CMOS sensor, but it still takes awesome images. I shoot mostly street photography, so the excellent 28-112 F2.0-F2.8 lens is incredible...and given that the camera is almost a decade old, takes pretty darn good video.

While I still own a Nikon D750 and a D850 and still have several dozen lenses for them, my Fuji gear is what I reach for first. I've since sold the XT-2 and picked up an XH-1. To my eye, the Fuji images have a certain je nes se quoi about them that no other camera system seems to have. More recently I added the gfx50r to my bag and it's been a super rewarding experience to shoot with. The only thing that prevents me from selling off my Nikon gear is the vast lens selection. That said, as Fuji continues to fill out their lens line up the need to keep my old gear continues to shrink. In the end, perhaps most importantly, Fuji is simply more enjoyable to use.

Thank you for this video. Loved the comment "digital art with an analogue heart". I still shoot a lot of film and love the tactile feel of film cameras as opposed to the digital ones I own. Digital has advantages over film but Fuji seem to be the only manufacturer that still provides that tactile feel. Don't own a fuji camera yet but....

Reasons why I would always choose Fuji: 1. Great lenses at reasonable prices 2. Excellent build quality 3. Nothing beats Acros 3.5: Better skin colors. Seriously. Sony's skin colors tend to make Asian skin really yellow for some reason 4. Retro styling all the way man

Are you also happy with the colors for landscape? Only looked at (many) test images, skin tones look great but everything with nature seems a bit flat compared with Canon and Nikon. That is one of the reasons that prevent me from looking deeper into this camera/buying a X-T3 or X-T4 ...

Fugi sort of reminds me of my 1st Minolta SLR I bought in 1969. I loved that camera experience. I'm considering now an x pro 2 (don't like the LCD on the pro 3). Also anxious to see the xh2 (don't like the LCD on the xt4). But I'm defiantly into the fugi system. Great video.

This video is awesome and i really appreciate it! I'm glad you opened up about your thoughts on pursuing other brands for better account exposure bc ive been debating the same. Its refreshing to have someone have such an honest passion for the companionship between the artist and their tool. I've been doing a lot of research on cameras trying to find the right 1st one and you have convinced me! Im going to be a Fuji Girl -Miley :)

Good points, Andrew. I agree with all of that. Personally, I chose Fuji based on reviews and comparison videos from several people, including you. I got back into photography recently and could start fresh with no legacy equipment. As an amateur, I can prioritize how it feels to me - its “soul”, if you will. And, sure, for pros a camera can be a tool chosen for power and customizability. But some people prioritize how it feels and want something they enjoy using, even considering other trade-offs.

Very compelling! I bought a Fuji X-T2 in October 2018. One main reason was the weight. I wanted a camera with some weight to balance well with many lenses. At that time, there were even benefits to Fuji that wasn't aware of! I primarily have wished for faster continuous photos and higher standard for video, so I might upgrade some day. I have been anticipating the upcoming Viltrox and Tokina lenses for my desire to do better nature photography.

Very interesting point about brand choice and ratings potential - never gets discussed much (funnily enough !) and naively I've never thought about it, but of course it's true. Always an interesting slant on things here. Thanks

HI Andrew, I just wanted to say thank you for putting together this video. I think you've just become one of my favourite channels. There's alot of points you've highlighted that resonates with me, and a couple of interesting perspective about the Fujifilm company which I did not know about. I've just discovered Fujifilm X-T30 recently as I've always been watching the SONY A6xxx series for many years and have always wanted to buy one. Every youtube video I watch reaffirms that the X-T30 is the right one for me (not a professional, but only use camera for travel mainly, which is only a couple of times a year). Watching your blind colour science test with the Canons continues to push me to Fujifilm. Do you think that Fujifilm will continue to exist or support the (X-mount) system. Or with all the electronics in cameras now a days require upgrades within a 5 year life cycle?

While I do not shoot with Fuji, I can certainly appreciate why you do. I have been shooting on Nikon exclusively for the last 15 years. My most recent addition is an F4. I love the colors from my D4 and D4s cameras but there is something magic about the F4: knobs and dials and buttons all in just the right places.

In addition to tribalism regarding brands, I think there is an almost instinctive trait of treating physical objects as talismans. People get “attached” (almost literally) to everything from watches to cameras to motorcycles, seemingly believing that, by wearing a Rolex (for example) nonstop, they become “a Rolex person” or that the watch becomes part of their character. As I said, I think that has to do with our fascination with tool making. Regarding brands, I do think that the imaging division of Fujifilm includes people who are dedicated to art in design as well as to color profiles, ergonomics, and advances in usability. Look at the Cinema5D BTS films on the development of the GFX 100. Thank you for this interesting video!

Thank you very much for that. I agree right down the line with you. Let me give you an example from my experience. I was once staying with friends in Santa Fe when I saw on a wall a large, probably medium format, print of a Provia shot taken in a small New Mexico town, with the typical New Mexico colours. That image grabbed me straightaway, and has stuck with me since then, that is, since about 1978. So when I started using Fuji digital cameras, largely because of the size and easy manipulability, I hit upon Provia again, and I thought: that's what a colour photo should look like.

I do enjoy shooting with Fuji much more than other brands mostly because the camera and adapting manual lenses has taught me to slow down and enjoy the process. I started with film and manual lenses back in the early 90’s. Switched to digital back in the early 2000’s and canon. Fuji has brought back my initial passion for making an image and utilizing the full potential of what a camera can do, more importantly it has helped me be more creative. My xt3 has been down for the last 6 months which left me using my other camera, the Sony A7r2. Have to get the Fuji repaired. Truly miss the system and the fun factor even though the Sony is capable.

So first I wanted to say I've been really enjoying and appreciating your videos. I've long wanted to get into photography and they've been invaluable in my decision-making process. Due in no small part to your thorough and informative breakdowns (along with conversations with a friend and a few other factors) I decided to join the Fujifilm family (for many of the reasons you listed), and now have a lightly-used bun in the oven; we're expecting a beautiful, bouncing, X-T2 with an XF 27mm f2.8 next Saturday, May 16th. : ) It wasn't my first choice of lens, but it was at a good price point, and I was inspired by your video about starting out with prime lenses. So I'm pretty excited! I did have a question, though; at the moment I'm not super interested in the videography side of it, but I've heard mixed reviews in regard to using the X-T2 for video, with some of the negatives being that it's noisy (largely lens-dependent?), and that the mic preamp, when using an external mic, doesn't sound that great. Have you had any issues with these things? What are your thoughts about using this model for video? A couple thoughts on things I've recently been pleasantly surprised and impressed by regarding Fujifilm: A, the continuing support they provide their older cameras (I just discovered the most recent X-T2 firmware update was dated as recently as about two months ago!), which tells me they care just as much about their "legacy" users (e.g., by relieving the pressure to upgrade by providing new features to older cameras) as they do about their cutting-edge, always-gotta-have-the-latest photographers. And B, learning about all the community support they provide is a heartening moment, and is something I think other companies could take a cue on.

I used the xt2 for semi professional event videography with zero complaints. there's always going to be something better. but the xt2 is fine, especially if it's not for professional work.

excellent topic.. Fujifilm has been exceptional is so many ways.. I was a die hard Nikon fan.. but eventually moved to Fujifilm.. XT-1, XT-3, XT-20.. but i think the most amazing thing about the fujifilm system are the lenses.. I was comparing a 100% plastic Nikon lens to a fujifilm metal prime lens.. literally changed my mind on the spot! sold all my nikon gear.. and been enjoying exploring the fujifilm family of cameras and lenses... zero regrets!

I never had a Fuji camera and not planning to buy one in near future, but still watch your videos time to time. I find your perspective reasonable and often that relates well to other brands. I use Olympus at the moment (there are still a few of us! :D ) but your video comparing the f/2 Fuji lenses to the faster bigger ones, was, for example, very relatable to me, because I was wondering over the f/1.2 pro primes by Olympus at the time... So, don't wary about particular brands. When done well, a video for Fuji can be useful to the users of other cameras too. Another one I remember was about the relevance of the amount of bokeh (or as some call it Toneh :D ) in portraits. That's for all brands and models too... So, keep working and if the work is good, there will be viewers ;)
