5 Reasons to Buy a 2023 Toyota Highlander (What’s New?)

The 2023 Toyota Highlander is not the typical image associated with an awesome SUV. But for families who don’t want a bloated suv, it’s among the best out there. Today I’ll show you why you may want to consider one over (or alongside) the Subaru Ascent, Kia Telluride, Honda Pilot and more.
Thank you, Royal South Toyota, for letting me test drive a couple Highlanders over the years!

Another super review that doesn't require 30 minutes of viewing time! Highlander seems to know what it is, and many want exactly that. Cheers

Give this a chance? Toyota is the most reliable brand! Purchased a 23 Highlander platinum.. more power than my 21 Lexus GX … takes regular fuel and the gas engine (AWD) gets 28 mpg with all luxury features you find on a Lexus!

I drove a '22(V6) and a '23(4C Turbo) back to back and it's not even close. The 4C Turbo was just working so much harder to meet my demands. It had zip, yes. But it felt and sounded straight up bad vs the V6. It's an inferior match for this frame in my opinion. My test drive was carrying just me and the dealership guy. I wouldn't want to experience it with a load of gear or towing anything. Forget about the extra concerns with Turbo engines in cold climates. Plus tons extra parts to wear out and break. The outgoing V6 was quiet, confident, and buttery smooth. It has earned the reputation of being one of the most reliable engines ever put on American roads. Toyota engineers didn't want this switch to make a better end product. Toyota customers weren't asking for this switch. It's all to meet emission standards. That's fine and good it's the direction of the industry. For me I'm very happy I found a super low milage '22 with the most refined version of the V6. Who wants to be a first-generation adopter of anything? The last year-models of all lineups to feature naturally aspirated V6/V8s before the Turbo switch comes for them will definitely hold value. For costs as high as these late model Highlanders, I encourage potential buyers to drive both engines to experience the difference.

Honda Pilot still comes with 3.5 V6 . Toyota should have done the same. Nobody wants 2.4 turbo in a big SUV.

Ok... I just (a little less than a month ago) traded in my 2012 v6 hybrid for a 2023 hybrid. Old avg mpg 25 New so far (nice weather no AC) avg 30 for city/hwy mix and in the 40s lot of times for shorter errands. It's very capable and not "under" powered by any means.. BUT to be clear... If you enjoyed the hybrid v6 bc of how fun it was too drive and how "responsive" it felt.... Well a good portion of that is.. gone Not all of it but you will notice the difference. Oh and the wireless charger is 💩... The plate is slick as hell and contact is inconsistent at BEST.... Interior is quieter with the 9 years of progress. The cargo cover can be stashed under the floor board.. and that's awesome. And as of now, without getting into trim line specifics, that's about it

V6 models probably just got a small price bump in the used market for potential buyers.

I think they’ve actually gone down? As the whole market has.

Hi 2 weeks back i purchased 2023 highlander front wheel drive. It has snow button. I stay in michigan. My friend said we need all wheel drive in michigan. Awd is mandatory for snow or fwd with snow mode is enough plz sugges
@Realistick

You're fine, just don't drive through a blizzard and if you live in a more secluded or hilly area, I'd recommend snow tires. Having AWD is nice but not "mandatory."

You forgot to mention the power folding side view mirrors - a major improvement! On the downside, I've been driving a new Platinum Hybrid for about two weeks and I've already discovered two things that annoy me, and for which I think Toyota should be ashamed of. (1) the heated steering wheel is only heated on the sides. The top and bottom of the wheel is not heated. I like driving with my hand on the top of the wheel, but as it's not heated, I have to hold the sides while in use. I find this inexcusable. And (2) my Highlander came with a $450 "SmartLED Ambient Lighting" option. As many car companies are now using this technology to light door panels, dash elements, etc., I expected the same. However, all this option does is allow you to change the color of the footwell and console storage box lighting. Worse still, it's not integrated into the car which means you have to use an app on your cell phone to change things, and it only works if Android Auto is enabled - something I usually don't have turned on. As I had already waited a year to get the car I wanted I wasn't about to reject the car because of this, but I think it's outrageous Toyota would charge nearly half a grand for such a useless feature. Not to sound too sour.. I do love my Highlander, and no car is perfect (though my LS430 was damn close) but nothing irritates me more than stupid design decisions or overpriced, underwhelming 'features'

Performance over noise? At the price point, I expect the vehicle to be quiet, not sound like a tuner. The V6 was so smooth and linear in it's power delivery, a requirement for the class.
@Realistick
@Realistick Год назад
It's still quiet, when I said noise in that context, I was referring to how the engine itself sounds. Its powerband and delivery help it feel a little less stressed in most situations compared to the old v6. The only real cost is that this engine needs to prove its reliability.

It isn't loud or sounds like a tuner. Not what he meant
@lorimcquinn3966

@@witchdoktor69 Drove one yesterday, felt it was loud and rough sounding on acceleration and unrefined compared to the V6 of which I've owned (2). Vehicle seriously needs extra insulation between passenger compartment and engine bay, something I'd expect for $40K plus.

I love your reviews! I purchased a 22 Toyota Highlander XLE AWD, the vehicle quality is bad , it has a lot of cheap plastic parts! I am not happy with it at all, I can't wait to trade it for something else, I am very disappointed with Toyota and the build quality of the vehicle, there are too many cosmetic issues with mind 😢
@witchdoktor69
@witchdoktor69 Год назад
The build quality isn't bad. You are just wanting more soft textures on the interior panels. Understandable, yet a big difference
@mariamcmahon8249
@mariamcmahon8249 Год назад
Not too thrilled with my 23 XLE. Poor gas mileage, poor visibility, what feels like plastic trim on the hood. Problems with connecting to the internet and continuously asking me to put in my pass code or change it. 2006 Highlander V6 was awesome. This one has a lot of bells and whistles but falls decidedly short of awesome. More along the lines of expensive and relatively okay. After driving it for 3 months I’m underwhelmed.

Looks too bulbous for a big car. Seems too goofy. I’d like it better if they’d gone with a sharper aesthetic like they did with the RAV4.
